If you can make a reservation it’s highly recommended because this place is popular for a reason. I happened to be in town for business and read about their healthy brunch. It also was Father’s Day in Finland but the staff were kind enough to let me sit at an empty table. Huge bowls of different salads, beets, potato, shredded veggies and lots of beverage choices, it was delicious and pleasant. Can’t wait to come here for dinner.

After SoiSoi(Soi Soi? Someone???) earlier this week, I didn’t think things could get much better in my life, food-wise. But I am starting to feel like someone I’ve wronged has cast a Fat Spell on me after strolling into Southpark yesterday and staying for brunch. For two hours. Eating the whole time. I hail from San Francisco, from SOMA(Twitterville, to those of you not familiar with South Beach), land of nouveau comfort food brunches that go all day with bottomless mimosas, terraces, and good times that never have to end. I have been brutally robbed of such good food and good times in Helsinki until… yes…yesterday…yes…when we stumbled into our very own backyard(yes — Southpark is in our backyard more or less) and enjoyed a long ass brunch in a very San Francisco setting, just inside the confines of Koff Park in the old Café Fanny space. Southpark excels in every aspect that Fanny blew… which means at like everything. The sleek but chill ambiance — cool but still accessible for people nursing hangovers and families alike. The food — classic buffet-style brunch you expect in Finland but NOT Finnish at all. AMERICAN. Like straight outta SF, yo! Reasonable prices. 19,50?! Whaaaat?! Hell yes. People working there who could be California transplants from Santa Cruz… omg I have died and gone to heaven. It’s like I’ve come home. It’s literally like Helsinki heard I wanted to move back to the US, decided they didn’t want to lose a taxpayer and future taxpayer(the kid), and plopped Southpark right next to my block of apartments so I wouldn’t leave. Did I mention that their regular menu features shit like fish tacos and their meats are organic and their produce is no less than Northern California fresh and vibrant and amazing? They also have booze. Like lots of it. Cocktails, wine, beer, belinis, champagne… you name it, I want it. Errr… I mean… the have it. I want to stop writing this review but there are just so many things I want you to know about how freaking out of this world Southpark is. So I’ll rely on free-flow thoughts and words: terrace, baby seats/high chairs, loads of seating, terrace, afternoon coffee, American comfort food, child-friendly, hangover-friendly, makkara grill outside during brunch with condiment bar included in the 19,50 brunch(that part deserved it’s own paragraph), covered terrace, out of this world salads and eggs(finall! GOODEGGS at a buffet!), perfect for vegetarians and carnivores, amazing desserts, nice people, nice vibes, I’m home! And exhausted. This review took the life out of me. I better roll out of bed and drag the kid and the husband next door for brunch again. Thank you Southpark for making Helsinki awesome.
