Honestly, just average. Downgraded to 2* after a stellar [similar] dinner the next evening at Le Comptoir du Marche PROS: bread was fantastic with nice chew, waiter spoke perfect English if needed, bresoala carpaccio, duck demi glacé, beef in the beef stew(some of the most tender I’ve had), got a seat up front away from the«back room» they supposedly dump the tourists into. CONS: duck breast main fat not rendered enough, sliced way too thinly, green beans were slaughtered and I mean 2⁄3 completely overcooked. If you’re expecting fresh haricot vert, steer clear of these. These were stewed away, probably in a hotel pan and ladled out in too-large portions to ourselves and the other American tourists next to us. Pretty atrocious given the fantastic fresh beans available all over the country. Wait was nice to include both of the pastas with the beef stew though I wasn’t blown away by either. Small ravioli dough was too thick and the filling wasn’t really anything special(if you’ve ever had short rib agnolotti or a ravioli with phenomenal meat filling, this ain’t it), while the famous green gnocchi weren’t really soft enough for my liking though the flavor came through. From my view, not having patronized this spot in the past, it appears to be coasting by on its reputation happy to serve its food to worn tourists, though the place was probably filled with 1⁄3 French. Didn’t love any complete dish enough to return. To top it off, we weren’t greeted nicely on entering(even having made a reservation) or on exit, and our server could take or leave that we were there. Little touches make a difference. With the above said, it still offers an okay value but there are too many other noteworthy spots in Nice for us to return to this one. Disappointed.

I went back to my camera chip in October 2008 to pull out these my photos of the dinner I had with my companions because this local family restaurant is just so good and really worth going out of your way into the Old Town of Nice with the maze like paths that can get you lost, but this restaurant is a great find and I am glad I listened to the tour guide I read. This place is the best with every dish exceptional! A++++ You can do no wrong here. Local hidden spot. I got lost and had trouble finding someone to speak English to find this place. But keep asking and you will be rewarded for your troubles. Totally amazing! I still wonder how they made this beautiful platter called pan-bagnet stuffed veggies is that not oily at all. Yummy in my tummy for sure! Great family run restaurant atmosphere. They can recommend to you what you like to eat. The patrons told us they loved this place. Everyone is friendly here. The steak and cheese sauce I had with my dish was like melting in my mouth like I was in heaven. I still dream of this dish and restaurant from time to time. Maybe one day I can return to Nice, France again!

Food was great, and service was greater. What wasn’t great: throwing up for the next 24 hours. Wish it weren’t true, but I got extremely sick after dining here. I noticed a lot of locals ordering the dish of the day, which was osso bucco at the time, but I ordered the duck plate off the regular menu.

This is an excellent restaurant serving local gourmet dishes at reasonable prices. We had the octopus salad and onion/anchovies pizza for appetizers and the allouette sans tete for a main dish, they were spectacular. The chocolate mousse and cappuccino were a perfect ending. Cheers!

Although there was a line to get in, we got a seat after a 10 minute wait, which was lucky(make a reservation). The food is reasonably priced and good! Had the beef stew ravioli(massive) and the tomatoe mozzarella salad(good!) The service was really friendly and we aren’t french speaking people. I think if you’re polite, they’re polite, so it was a good experience, despite some of the other reviews!

Simple but well-executed recipes win the day. This was in the middle of the medieval old-town of Nice which in itself was a large maze of a thousand restaurants, bars, a sea of beautiful people and wonderful nightlife. This one restaurant though was a local favorite and was recommended by a local. Price was affordable for Nice. Downsides: even with a reservation, we still had to wait for a table. Very crowded.

We came here for a quick late night bite and we decided to duck in here. I ordered the french onion soup with a glass of white wine, and hubby had the stew. All were very tasty and delicious. It felt really nice to be in the middle of Nice with great servers and a family kind of feel to it. I would come back whenever I go back to Nice!

Randomly walked into this restaurant on a Wednesday night around 7. Seems like you need to make reservations, we walked in and it was pretty busy, but they tried to accommodate us anyways, the waiter looked around and seated us in about a minute. The waiter was very friendly, spoke good English, asked us if we needed any recommendations or help with the menu. We ate a bit earlier so had a light dinner, we ordered the fish soup, octopus & squid salad, side of green beans and the beef stew. All were delicious and reasonably priced. This place also does not accept credit cards so bring cash!

A great place. Friendly staff. I went for the special cannelloni of the day, my GF went for the Niçoise salad(cliché I know), but they were both quality choices. I recommend.

Had an excellent lunch for two today. This is a great choice for those going to the Monday brocante at Cours Saleya as a fair number of other recommended places are not open. The food was delicious, good value and the service unpretentious. It was clear there were several local regulars eating there today. Reminder: no credit cards. We split a lovely foie gras appetizer. I followed with the plat du jour of a filet of St. Pierre served on a bed of squid ink risotto which I really enjoyed. My wife had the gnocchi des blettes with pistou which was also quite good. The portions were so ample that we skipped desert because we were stuffed. A lovely meal for 40 euros including a 50CL pitcher of the house rosé which was quite drinkable. Only real complaint is that the chairs were rather uncomfortable. Another nice point about this place is that is is just a short walk from the Palais Lascaris(15 rue Droite) which is a worthwhile visit either before or after lunch.

This was our favourite meal in Nice by far! Delicious seafood and delightfully friendly service(a rarity in France) — we lucked out with the very last table for 2. This place is(rightfully!) very popular so I’d make a reservation. Very inexpensive for the quality of food as well. Highly recommend!

While wandering the maze of streets in Nice, we wanted something more substantial than pizza or a sandwich … a real sit down local place. We found it. Just a wonderful space manned by kind and helpful staff. We enjoyed veal stuffed vegetables and homemade foie gras that were a perfect starter course. We then enjoyed the beef ravioli and gilt head bream, just yummy! Prepared just perfectly and melted in our mouths. No room for dessert. yet a perfect afternoon.

I didn’t get the cozy, family-run feel from this place at all. It is very beautifully decorated, just trendier than I expected. It was easy to make a reservation, because the staff speak English, even though I did my best to muddle through with French. Everything on the menu sounds incredible, and I’m regretting not ordering the Nicoise platter to get a little bit of everything(but it looked like mostly farcis). There’s a section where you get sides with your main dish, for a great deal. The famous daube ravioli was generous, perfectly savory, and the meat was fall-apart tender. The swordfish, and the cuttlefish/calamari salad were both fresh, if not exactly my taste. The only drawbacks were that our server was quite huffy when we said we were sharing, and they don’t accept debit/credit cards.

Since I was wanting to eat some steak frites, my husband found this place on Unilocal. For a Thursday dinner around 8, it was pretty busy, but we managed to squeeze in a corner table which we didn’t mind. The cute garçons were friendly and spoke good English. It’s a family run business with mom, dad, and two sons all working there. The garçons were the sons. One of them had even traveled to the Bay Area and was familiar with the Marin area. I ordered the loin steak with peppercorn sauce and my husband ordered the loin steak with the anchovies, herbs, and olive oil. Both medium rare. It came with a side so we ordered fries and salad. The food came out pretty fast. The peppercorn sauce was like gravy(pretty thick consistency), but it was delicious. You can taste just enough pepper for a nice kick. The fries were the best that we could have ordered another. Portions were just right for me although it may be a little small for the men as it was about 5 oz. The anchovy one was pretty good too. It’s not loaded with anchovies so it’s bearable. Overall, great steak, fries and cute garçons. Highly recommend!

Too be honest, given a few bad foodie experiences in Nice I wasn’t quite sure whether Nice still had foodies gems to discover or if massive tourism had ruined the restaurant scene altogether. So I started looking for good places and stumbled over Acchiardo Joseph. Intrigued with the reviews and desperate for some good yet inexpensive food, I grabbed my mom by the arm and rushed to our rescue. Or so we thought. I was really — really! — primed to love this little place. I mean, it had so many of the qualities I love: It’s an absolutely lovely and cosy place, it’s a family business with pop and mom and the kids running the place together, the family is really friendly and welcoming, the line for seating is impressively long, and the reputation of the place is really good. Alas! As we started to chew our way through a bland Escalope Maison(my mom) and the grilled fish(I picked that, think it was mullet) with green beans, salad and green gnocchi in basil sauce, I started to question if I was in the right place. To be honest, the fish was so bland that I had to drown it in green and black olive tapenade to introduce some taste to the dish. My mom had the veal escalope, slightly better than my main dish, but made with rather poor quality ingredients. The green beans were overcooked and textureless, and the gnocchi with basil sauce was not very appetizing. I was really sad, to be honest. Luckily for me, I had pre-ordered the crème brûlée with pine nuts. OK, hands down one of the best crème brûlée’s I’ve ever had! — and I’ve had my share. So, I’m really hoping that the dinner incident was just an exception to the rule. Just my two pennies worth.

We came here the first night and it’s a nice, quaint little restaurant in an allyway. My wife ordered the Swordfish, I tried the Scorpion fish. Both were served with bones in it which is very disappointing, we didn’t see this anywhere else in France. If you’re serving a filet that has been cut, and prepared into such a nice and small portion, it would be nice to have that portion completely boneless. If the fish was served whole I might’ve understood. So that was our main disappointment. We also didn’t like how close the tables were to each other. I guess it’s because we just aren’t used to it but it is REALLY close here. Avoid house wine — meh. The one great thing is the waiters speak English and are friendly.
