Le Paris Est

Récemment refait à neuf. C est un bar d’angle qui est doté d’une belle terrasse maintenant.
Agréable pour boire son petit café le matin avant d’aller bosser ou en revenant du marché.

Ahhh, chez Arlindo’s (as the locals call it.) Ya, there are other bars in the ‘hood. But, if you know what’s best for you, you’ll hang at the right place — Le Paris Est. Arlindo’s is a no frills place. Don’t expect to get some fancy-​shmancy drinks or tasty nibbles. Here, you drink a bebe (a whisky in a small glass, with or without ice) or a chope (sp? — a Super Bock beer on tap). Sure, there’s other stuff, but unless you want the Portuguese mob looking at you weird, you’ll choose one of these drinks. The cool kids hang out at the end of the bar playing cards or dominos (except in the afternoons when the raucous domino playing is relegated to the back tables). Spend a ½ hour in the place and you’ll know who the cool kids are. Make friends with one of them and buy a round, and you’ll be on your way to always being sure someone has your back. You’ll know when you’ve hit the «big time» when Arlindo invites you into the back yard for a barbeque.
The food is minimalistic here — only lunch. Well, sometimes you’ll get peanuts (cacouettes) in the evening. I’ve been informed that Tuesday is the best day for lunch because Arlindo often has white fish on the menu. (Note that the bar is closed on Mondays.)
Ladies, this is not a place to go if you just want to chill out with your gal-​pals. Sometimes you can barely get in the door before being hounded by some toothless, drunk, smarmy, or stinky guy. The testosterone is overwhelming. Keep your defenses up, don’t accept drinks from guys you don’t know (unless you’ve joined in on a bet on the horses and win — as an aside, always pay up if you lose), and make friends with the bartender and Arlindo ASAP.
