Mitch is a good restaurant in terms of food and selection options. The mediocre food is presented beautifully and the service is competent and spoke English. The ambiance is comfortable and polished. Most of the diners were not French when we were there and the place was packed. We were surprised by the unmistakable and annoying recurrent beeping from a microwave oven at the end of a timed cooking cycle. It left us wondering how much of our meal came from a microwave.

Retournez y vous me direz !

Il est nécessaire de réserver pour y manger, mais personnel très pro, plats très fins sans être avare sur les quantités. Pas fait pour toutes les bourses mais à recommander pour un petit dîner en amoureux

It’s hard to tell all the bistros apart when you walk down the pedestrian streets in Aix but this place is a cut above, offering really outstanding French fare. Nothing like your typical bistro; both the presentation and flavor of the food is nuanced and impressive. We had the most amazing steak special(an excellent cut of meat, cooked perfectly), a delicious fois gras starter(designed to look like a classic French dessert– a neat spin they put on all starters), and a fantastic pistachio-flour financier and cheeses for dessert. Truly amazing meal in all regards. Total price for two plus wine was about € 100. We made 945pm reservation an hour in advance but maybe got lucky. Highly highly recommended.

Best meal yet! Wanted to go yesterday but Mitch, the owner said they had to close early because the sous chef burned himself. So we turned up tonight and was so happy to get to experience this gem. I got the prix fixe for € 49 which includes a starter, entrée and dessert. The presentation of each dish is beautiful but the taste was superb! Mitch recommended a delicious apéritif but forgot to get the name. Tasted like a moscato… Highly recommend trying this fantastic place!!!

We were referred to the restaurant by a the owner of a touring service we used, and the meal was the best we had while we stayed in Aix. The service was attentive and helpful, the food was beautifully presented and the tastes were excellent. There is an amazing painting in the restaurant supposedly of Bob Marley, but looks very much like Mitch! According to him, he painted it. Whatever, the food was great and we recommend it highly.

Mitch is fabulous! The pork from a black pig is out of this world and the lemon dessert is to die for. We have been there twice and hope to find time to go again. No problem with English. Do not miss going to Mitch. He is a great guy, too.

Oh la la! We called at 8:45 pm on a Monday, and were lucky enough to get an outside table for 9:15. We were greeted with a gazpacho amuse as soon as we sat down. We wanted a light meal after a long, busy day, and our meal could not have been better. We opted for just entrées and a shared dessert. Each dish was prepared and presented beautifully, with tiny fabulous details like a carrot chip and beet purée on the plate. Just gorgeous, small plates with big, delicious flavors. Even my espresso was unusually tasty. Mitch was a gracious host, taking a bit of time to meet us and show a real interest. Service was attentive and not intrusive. Just a lovely experience from start to finish. BTW — one review said the restaurant was closed Mondays, but we ate there on a Monday.

We read the great reviews and followed a group to the restaurant. Definitely make reservations. We were lucky to get in after a little wait. The menu has several choices. I had scallops as an appetizer and steak for the main course. Much like the other reviewers this was one of the best meals I have ever had. There was great conversation between the tables and when we were the last people left Mitch sat and talked with us. Everything was fantastic including his own paintings on the wall. Dessert alone was worth the trip. Highly recommended

This is the best meal I’ve had in France after a month of traveling throughout the country. Honestly, it may be the best meal I’ve had in my life. My husband and I are staying in a flat next door to Mitch’s and we randomly stopped in tonight at 8 p.m. without a reservation. They had just opened the doors for dinner and we asked if we could have a table. Mitch said they were entirely booked for the night, but happened to have one table for two left. A couple, better dressed and much more elegant looking, followed us in and asked for a table and were turned away. Within half an hour, the restaurant was filled to the brim with people who were wise enough to make reservations! This was the first of many blessings tonight. The ambience of this intimate restaurant is so romantic. It’s beautifully lit with soft jazzy music playing in the background. The wait staff were generous enough to speak English to us after we struggled a bit with our French. Both our young waiter and Mitch spoke perfect English and were able to describe the menu and wines eloquently. After being seated, we were treated to complimentary soup appetizer shots(squash with truffle foam). From this moment, we knew couldn’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We each chose the prix fixe menu(there were 4 different combinations to choose from). I had the Foie Gras which sent endorphins rushing through my entire body. The filet de boeuf was one of the softest I’ve ever had. And the desert, a fresh pear and chocolate bomb was presented in such a surprising and charming way that I gasped with delight. I’ve never had such exquisitely plated and prepared food in my life. Please don’t miss an opportunity to eat at Mitch’s but to ensure your visit make a reservation.

Best meal I’ve had in some time. Mitch knows his stuff. It started with the amuse bouche which was so delicious, a crème of cauliflower velloutte that we both laughed out loud after tasting it. The pâté d’foie gras was just this side of stunning. I found myself cutting it into smaller and smaller pieces to make it last longer. I asked for wine flights to go with his prixe fixe menu. He pulled out a Provencial wine that I’m sure I’ll never see in Chicago. The desert was a chocolate bombe with candied pear inside, all warmed by a sweet malt. Joy.

=======English version======= Really a great restaurant in AIX. Good services, good food, even the price is a little bit higher than others, but it’s a really great restaurant you have to be if you are around AIX. Ps: the duck tartar is RAW! Lol

After many nights of good eating in France, the dinner at Mitch was among the best of the entire trip. First off, after our wine selection wasn’t available, Mitch recommended another one which turned out to be fabulous and smooth. He told us about the vineyard and the qualities of the wine. The three of us in my party ordered different meals. I tried a bit of everything: the shrimp was well cooked, the tartine was soft and flaky, and the mackerel on top flavorful, the steak was tender, juicy, and not too fatty. I had the roasted pork which was to die for. The meat was cooked perfectly and accompanied by two light sauces which complemented the pork well. The vegetables that accompanied were also cooked to perfection. Overall, both the food, the ambience, and the knowledge and generosity of the owner makes this restaurant worth going back to! Now if only I lived in Aix…

A gem in Aix, they are only open for dinner and closed on Mondays. We called to make a reservation and Mitch picked up on his cell and said«okay» and that was that. You will not easily get an outdoor table if you just show up. Call first. There are 3 tasting menus with differing prices. We went with the première and didn’t regret it. The foie gras 2 ways(start), steak especially the potatoes(main), and 3 way strawberry dessert were all delicious and unique. The crab salad was only okay — not much crab unfortunately. No complaints here. Waiters are also a riot. Shout out to Nicolas, without an h. :)

Another great place in Aix! Not as fancy as Le Formal but definitely great food and presentation. A must go back. An advance reservation could be helpful.

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! We stayed at Pavillion de la Torse in Aix-en-Provence this past May and they highly recommended this restaurant. It’s very small so our B&B hosts called and made reservations for us. The food was phenomenal. From the appetizers to dessert each plate was gorgeous and prepared perfectly. I wish I could remember exactly what I ate but I was in such a bliss coma the whole night(actually for the whole trip!) I just remember every bite was delicious. We ordered a nice bottle of Bordeaux with dinner and instead of a digestif after dinner we decided to just get another glass of wine. When we asked to look at the wine list to make our selection, Mitch himself came over and said that he had a very nice bottle of wine from his own personal collection that he had opened to share with some friends. He told us there was enough left in the bottle for two more glasses if we wanted to try that. Of course we did!!! First off the wine was a very generous pour! Secondly it was phenomenal! Thirdly, he didn’t even charge us for it! Truly a special experience in Provence! If you are traveling to France and are visiting Aix-en– Provence, go here. You won’t be dissapointed!

My favorite restaurant! I’ve lived in France for over 2 years now, I’ve tried over 30 restaurants, and this is by far the best I’ve found. Mitch is a sure bet. It’s a great place to bring visiting guests. They’ll love it! The menu is simple, a 3 course meal for 25, 35, or 45 €. Each dish looks beautiful and tastes amazing. And the menus change with the seasons. Every time we’ve gone, the service has been perfect, and Mitch himself is a great host.
