What a disappointment: the restaurant has changed from Spanish-style food to new Nordic which apparently doubles the price. Before you had a menu with wine pairing for a fraction of the current price. Additionally this used to be a good place for vegetarians while in the new style they serve vegetables as a main course — the meat is simply left out. We left the restaurant feeling we had overpaid for the food we were served, and still very hungry vegetarian in our group.

I recently ate lunch at WiP with a large group and felt very well taken care of. It was fairly quiet during our midday lunch reservation, and the waitress paid good attention to the group, making sure we were fully stocked on water, bread, and food. The restaurant is classy and cozy in a low-key way, and I especially like the basement — it’s large, but doesn’t feel too big because a lot of sections are divided by spaces or panels of windows — making it possible for several big groups to sit down there without feeling crowded.(They also have very nice bathrooms. Random, but a plus. I wish more places had bathrooms like WiP.) We shared several tapas, including shrimp with aioli, manchego with honey and walnuts, ham, chicken and mushroom croquettes, a small salad with almonds and sea salt, and a celery/smoked salmon/spring potato/salsa verde combination. They looked beautiful on the plate(croquettes with a pop of bright green on the top, the pink circles of salmon under potatos, crumples of dark red serrano), tasted fine, and the combination reminded me of being in Barcelona(a good feeling on a wintery day). I haven’t tried their mains but can recommend just getting tapas to share — we were more than full after lunch. Bonus: they accommodated dietary restrictions easily — the gluten-free bread was dark, crunchy, and delicious. A cup of coffee and a small piece of walnut-studded chocolate, and we were good to go! Work in Progress would make both a fine date-night place and a group outing.

Work in Progress certainly doesn’t seem like one. This restaurant is ready for prime time. The interior is pure Danish design with the clean lines, open kitchen with bar seats and the wide open doors during lunch which made it feel like we were outside even though it rained a bit. The downstairs is even more unique and you must check out the rest rooms. The food selection was a bit limited during lunch. There were lots of tapas or small plates to choose from, but only one Entrée-of-the-day. Being our first day in Copenhagen my friend Hugo D and I went for the entrée which was Chicken with fresh potatoes and vegetables. The plating was stunning! The chicken was excellent and the sauce deeply flavorful but light. Peter D’s Manchego cheese came with walnuts and honey. I’ll take his word that the Chicken Croquettes were delicious since he didn’t share LOL. Service was good. The restaurant was empty probably due to the odd 14:30 hour. Our waitress was nice enough go to the adjacent hotel’s front desk to get us free wifi information. If we had more time we would’ve come back and try dinner. Next trip!
