*AVOIDATALLCOSTS* This story was relayed to me by my wife, who is staying with my mom, step-dad and sister in Provence while I work in Paris(I’ve been coming down for the weekends to visit). My family was visiting Aix-en-Provence when they came across Café du Palais. My mother and step-dad both ordered the andouillette, a French sausage dish. Unfortunately, only one of them came over the course of the meal, which was fine because my mom and step-dad shared the one that did. It was when coffee was being ordered that the server realised that the sausage dish was missing. My family told the server that it was fine, and that they wished to cancel the dish. The server, however, said that he had to go to the back and talk to the manager. It was only after coffee was finished and my family was preparing to pay the bill did the sausage dish come out. Quite reasonably, my step-dad and wife told the server that they did not want to pay 16 euros for a dish that came out after the meal was finished. Enter the odious restaurant manager. When my wife came to the till to pay for the bill(minus the sausage dish), the manager refused to allow it. My step-dad came to check up on my wife, and the manager started berating both of them. He started pushing himself against my step-dad. My(pregnant) wife tried to step in between them in order to prevent things from getting worse. The servers tried to get involved to explain and diffuse the situation but the manager shooed them all off. He threatened to call the police, which my step-dad was fine with because, well, this guy was completely out of line. Finally, my wife proposed that we pay for only half of the sausage dish, and pack up the untouched meal. This was acceptable to the manager and we paid 80(rather than 88) euros and left. This was an absolute horrific experience for all involved, and could easily have ruined the day. Luckily, my wife and family were able to get over it and still enjoy the day in Aix, but when I heard about it I was absolutely fuming. No way would I have paid a cent for that dish. No way would I have allowed this connard from treating my pregnant wife and senior step dad like that. Perhaps it was better that I was not there, because I might of made things worse. If my reviews matter at all, I hope anyone who looks up this place on Unilocal picks any one of the many other restaurants in the square.

Have been twice(so far) to this little place on one of the market squares in Aix. They have quite an extensive menu for a brasserie, but we’ve stayed with the lunch fare of burgers, salads, and such, all of which have been very tasty. Great ambiance when you can sit outside in the square. The menu is a bit pricey, especially if you get something more than a burger, but then again, that’s the eating situation in Aix-en-Provence! In any event, this is a good lunch choice, and I suspect we’ll be regulars there!
