This was my first visit to Marseille. I’m comparing this hotel to hotels in the United States. The Mercure is in a great location in the Vieux-Port. It is next to a shopping mall and walking distance to lots of restaurants and stores around the port. The lobby is nice, clean, and welcoming. The staff at the desk was helpful. We got a room with two double beds. Everything about the room is small. The closet, bathroom, beds, and the space. All very small. I stayed in a hotel in NYC that was larger than this room. The bed was very uncomfortable. It was very firm. There was a top sheet and a sheet acting as a duvet cover for the comforter. I think I’ll bring my own sheet next time. The shower was very small, which made it difficult to keep water in the tub area. There was a half glass door, but I did not have room if I closed it. They did not have what we would call wash cloths, or face towels. Just bath and hand towels. They only gave you two of each. They have air conditioning, but it was not very effective. We had it at the lowest setting and the fan at the highest setting and it was still hot in the room. The hotel did have free wi-fi, which was nice. You have to signup and agree every six hours to use it. The breakfast buffet was the best part of this hotel. There were many many options. I’d come here just to eat the breakfast. Overall, the hotel was not too bad. However, I do not think I would stay here again just because the beds were so uncomfortable. I did not sleep well at all during my stay.
