Lovely place with great great food! When they give you the menu, you can choose a la carte or the brunch when you come in the morning. Then you can choose from 5 or 7 different little dishes like eggs, salads, tarts, granola, yogurt… the bread is awesome. I had the BEST chai latte of my life there! You should try it out :)

Café Alma has been for a long time a good option for dinner when going on business trips to Copenhagen and staying at the nearby Radisson hotel. This evening we had some clients joining us so we chose Alma as a safe bet for a casual dinner. BIG mistake. They had a new menu(not available in English and no assistance in translation provided) and I suspect new waitresses and cooks as well. Our drink order was forgotten so we received our starter before the drinks. I shared the«big board» with a client. If this was the big one, the small one must be really small. The others had soup and enjoyed it very much. Then we waited what felt as an eternity for the mains, without any offer for refills of drinks. When they finally arrived, the quality was shaky. My risotto was bad, drenched in white wine and overcooked. A client had cod and thought the sides were ok but the fish itself was poor. The other dishes(lamb, steak and mussles) got acceptance. The bill we had to pay at the bar as service was nowhere to be seen. A bad, sad experience. This used to be a good place but there are better places within walking distance so Alma will not see me in a while.

If you’re anything like me, and have been in the typical Copenhagen summer predicament where you’d sooner die than leave Islands Brygge before sundown, are totally burnt out on engangsgrill pølser, but are so hangry(the point at which extreme hunger makes you angry) you can hardly stand it anymore, call up Bagdøren and order yourself a cheeseburger and fries for take away. They make the fries fresh to order, you can grab a bottle of cold rosé or lemonade as you check out, and be back on the canal to soak up more Vitamin D in no time. They also serve a daily meal which is published on their website. I believe the shop shares a kitchen with Café Alma which is why I’m posting the update here and really still don’t understand the average reviews. I have only ever eaten the cheeseburger, but it’s still the best one in Copenhagen, IMHO.

Cozy basement café. I went there with a friend tonight, in order to grab some grub and a beer. We got seated quickly and was lead to a nice small table at the back of the café. Subsequently we however had to wait quite a while for a waitress to show up asking for what kinda beverages and food we would like. We both got the burger, and I must admit that it did bring me back down memory lane to the ‘deluxe’ — fast food burger in the city in which I grew up. The bun, the patty, the dressing all reminded me of this favorite hangover dish. The side, consisting of chipotle mayo and fries were good. No substitutes seems to be available for the side. Beer selection is subpar; I happened to ask for an IPA and they had none. What was on draft was Leffe and Carlsberg. I expect more in 2014. However! They do have Moules Frites, and I really do see the fries being just perfect along with some great mussels. I feel like going back, in order to get those.

An atmospheric and cosy basement café serving hearty Danish and international fare in the Islands Brygge area of Copenhagen. There’s a small bar area through the entrance, but most of the restaurant is down some further steps into the basement. Décor is fairly basic browns and creams with an eclectic mix of pictures and photographs on the walls. The food is fairly heavily meat based, with stews and burgers predominating, but they also do fish dishes(moules and fresh salmon seem popular) and can provide vegetarian options on request. Starters are around DK65−120 and main DK125 – 225. Portions are fairly hearty, so don’t over-order is you want room for dessert. They serve a range of beers, wines and soft drinks. Service is friendly and helpful. Booking is recommended in the evenings. Check out the website for their brunch and lunch menus.
