Anticafé

My wife and I needed somewhere to rest our feet after two hours at the Louvre, and so we decided to give Anticafe a try. So glad we did, for a number for reasons:
1. As other reviewers noted, you don’t pay per drink or snack – you pay by the hour! So 5 euro per hour gets you unlimited drinks (which include coffee drinks) and snacks to eat, along with Wi-​Fi and charging station for your phone if you need a charge. The snacks are finger foods and aren’t ‘gourmet’ but they’re also unlimited, so eat to your heart’s content.
2. There’s also some board games, books, and outlets to work if you need to. (I wish I was still in college because this place would have been awesome to work out of!)
3. The barista spoke both French and English and the service there was great. He’s very perceptive and has drinks ready within minutes of you ordering.
4. The ambiance of the café is quiet and soothing. Not many people having loud conversations – rather, most of the people there tend to be either studying or reading quietly, so if you’re looking for a café to relax in then it’s a great place to be. The space gets relatively packed quickly and seats are a little hard to find (there’s a couple of communal tables) but if you can find a seat it’s a great way to kill an hour.
All in all, so glad we found this café, especially within walking distance of the Louvre. Just make sure you bus your own dishes in the drawers below the bar before you leave and give them a hand. The Americano I had here – truly French Americano, with only a bit of extra hot water to dilute – was smooth and tasty, and probably one of the best I’ve had in Paris. Worth a shot!

Le concept est génial, on paie à l’heure et non à la consommation: boisson et «grignotage» à volonté!! Ok pour 5 € de l’heure la bouffe est industriel, faut pas rêver non plus! Mais le cadre est super détendant, les gens sympas!!!

I was in Paris when this Café had just opened for business and became a regular customer for the 11 months I lived there. I loved the concept of you pay for the time instead of the quantity. and the fact that the drinks were actually delicious didn’t hurt either!
Looking at how far they have come in the past year is great to see and I wish I could go back! Our of the other locations the one near the Louvre is my favourite !

this place is cool. super cool. upon walking in, I proceeded to the barista for a latte, where he informed me about the concept of the place.
you pay by the hour, and all of the drinks and snacks are unlimited. wi-​Fi, books charging tables, everything is ready for you, you just pay as you stay. this is totally the perfect place to study, get some work done or have a meeting, I for one just dropped in thinking I was going to get a latte but was pleasantly surprised.
I stayed for about an hour and was able to taste all of the yummy treats and had three lattes (lol). all of the food and drinks were basic commercial stuff you can buy at the grocery store, but I still think that it’s a cool way to serve customers and a really cool option for people who want to sit down and get some work done.
i’m really glad I ran into this café and hope to see some of these pop up in LA!

The innovation with this coffee shop is a breath of fresh air. It’s kind of a coworking space so instead of paying for your food you pay for your time that you remain. This makes it not a super great place for tourists, but if you need a place to sit for an hour, it’s reasonably priced and the coffee is good.

Great place to get work done. This location is a tad small and was pretty full, but the atmosphere is great if you’re looking to be productive. Good coffee to order, and all the coffee and snacks are included in the price (when I went, it was 4eur for the first hour, and 3eur/​hour after that). Plenty of electrical outlets which was very nice.

Une simple regard suffit pour identifier la cible de cet AntiCafé: de jeunes étudiantes propriétaires de Macbook air.
Le café est bien rempli et pourtant je suis loin d’être convaincue par ce concept branché d’un café/​espace de co-​working. L’espace n’est pas optimisé, les meubles sont mal choisis, même si on perçoit l’intention de créer cocon chaleureux.
L’ambiance entre-​deux, qui cohabite dans une seule et même pièce, est perturbante. Ce n’est pas assez calme pour travailler efficacement, même équipé d’écouteurs. Ma voisine passera l’heure à chercher des images de chats. L’atmosphère est trop silencieuse et pesante pour une partie de cartes décomplexée. Une ambiance studieuse me direz-​vous, mais à l’inverse d’une bibliothèque ici il faut payer 4 euros de l’heure pour avoir le plaisir de «travailler».
Côté nourriture ça manqué cruellement de générosité. Un café décevant, des biscuits secs bas de gamme, quelques bâtonnets de concombres et carottes dans un tuperware au fond du frigo. Un pot de Nutella. Si on annonce «à volonté», on né peut pas tromper le client et né rajouter des fruits qu’au moment où l’assiette est vide.
On prends le client pour un pigeon et le client ce sont des jeunes étudiants ou globe trotteurs aux bourses légères. c’est malhonnête.
Allez plutôt au café Craft près du Canal saint Martin, même concept, meilleure réalisation.

I’ve wanted to go to a pay-​by-​the-​hour café for ages, and I finally stumbled onto one in the middle of Paris — and it was everything I had hoped it would be.
Great coffee (since when is there great coffee in Paris?), a whole host of snacks — cake, cookies, fruit, toast with jam or Nutella, fast wifi and lots of comfortable seating, all unlimited at only 4 Eur per hour.
It’s the perfect place if you are looking for somewhere to work or read. It’s NOT a great place to come to socialize with your friends — I was there with a friend and we felt the need to speak in hushed tones, as the atmosphere was definitely one of quiet concentration. It could also use with some music as it was a bit deathly quiet (so bring your own headphones).
This is such a great find right in the middle of Paris and such a lovely execution of a great concept. Very much recommended!

People are sweet. Bilingual, as well so if you’re an English speaking traveler looking for a laid back coffee house vibe. Head here.
This place also has the best cup of coffee I’ve had in Paris.

J’adore le concept de l’Anti-café: arriver, prendre une carte au comptoir, s’installer, faire comme chez soi, se bricoler un goûter sucré ou salé, boire ce que l’on veut et payer en partant pour le temps passé sur place.
L’endroit n’est pas très grand mais en propose pour tous les goûts, tant au niveau des places assises (deux grandes tables pour bosser à plusieurs, deux canapés pour se relaxer et une grande banquette pour un tête-​à-​tête), qu’au niveau des boissons ou de la nourriture.
Vous y trouverez des petits biscuits, baguette, pain de mie, des galettes de riz, du nutella, confitures, tzatziki, bâtonnets de légumes et même lait de soja (dans un frigo en libre accès). Niveau boisson c’est comme dans un café classique: latte, café crème, espresso, thé etc. à la seule différence que vous vous servez vous-​même, sauf pour les cafés qu’il faut demander.
Vous trouverez également des jeux de sociétés et quelques livres si jamais vous êtes en mal d’activités.
Attention par contre, le café n’est pas très grand et était toujours plein les deux fois où j’y suis allée, en semaine et l’après-midi. C’est donc un peu les chaises musicales à chaque fois pour bouger de place et en prendre une meilleure à chaque fois que quelqu’un s’en va.
Les points positifs: le concept est cool, c’est pas excessivement cher si vous consommez des boissons (4 € la première heure et 3 €/​heure ensuite) et on se sent à l’aise comme chez soi.
Les points négatifs: c’est vite bruyant (surtout si vous tombez sur un groupe venu jouer aux cartes), pas très clean (vu que chacun est censé débarrasser ses propres assiettes/​tasses) et les trucs à grignoter sont industriels (biscuits belvita, boudoirs, céréales choco pops…).

I really like this place! This is the newest location in addition to the Marais location.
You pay per hour, and you can get unlimited drinks like coffee and lattes, and different kinds of pastries. There’s free wifi too! The Anticafe is the closest thing to an American style coffee house in Paris.
The only downside to this amazing place is that it can get pretty crowded and people stay camped out for awhile. If there isn’t a place to sit, then there’s not really anything you can do.
Overall great vibes, I highly recommend it!

This place is so chill and relaxing, a perfect spot to just relax for a bit or do some work. You pay by the hour per person with access to unlimited snacks and drinks that they can either make for you (coffee, espresso, etc) or cold drinks or snacks in the fridge. If you are just looking for a place to spend a little bit of time to just wind down and relax, this is a good place to go to.

Un lieu idéal pour travailler ! A l’Anticafé, on né paie pas ses consommations, on paie au temps passé. Et avec boissons (chaudes et froides), grignotage et produits frais à volonté, Wifi, livres, jeux gratuits à disposition, autant dire qu’on rentabilise vite sa journée.
Le personnel est disponible et agréable, souvent très posé et accueillant. Par contre, le visiteur a intérêt à savoir où on met les pieds, car s’il né vient pas se renseigner au comptoir, personne né fera le tour de la salle pour l’informer du concept (affiché sur chaque table sous forme de fascicule, ceci dit). J’ai vu des touristes quitter les lieux en bougonnant, pestant de n’avoir même pas été accueillis par un serveur. Dommage pour eux comme pour le lieu, mais c’est le jeu !
Dans tous les cas, avec un tarif attractif et un principe simple et pratique, l’Anticafé, c’est à présent trois enseignes parisiennes (et une romaine) pour bosser en toute sérénité, ou se détendre à moindres frais. A condition que l’atmosphère un peu «hype» du lieu né vous rebute pas, bien sûr.

Awesome spot! You come in, get a card, and that card acts as a time stamp when you leave. 4 euros per hour, with all the free wi-​fi, little snacks (pretzels, chips, cookies) or drinks (coffee, hot chocolate) you want! Really cool for hanging out for a short while especially if you’re a little hungry. Great deal and a cool concept.
Tricky to find space, as it’s so popular, and carrying plates of snacks down the treacherous stairs to extra seating at the bottom level proved a little involved. I also wouldn’t pick it as a place to settle down and study, as I could pay 3 euros for a coffee and 4 hours elsewhere.

Nettement plus petit que son grand frère de la rue Quincampoix, l’Anti-Café du Louvre n’en est pas moins un fidèle représentant du concept: tarif à l’heure puis toutes les 10 minutes, tarif journée ou semaine et possibilité de réserver une table ou privatiser le lieu.
Grosso modo le même choix de boissons et grignotage sucré/​salé, à quelques exceptions près.
Le plus: les tables bien pratiques pour faire des réunions et se poser avec son PC
Le moins: on se sent vite à l’étroit, beaucoup de monde dans peu de m2, la pauvre serveuse qui était seule était débordée le soir où je suis passée.

It’s a pay by the hour type, very friendly café great for studying with comfortable sofas and nice tables. Perfect workplace quite but still warm, friendly staff.

The concept is really neat. Unlimited drinks and snacks at about $ 4/​hr per person? Awesome place to just chill. If you have kids they also have boardgames you can play

L’Anticafé du Louvre, soit le même concept que son grand frère de la rue Quincampoix mais dans un espace plus petit sans pour autant que sa perde de son charme.
Ici aussi des boissons chaudes (café, café allongé, caffe latte, latte macchiato caramel, cappuccino, chocolat chaud) préparées à la demande, du thé et infusions, des boissons fraîches (jus de fruit, sirops, citronnade, pamplonnade, lait, lait de soja, etc) en libre-​service, du petit snack (chips, cake, madeleines, biscuits, bretzels, galettes de riz et de mais, etc), des fruits, des légumes coupés, etc pour se restaurer.
Wifi, bibliothèque, ludothèque, imprimante, scanner, fauteuils moelleux, grandes tables sont présents ici aussi.
Et toujours le même tarif imbattable: 4 € la première heure et 0,50 € chaque dix minutes suivantes soit 3 € chaque heure suivante.
On avait déjà une foule de raison d’aimer le concept, avec cette deuxième adresse située dans un quartier central, on a encore plus de raisons d’y retourner.

While wondering about on the streets, I came by Anticafé, decided to enter, and had a great time! It reminded me of the Coffee Shop in my home university in the US because both places had the similar atmosphere — where you are comfortable sitting and working individually but also because of the presence of others. I have never been to a café that charges by how long you stay there, and you could drink and eat as much as you want — it was much more generously priced than any other place in Paris, so if you are a student like I am, I definitely recommend this place for a workplace or a hangout with friends. :)
Pendant faire une promenade, j’ai trouvé cet café. J’ai decidé à entrer parce que le règle dans cet café était très différent et intéressant. Dans Anticafé, on paie basé sur les nombres des heures on y reste. Par exemple, pour une heure j’ai payé 4 euros, et il n’y a pas une limite pour combien je bois ou je mange! C’était ma première fois quand je n’ai pas senti que j’ai été arraché dans un endroit à manger à Paris! Le boissons sont excellentes, et le café était calme généralement afin qu’on puisse travailler bien.
その辺ぶらぶらしていたら偶然見つけたカフェです。料金は滞在時間によって異なり（1時間4ユーロ、以後1時間3ユーロ、1ヶ月で200ユーロ等）、雰囲気もよさそうだったので入ってみました。他のカフェに行くと、ドリンク一つとお菓子を頼むだけで10ユーロ近くなり、ぼったくられた気分になっていました。それに比べ、ここは1時間4ユーロで食べ放題飲み放題と、余りに気前がよいので、なんだか申し訳ない気持ちになりました^^;でもお菓子もコーヒーもおいしかったです！何より「人との繋がりのきっかけとなる場所を提供する！」というテーマを掲げているおかげか、アットホームな雰囲気があり、居心地がよかったです。

This is the coffee shop Paris was missing. Good coffee is nice but it wasn’t the missing element, what was missing was a sense of community. The thought that you’re not just one peon passing by who the coffee shop owner would prefer leaves as soon as they come in to make way for a horde of anonymous customers.
This is a coffee shop designed around people, and it shows. The space is well designed and lit, you can feel the comfy as you come in – a rare treat in Paris.
Although it’s no obvious, as you come in you simply ask for a white card at the register and there’s no need to pay upfront. An unexpected token of trust. The cards themselves have lovely and varied designs (a detailed touch that foretells the rest of the experience).
You then find a place to sit down, although I have to admit this place is so nice there may come a time when this will be difficult.
Facing the outside is a self service bar where you can make tea, ask for a cup of coffee, get juice, lemonade, milk, snacks and other coffee shop staples. All of those, are free. The only thing you’ll pay for as you leave is the time you spent here. A brilliant little hack.
Now there are some things for sale like sandwiches, but buying them is up to you because you’re allowed to bring your own food. I think they’re designed to be ways for you to support the shop whenever you start craving a substantial bite but don’t want to leave the surrounding comfort.
For people like me who like to work from coffee shop once in a while to escape monotony, there’s a table by the counter where several people work on laptops. There are plugs available and apparently even a printer if you need it. The rest of the shop is a mix of large living room chairs, sofas, and smaller tables.
I didn’t scope out the bathroom situation but it should follow that nice bathrooms are available considering the concept.

Je né tarirai pas d’éloge sur le concept de l’Anticafé, qui consiste (entre autre) à facturer en heure plutôt qu’en conso’, ce qui, vous en conviendrez, paraît simple mais n’est pas idiot, non? La convivialité reste au rendez-​vous. Le petit frère de Beaubourg, situé près du Louvre, est moins «cosy» mais tout aussi agréable. J’ai passé un peu plus d’une heure à gribouiller sur mes nouveaux projets pendant que mon amoureux lisait, tranquillement installé dans un sofa. Le lieu est accueillant, meublé et décoré avec goût, le café délicieux, les collations (en libre accès), simples mais variées et en quantité suffisante. Je suis fan des boudoirs de Papy Brossard donc pas difficile à contenter ! En tout cas, riche idée d’ouvrir un deuxième lieu suite au succès du premier Anticafé, j’espère qu’il y en aura d’autres et pas seulement dans la capitale…
