You take a hundred meter ferry ride out to the dock/island where the restaurant is located. Once there it is a free for all to get tables. The pizza is reasonable and the atmosphere is very chill. The pizza is very thin, and not something my NYC pizza tastes are used to. Either way you’ll go there for the cool things, and to have pizza not the other way around.

Great salads. Pizzas are very thin and crispy, how I like it. But salads are really great. Will definitely go again.

Great pizzas and salads. Really busy during lunch, so you might not be able to get a table if you arrive after 11.45.

Skiffer has definitely the best pizzas, or as they call them«liuskas», in Helsinki. It’s a perfect place for an easy, cozy dinner with friends. The pizzas are not the traditional type pizzas we can get from any corner pizzeria but innovative with surprising combinations. Also the lunch salads have best price-quality ratio in Helsinki.

First night in Helsinki and we went for pizza! Don’t worry, pizza here is not that traditional kind you would find in any restaurant, they are very specific and talented in what they have to offer. Menu in English, not a problem. But while my menu had one page, my friend’s menu in Finnish had 6 or 7(a lot of drink options I guess). I ordered the Soign(maybe it’s spelled wrong) pizza with goat cheese, nuts and strawberry, it was covered in basil which I liked a lot. My friend got one with sausage and that was covered in coriander(not my favorite). To drink I got a Long Drink, something very traditionally Finnish. Pizza is enormous, I don’t know how I could eat that. Flavors were great and very surprising, I wouldn’t normally order pizza with strawberries unless is a desert pizza covered in chocolate. Service was great, the girl even have me the whole explanation on the Long Drink story(designed during the Summer Olympics some time ago).

Excellent thin Italian pizza, with a proper pizza oven. Very social/pleasant service. Fully booked this evening, so book ahead if possible. Dined alone in the bar, but enjoyed several conversations. Good selection of beers. Free wi-fi.

Terrific casual pizza meal. Fun and young clientele. Service was prompt and polite. The local Stallhagen beer was a recommended treat. I had the cheese pizza with all the fixings. Delightful and relaxing experience.

Skiffer is definitely the place to go if you want a good and a little bit more inventive pizza than in all those god-awful kebab places all around Helsinki. It’s not perfect, but there are many positives to say about Skiffer; the décor is trendy and contemporary, the service is friendly(for the most part), the location of the restaurant is perfect — but the most important is of course the food! I’m impressed by their menu choices and ingredients, but I do wish they would pay more attention to the actual quality and seasonality of the food. I have been there twice in one year and the menu has stayed the same. I feel like they could really have fun with it since they only have 7 things(pizzas) on the menu… Or even make a special pizza every once and a while. Go with the seasons people! Also the pizza I had last time was pretty good in flavor, but it had clearly been sitting in the window for a while… that’s a shame. In any case I like the atmosphere and I absolutely love that they have Anchor Steam Beer(from San Francisco) in the beer selection, so I give Skiffer a four star rating. Ps. also try the Skiffer in Liuskaluoto for a more nautical and exotic experience!

This is the best thin crust pizza I’ve ever had… possibly the best pizza(though I tend to prefer thick, pan, deepdish pizzas). Not only that, it was reasonably cheap.

Skiffer fits nicely in the category of hip and trendy restaurants that focus on doing one thing and very well and not trying to be great in everything: here they focus on pizza… and let me tell you, their focus pays off and I can say I’ve had one of the tastiest pizzas in a long time. I arrived at Skiffer after doing some research here on Unilocal.I saw that it had a number of English reviews, which helped me understand it better, but it was also right next to my hotel(Klaus K) and so I decided to simply show up. It was just me, so I was hoping they had some kind of bar area where I could sit down and continue reading my intoxicating novel while sipping on a glass of wine and waiting for the food. And they did — yay! I’d read about the Fisherman’s Friend pizza and although I’m typically not the person that would opt for fish, I did go ahead and ordered it nevertheless. Truth be told, the different kinds of fish on one single pizza did worry me a little, but in the end I was amazed on how well they complemented each other; the poached egg and the shaved fennel were simply the icing of the cake! The reason why I’m not giving 5 stars is because of the service. I know, I know, I hear it all the time: Finnish service isn’t great, so don’t expect anything else. But I don’t know… I just don’t think the two waiters were attentive. I understand they had a lot of hungry customers to feed, but being a single customer, I would have enjoyed a little extra attention.(This is at least what I’ve been taught, when I learned how to be a good waiter back in the days…) In other words, I just didn’t feel like they cared about me as a customer. Nevertheless, the delicious pizza was a hit and in a way tamed me ;-)

Hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. We tried the duck confit and foie gras pizza and the Fisherman’s Friend(salmon, anchovies, roe, pickled fennel, and a poached egg), both were excellent. The service was also friendly and helpful and the location is charming.

When the days get shorter again and the first cold wind arrives at the coast of Helsinki Skiffer at Liuskasaari closes its summer terrace to open again in spring. This is not just sad because it is a sign that winter is close at hand but also because there is no place to get Liuska(their pizza) for several months. But the good news is that a new Skiffer opened in the center of Helsinki at Erottaja. Here you can now get all the amazing Liuskas you know from Luiskasaari and some more all winter through. And the team did their best to also give you some of the summer and sea atmosphere indoors at their new place. Skiffer Ravintola Erottaja is definitely worth a visit. Try for example the FG with duck liver, figs, duck filet and mustard seeds or Fishermen’s Friend with small fish, smoked salmon, fish roe and egg. Enjoy! It’s definitely the best pizza in town!
