Collin is a great bartender and is a great guy. A must visit while in Paris for a cocktail or two… Hell three or four at times.

A sublime cocktail at a remarkable price. Colin Field and crew are the finest in the land and if you find joy in seeking and imbibing the perfect martini(and i mean perfect in the most exact expression of the word) you will be justly rewarded here. It is cocktail nirvana. Hurry though, Colin says they are closing for 2+ years for an extensive hotel remodel. I will truly miss it. I will never forget the nights chatting about drink, observing the techniques, conversing with new found friends, and running up absurdly ridiculous bar tabs. Best of all you can observe the very best and very worst of America tourists — from thoughtful travellers discovering the wonders of paris to the and bald and obese Midwest flooring distributor(aka proud job creator, yessiree) and trophy wife complaining they can’t find a good T-bone. Yeah, also a good place to start a bar fight. Ok, stick to chatting p the staff and the locals. Hurry up with the remodel… I miss you already!

I hate change. But I am adaptable. Bar Hemingway has changed, but thankfully it’s been subtle. This is the kind of high end lounge that for certain will still be here when our great grandchildren are walking the streets of Paris texting away and ignoring their parents on their newly released iPhone 50032s. The bar is small, quiet, classy and the best part — — wait for it — — -NO TEXTINGALLOWED. In fact, just keep leave your cellphone in your room. This place is for quiet casual conversation after a long day of work, or entertaining friends. If your plan is to check in on Unilocal,I highly suggest you do it from the street. But a word of caution — – watch those data charges. Darn you AT&T!

I guess everyone should experience a cocktail from the Bar Hemingway at least once in their life, but it’s pretty disgusting that they charge 30 Euro for a cocktail. When you convert to USD, that’s a $ 40 cocktail(usually my maximum allowable bar tab for an evening). While that usually includes a lovely fresh rose for the ladies and some munchy things to chomp on, I’m not sure that the price justifies the experience. Colin and Roman are super cool guys though. Then again I live in San Francisco where an inventive cocktail is available on practically every corner. However, I think there are better ways to spend $ 40 while you’re in Paris. This isn’t even a 5 star hotel anymore!

The mixed drinks and appetizers were absolutely amazing! The bartender described my pear martini in such detail that it made me crave it even more! He also put fresh roses in all of my drinks! I love the fact that it was located in the Ritz Carlton in Paris. Beautiful!!!

Romantic & Delicious this is the perfect place for an apertiv & cuddling up to your special someone! We went after dinner for a nightcap, sank into one of their comfy chairs & had a bottle of wine. It’s quietly tucked away at the end of the hallway at the luxurious Ritz Hotel Paris. –Maria Taylor«What’s New In NewYork»

Happiness!!! Oh, should I say more? Bar Hemingway is my liquor-ravaged liver’s favorite place in the world! Thankfully I only Christmas in Paris, rather than live there, or my love for the place would have transformed into a hepatic condition by now :) Part of drinking in Paris is getting to know the history of the bar scene. Hemingway is lovely, but you should also be sure to visit bars like Harry’s or the bar at Scribe. Read up on contributions by barmen like Franke Meier and Harry MacElhone. Drink the classics, but also hit the new places like Curio Parlor and Le Fumoir. This is good training for Hemingway. The bartenders at Hemingway are among the most charming in the world. Ladies are especially well attended to at the bar(as a token of the past, they receive a flower with each cocktail). Colin, the head bartender, is a crowd favorite, but he has trained an excellent staff and their personalities come through in their drinks. Given Hemingway’s connection to the bar and the fact that the head barman is British, one might think that Bar Hemingway would be a gin-centric establishment. While the excel at gin-based drinks, I encourage you to see what they can do with bourbon and whiskey(ooh, order a «Whiskey Cobra»!). My advice at Hemingway: eat a big meal before you go and then steady as she goes. The barmen at Hemingway make serious drinks and if you just knock them back quickly, you could quickly become a three-drink wonder. Speaking of three drinks, if you’ve never been, order their famous trinity as an introduction: Serendipity, French 75 and Raspberry Martini. Mix things up with some of their lovely aged cognacs and armagnacs. Given my love for the bar, you must excuse my shock when I look at a few of the 1– and 2-star reviews on Unilocal. You’ll note that most of them complain about the prices. It’s the Ritz Paris! One cannot get a 15 Euro cocktail at an airport Holiday Inn in Paris, and yet they’re shocked by the price tag at Bar Hemingway? Those reviews sound like the work of my obnoxious fellow countrymen who want perfection but don’t want to pay for it. I suggest they stick to the«fine» establishments in the 18th or the 19th. As for the rest of you, get yourself to Hemingway and have a lovely evening! Given that it’s only June, I’ll just have to be jealous of you for a few months.

All about expectations management. Yes, 30EUR for a cocktail is insane, but you are in one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the world(and likely on vacation… this isn’t going to be most people’s local). Don’t go if you can’t wrap your mind around dropping that money for one drink. Or, as someone else suggested duck your head in, check it out and leave without spending a dime. No shame in that. Service was pitch perfect, our server moved us to more comfortable seats the minute another table left and refilled our complimentary bites in a timely and unassuming manner. The two cocktails I had were exceptional(Jeff 1 and Hellraiser) and even if the place is blatantly capitalizing on a past age, that’s fine by me. Even if you lose yourself for a couple minutes thinking about what the tiny bar would have been like in the 1930s(or filled in occupied Paris in the 40s) or thereafter, that’s well worth the price of admission.

The«Hemingway» Bar is tucked away in a corner of the Ritz Hotel right next to an exit(or entrance depending on your viewpoint). With all the hype surrounding this bar, — I expected more… After all, there is another bar in the same hotel(Bar Vendome) with more of a menu, better and more spacious seating and for 30 Euros per drink, quite frankly, the place lacks atmosphere. I was very surprised at all the 5-star Unilocal reviews… Apparently, the fact that Hemingway frequented this spot makes it worth the accolades? Methinks not! Take a look to satisfy your curiosity but then head up to the«real» bar which is in the same hotel! A lot more room, the same drinks and you can actually get some food there.

If your looking for reviews for bar Hemingway you probably already made the decision to go. Dont let the nay sayers discourage you with the pain of paying 30 Euros for perfection. 2 for one Jäger shots, you will not find. What you will find is greatness beyond all possibility of calculation. The perfect Martini. You will not be disappointed.

Ernest would be rolling in his grave if he could see the place now. I honestly doubt Mr. Hemingway would be happy to know that his Paris namesake is now a cheesy bar plastered with photocopied pictures of himself(in case you didn’t get the hint that it was named after the writer – they make it tres obvious), that charged 30 Euros for average cocktails made with well liquors, and had a full supply of garish, technicolor hookers from eastern Europe fawning over fat Russian businessmen and snooty service and a completely unwelcoming vibe. Hemingway(or Scott, for that matter) would never show his face in this depressing, obscenely expensive, Disneyfied lame excuse for a bar. If you do go, get out your wallet and be prepared to bend over. NB. Just because you aren’t staying at the Ritz doesn’t mean you can’t walk through it! You don’t need the«excuse» of buying a drink at Bar Hemingway to let you wander through it’s main floor passages.

Incredible little bar in a beautiful location. I recommend walking to it from the front of the Ritz not the back. It is quite a few extra steps, but the walk is worth it. Trust me. The presentation of the drinks is unbeatable and the quality is the best that I have had in Paris, which isn’t saying much, I found it is hard to find a good, proper cocktail in Paris. The description of the Platium Bullet Martini is worth four stars alone, but doesn’t make the fifth because they don’t really have top shelf spirits. At 30 Euros you would think they would have Old Raj. Settle for Beefeater and drink five of them.

As much as I found the bar to be charming and the cocktail outstanding, I’m not sure I can in good conscience give a full five stars to a bar that charges 30 Euros for one cocktail. That said, if you’re visiting Paris and you haven’t blown your vacation spending money on chocolate and fois gras, then I say«bien sur» you should go for a drink at Bar Hemingway. At least once. Because the 30 Euros not only entitles you to an artfully crafted cocktail(I had a perfectly prepared French 75), but also the chance to walk through the Paris Ritz which, on our visit, was gorgeously decked out for the Christmas holiday. Go ahead… pretend you’re a guest there. And when you get to the tiny bar, imagine meeting Ernest for a drinkie and what the conversation might be. You’re largely paying for experience here, and so long as you know that going in, I say that’s OK.

It was an accident, a VERY expensive accident, that we stopped in here for drinks. Oh, it was on the list of places to visit but not the night we stopped. In the end it was the appropriate place to get pissed… at an absurd cost. This place oozes cool and makes you feel cool. This is the place VEGAS is modeled after. The décor is cool, the employees are cool, the drinks are STIFF(thank god) and the prices are high(30 Euro/mix drink &22 Euro for Gin&Tonic). A drink at the Bar Hemingway, never mind several, is a real treat. TIP: Check out the bathroom sinks. Water flows from a gold birds beak… I felt like I was in Vegas not Paris.

Yes. The décor was amazing. Yes. The barman made me an actual ‘Perfect Manhattan’ Yes. The service was incredible. Yes. The history seeped into my veins as I sat and sipped. The only catch: The products used were the same caliber you can find in any bar in Paris. Maker’s Mark, Martini Rosso and angostura bitters for 30 euros? A Sazerac made without Peychaud bitters??? If you decide to go, go for a special occasion and have a drink. To enjoy the décor and the wonderful service. I, however, will not be going back unless someone else is picking up the bill.

Ducted away in the very, very back of the Ritz Hotel. It should be on your list, if you’re going to do it, go all out and spend the $ 30 Euros, you’ll have a story to tell.

This place can’t help but be classy. I finally dropped in while in paris for a day last month. The night was young, the bar was packed and smooth music flowed into my ears. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior(like stepping back in time). The bro and i managed to grab sofa spots a couple minutes into the visit. The atmosphere is semi-intimate and I’d recommend going w/friends. From pictures, it seems to have the modern-versaille ambiance of any other french bar/restaurant, but the interior is über-inspiring… one of those places that can’t help but be cool as hell. Make sure to check out the bar opposite the main parlor as well. From the beautiful cocktail garnishes to water w/cucumbers, the service is prompt and rocks. Expect to leave very trashed! But also expect to pay high-dollar($ 35 – 50 per drink) for a very complex concoction. The experience is worthwhile.
