Located on the road between Bayeux and St. Lo, this is a curious… virtually unique combination of café and«Roadside Attraction.» It is not well marked from the highway and entering the gate you are still not sure what you have. But inside the atmosphere is designed to mimic 1950’s US diners. There is indoor seating, but the fun is outside where there are a series of covered areas(chalets) with tables, many with themes, such as carousel-type animals for children to sit on. Given the atmosphere, we had no idea what the food would be like. Our party ordered various burger combinations or the quiche & salad, which were daily specials. All of them came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The staff was very friendly and spoke enough English to be helpful for the hapless American visitors. The beer was cold and the prices reasonable. So, for«something completely different», that was open on a Sunday(!), give Chalet de la Frite a try! It was an unexpectedly fun experience!
