Stopped by this place with several friends for a glass of wine. The waiter approached and quickly asked us what do we want. We asked for a menu, he ignored the request and asked if we want beer or wine. We went for white wine and rose, the big glass as there were options for a regular and a big. He was in a rush to get our order. We received our glasses of wine, which did not seem any bigger at all from a normal pour, maybe a tad bit more. No one like their wine, it tasted bland and old. Much to our surprise when the bill came we had been charged 20 Euro for each glass of wine. When we asked for clarification it was explained that we had received the more expensive wine and that is all they had-they don’t have a house white and rose. Having lived in Europe for 3 years now and knowing wine quite well this was a huge disappointment.

My fiancé and I were staying in a nearby hotel and needed a late dinner after we arrived in Paris. This place was my first exposure to French cuisine. The waiter was very helpful and had great suggestions. I had fried duck and he had beef. I loved both meals. It wasn’t cheap but it was delicious. We shared a bottle of Crozes-Hermitage. I was very happy with the meal. The waiter was pleasant, friendly and even gave us directions to a wine shop around the corner. As a side note, I feel like he was so pleasant and helpful because we did our best to speak French and we didn’t expect it to be like it is in the states. We don’t speak French but we learned some and we made an effort. I think the effort went a long way.

Well it won’t be the last time I’ll be embarrassed by my fellow Americans(review below). A couple notes: 1. The menus are usually outside of all Parisian restaurants. You could have found out very easily, that this place is VERY expensive, as I did. 2. You should have asked for a bottle of tap water. You didn’t bother to learn the language or the culture here, so big surprise you got taken for the dumb mug that you are. Good. You deserved it. Anyway, for people who are civilized, this is a great little café to just sit or to do some work. Conveniently near the Madeleine. Pricey — so maybe just get a café(not a café crème, similar to a latte, just a café — which is an espresso shot). At 3 euros it’s mid-range in Paris(locals tend to pay 2 euros at the places near our homes).
