Had an amazing lunch here. We had to wait about fifteen minutes for a table so they gave us each a free glass of wine to drink while we waited. Very reasonably priced authentic French food. Would recommend to all my friends a must stop for anyone visiting Paris.

Truly a Paris experience. We were the only tourists in there. Felt like we got a glimpse into the world of true Parisians. So the wife and I were wandering around the Bön Marche epicuree thing down the street and getting quite frustrated that almost none of the food was actually ready to be eaten on the spot. One of us(ahem, my wife) thought that it was a «food court» of sorts, but alas it is not really. We went upstairs to Le Table and looked at the menu but it was kinda fussy. So I whipped out the Unilocal machine and started looking for more traditional, down-home places in the area. Lucked upon Au Pied and made an executive decision that we were going to try it out. First of all this place is SMALL. So tiny. When we walked in we thought«oh boy, nowhere to sit» but the server motioned to two spots that were nestled right between two other dining parties. Our first instinct was«no way we’re going to squeeze in there» but we didn’t want to offend. The other diners saw us coming and actually moved the table to make it easier for us to squeeze in. That was not the last kind thing our neighbors did to make this lunch a raging success. No English menu folks. Best to look around and point at what looks good. I was furiously googling some of the items on the menu when our neighbor asked«Need help?» We nodded and he explained what he had and what else was available. We both decided on the daily special – beef loin with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes – and we shared a vegetable app topped with feta. They were both fabulous. It was straight up comfort food in a cozy, convivial environment. The waitress was a little salty and gave us some attitude but it was all in good fun. We finished with a slice of tarte tatin that was out of this world. Highly recommend this for other travelers. Really a fun lunch.

My wife and I had a very nice meal here this week. Probably my favorite part was the ambience. When you enter there is a small bar to your left and a very friendly manager type greets you. We came in late(~915p) on a Monday night and we were relieved when he called(with his voice, not a phone) upstairs to his waitress to let us know we were on our way up. It is a very small place, with a low roofed loft with a handful of additional tables. The bathroom is out a dark alley in the back and the artwork on the wall is an odd combo of movie posters. The waitress was at most pleasant; she was not outgoing in any way or inviting, but not rude at all. It felt like an authetic French restaurant experience we really enjoyed that. The prices are ridiculously cheap including alcohol. The meal felt a tad rushed but I suppose we did come in late; we were encouraged to order quickly, we received our appetizers maybe 3 min after we ordered and literally our dessert came maybe 30 seconds after we ordered them. A bit funny… The food was delicious. My wife wasn’t as wowed. Very traditional food. I got a cheese plate which was great and probably the best part of the meal was my wife’s fresh lentils with some sort delicious cream sauce. My main course was a sliced sausage(yum) and mashed potatoes. My wife had the beef which was good not great. Dessert was a big bowel of hazelnut sauce — would’ve been better on ice cream but it was very good — and my wife’s cake was great. Overall this was a great experience and I would gladly go back to try another dish. The price/value can’t be beat. Burgers were NOT on the dinner menu, but I would’ve loved to try them. Maybe lunch?

Probably one of the cheapest restaurants in the area. The food is good and service rather friendly and fast. The only thing is that they require for everyone to order a main dish. I was joining my friends for the starter since I had an other commitment afterwards, but I had to order instead a main dish to be allowed to seat. A bit weird I gotta say. So I went for the Unilocal acclaimed dish Chicken Liver and Mashed Potatoes. Wise choice. If you’re on a budget this place will meet your expectations, both in terms of food and spending.

I’ve used Unilocal very often since came to Europe for studying, but I never ever give a review of any other restaurants since I thought every restaurant I found in Unilocal is as good as it said. But I totally think this time ITISN’T. And I need to write my first review to tell you HOWRUDETHESTAFFIS. We arrived just right at our reservation time and there’s just one table occupied. There’s five of us and we need to wait for our friend for she’s maybe 5 mins late. Absolutely we thought we could wait at our reserved table but we are told to wait right at the bar without any chairs to sit down! And there obviously are many available tables. We immediately felt that this service is so strange even if it is a home restaurant. After 1 or 2 mins fortunately our friend came we can finally BETOLD to start sitting down. However, the worst service is not yet to come. A woman finished our ordering without any smiling on her face and we thought that well, maybe this woman just not in her good mood. But then we saw her smiling and talking with local customers at the other tables and we found that we are treated differently just because we are NOTFRANCH. And during the whole meal she is not in good manners and the worst thing is that we get an apple pie with pieces CRASHEDOFF which is totally DIFFERENT from the table besides. From what we can see the pie at the other table is intact and looks good. What a ‘surprise’! And the RUDEST thing is that this woman not only serve us with bad manners but she told us(rudely) to leave the table 10mins after we just finished out meal!!! And when we were busily counting our money she said it TWICE with her rude tone of speaking to tell us to leave. ITISNOTFRANCHSERVICEITISRUBBISHSERVICE! Every one of us got so angry and swear that it would be the last time we ate in this restaurant. The food is okay but it doesn’t worth to bear this rubbish service just for this level of food. It is NOTFOREIGNERSFRIENDLY and I would say that French do not serve like this because none of us(esp our two friends staying in Paris for a while) has ever been through this kind of service from hell before. You can definitely go with another choice of restaurant in Paris with better manners.

I can see from the other reviews here that they don’t need my praise to get business. This is a really fun authentic place, the real deal. I saw somewhere a review from someone who thought that the service was rude. It’s not. It’s French. It’s direct and without warmth, but fantastically so. She knew how to serve, how to get you a good meal, and how to manage the restaurant. It was pretty hilarious being crammed into these small tables next to the other people. I think my kitchen table is more spacious! But we had great food. I had the guinea fowl, which was soooo tasty. It all tasted very honest, very authentic and was cheap! I loved it.

Just had dinner at this very sweet, genuine place in Paris. Very local, very homey and not fancy at all! Friendly service, good food and a nice respite from the fancy top Paris restaurants. You will not find this on Chowhound or Paris by Mouth. It was close to our hotel and a rainy night in May. We both got steak and mashed potatoes, a salad and a wonderful dessert. Not another American in sight! The very essence of a good Paris vacation.

Super authentic and cute French spot. The lady who served us was straight out of a movie(in a good way). Foods are simple, but really tasty. Had the chicken liver, meat of the day, and the special confit pork. Dessert of turnover apple tarte with espresso was amazing. Was the perfect way to start our trip in France!

I admit I don’t eat enough French cuisine while i’m in Paris. Why? Well they good stuff is expensive, and the brasserie stuff generally arent good. Also, I’m Asian, I like my ethnic food. But Au Pie de Fouet — wow. This is the real stuff. As soon as you walk in, you already feel like you’re outside of the hustle and bustle of the touristy Paris and you’ve been transported to the country-side where real good french food is served with real good ingredients. The inside is extremely charming — we were seated upstairs after squeezing through a tiny tiny spiral staircase into a low ceiling 2nd floor of a loft. We got in at 9 and most of the mains were sold out, but even then we had amazing food. — rilettes oie(5EUR): potted goose as an appetiser was shared between my bf and i — pork chop with curried lentil(12.50): the curried lentil was soooo good and the pork is tenderly cooked — fish of the day with cream sauce(11.90): I dont know the english name to the fish nor can i remember the name in french, but it was really good despite it having small bones throughout. — crème brûlée tarte(4): a little dry and not sweet enough, but my bf liked it enough — half bottle of wine of the month(11): really good and i was sufficiently drunk at the end The total was 44EUR — not expensive at all for the amazing food here. I’m going to be taking all my friends here!

What a great spot! Small and intimate. Went here while in Paris for our honeymoon. On a Thursday night around 8:30 we were quickly seated at a table for 4. As it got crowded later, a single diner was seated with us who said she has eaten there for 10 years. Our waitress spoke English and deftly helped us navigate the menu. She made wine pairing suggestions which were great. My wife started with the vegetable soup of the day and the white fish with mushroom sauce and rice. I tried chicken gizzards for the first time as part of the sautéed gizzard salad and had the duck leg confit for my meal. Both of us loved our meals. We had a cheese plate to allow me to finish my wine with additional food. Then we moved onto a chocolate tiramisu and lemon pie for dessert both of which were great. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was super friendly and buzzing with closely packed tables. The manager at the bar was very friendly as we paid our tab. Their credit card machine was broken that night and we overheard him letting another group come back the next day with cash because they only had plastic. The whole meal for two including 50cl red wine, one glass white, 1.5L mineral water, cheese plate, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, and a small coffee for 70E. Fantastic! Definitely will recommended to the next people I meet visiting Paris. Everything we ate was wonderful.

Every meal in France included bread, wine, and cheese. So we had a LOT of cheese during our 9 days there. However, the cheese plate here was the most memorable of them all — if you like ripe cheese that is deeply flavorful but not overwhelmingly stinky, you’ll find it here. Chicken liver was super rich, no surprises there. The duck confit was simple, satisfying — what you would expect from a nondescript little restaurant in Paris. The meal was a little short on vegetables though, so I do wish the dish came with more than just mashed potatoes. Something green to cut through all the grease. We also ended up getting 2 desserts — a blueberry pie tart thing, and a light, almost ricotta like«cheesecake» that was more like whipped cream with berry sauce. Quite good.

This was my favorite restaurant to visit. It does feel like you are eating in someone’s home as it is all right there around you and for me that’s what I enjoy most. I got there at 7 since I didn’t have a reservation and they were more than happy to accommodate me. I had the appetizer cheese and that was by itself like a main course. And the cheese was excellent as was the bread. I still can’t believe it was that cheap. And my only mistake was thinking the Bordeaux was a half bottle when I looked at the price. The bottle comes out uncorked already and low and behold its a full bottle. Made for a good time. I had the duck confit for the main and a chocolate tart for desert. All great as hoped. Hope anyone else that tries will enjoy the same rustic experience.

A little place with a lot of charm. After reading a few great reviews, we decided try this place after visiting Notre Dame. Unlike most restaurants, there isn’t any outdoor seating. It’s seems like a family run business and a pretty small 2-story hole in the wall. It can probably sit 8 on the first floor and for larger crowds, 22 above. Be careful of the narrow and steep stairs going up. And if you’re at least 6 feet tall, you’d have to bend over trying not I hit your head on the lighting and/or ceiling. The food is unpretentious and simple. The prices are really affordable. They have 9 – 10 appetizers(entreés) and a daily special. Tonight, we had the caviar d’ aubergene — eggplant sautéed to look like caviar topping baguette toasts, rillette of goose, and a green salad with gizzard confit. The apps were delicious. The gizzards were very tender. For the main courses(le plats), we had white fish with an anchovy white sauce(special), duck confit, and chef’s choice of beef. The fish was tender and flaky with a pleasant tasting sauce. The duck confit was not as tender as some other places, but the skin was very crispy, and the beef was a grilled flank cooked to perfection. The duck and beef came with their signature mashed potatoes, which was buttery and smooth. We ended the evening with crème caramel(like flan but not as sweet), apple tart with crème fraîche, and chestnut purée. The staff is pleasant and nice. Since we had a little baby, they were accommodating. The table red wine is decent and perfect for drinking with these down to earth home cooking.

I am actually salivating as I start to write this review, because the food was That Good. Has that ever happened to you? I don’t think I could have planned a better place to have my final dinner in Paris(sob). Went with a party of 6 and so my group got to sample many dishes. For appetizers, both the pâté de campagne and the potato/egg salad were highly regarded. For dinners, the chicken livers, duck confit, bavette, and special of the day codfish with tapenade all got a huge thumps up. I got the steak(bavette), and the mashed potatoes that accompanied it were supremely buttery and delectable. At dessert, the tarte tatin, bread pudding with custard cream, and special chocolate ganache all blew my mind. The service was beyond reproach – thou the waitress was slammed, she was quick with everything including refills for free stuff like breads and water. And did I mention the prices? Even with everyone getting main plates, most of us getting apps, desserts, and at least one beverage, we came out owing less than 20 Euro per person average – a steal. Seriously, go – and get as many people to go with you as possible(ok, up to 8 or so, the dining area is tiny) so you can try it all.

Suprenamment… correct.

Utterly floored by the quality of service and food for the price, I wish I could stay in Paris for longer just so that I can go to this restaurant enough that I can say that I frequented the establishment. How many times is that anyway: three times in one week? Sure, that sounds reasonable. When we first approached the restaurant, we were hurriedly directed to the second floor as the first did not have enough seats for four during the lunch rush. But when they realized that my dad was in a wheelchair, they asked two gentlemen to please move upstairs so that my dad would not have to climb the stairs. Our waitress replaced the used placemats quickly, and we were handed one-page menus. A lady at the next table spoke fluent English and French, and our server asked her to tell us in English that they were out of the scallops special for the day, but that they would serve sea bass with a cream sauce in its place. That didn’t sound too shabby to us. The nice lady at the next table continued to make conversation with us and explained that the restaurant’s name means«The Foot of the Whip», which is what was rested in a special holder at the restaurant back in the 18th century by carriage drivers to indicate that they are not serving customers and instead are taking their lunch break. This restaurant has been around for 150 years: no wonder they know what they are doing! So we ordered one of the special starters(pork cheek salad), one of each of the plats du jour(beef tongue for 10.90 Euro, veal for 10.90 Euro, and sea bass for 12.90 Euro), duck confit(12.50 Euro), and a 50 cL bottle of rose wine(11 Euro). Our wine arrived first, at which point our server asked us to wait before drinking: she then brought us each a glass of complimentary apertif that we proceeded to consume jovially.(I think my mom may have gotten drunk off of that one glass. In her defense, it tasted quite a bit stronger than the rose wine, and she’s not a big drinker.) While I sat elbow to elbow with a gentleman at another table, we thoroughly enjoyed each of the dishes and traded them around the table. The beef tongue was the best prepared version of itself I’ve ever had: not tough at all. The veal came with a nice sauce and a delicious zucchini soufflé, and the duck was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Even my brother, who does not like to eat mashed potatoes in the States, loved every bite of that fluffy white side dish. We wanted to order another iteration of everything we had already eaten. Instead, we practiced restraint and ordered two desserts instead: chestnut cream(3.50 Euro) and bread pudding(3 Euro). Wow, the chestnut cream was so rich and made my mom very happy as she loves Mont Blancs like no other. She and Dad even took pieces of baguette and dipped it in the chestnut cream. The bread pudding was nice, too, but not necessarily the best I’ve ever had. The verdict: Go here(or its other two locations) to enjoy some gourmet French cooking at a bargain price. If you want to see the original location for yourself, come to the one in the 7ème arr.

I’ve been living an hour late. You see as reliant as I am on technology, when my iPhone(God of all things right, decent and punctual in my world) didn’t change itself from London time to Paris time, I believed it. I ignored clocks and computers and trusted the iPhone as one does… However I couldn’t ignore the annoyed, yet honourably polite service upon strolling into this fabulous gingham gem at what I believed to be 10pm, I couldn’t ignore the rushed server standing above me as I looked over the menu, I couldn’t ignore the speed at which the food flew out of the kitchen and was shortly then cleared again from my table, and how after a mere 45 minute converstation, lights were being turned off all over the restuarant. I mean, it’s only 11pm, right? No Laura, it’s midnight you unobservant bother of a person. Looking back now at not only how delicious the food was, how beautiful and quaint the ambiance was, how cheap the prices were… but how curtious the staff were under the circumstances, this is a 5 star establishment all the way.
