Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, friendly, accommodating service. Will be back when we return to Paris!

A small place on a side street near Le Moulin Rouge. These folks are extremely helpful and accommodating. I went with a large group and nearly took over the entire place. Even so, each of us were treated to individualized service and all the food arrived at the same time. The mussels, escargot, soup, and baked cheese appetizers got the most praise. My lamb shank was perfectly flavored. Those who ordered scallops got a nice surprise. Because the scallops were smaller than typical, the restaurant reduced the price. I will dine here again on my next visit.

This was my favorite restaurant while visiting Paris. The food has amazing flavor. The mussels were phenomenal, a great flavored broth. I had the scallops and leeks and never knew leeks could taste so good. I also tried the beef bourguignon which was tender and full of flavor. The wait staff were very friendly and did not mind we didn’t speak French. As everyone has stated, make sure you make a reservation as the restaurant is small.

On my last night of a week long stay in Paris I was anxious to try a place for dinner on a high note. This wonderful restaurant exceeded my expectations. The host was the epitome of great service. Even as the evening diners increased, he never lost his gracious demeanor. I had the Saumon with Parmesan cheese sauce. Simply divine! My finale was the Crème Brûlée, equally as wonderful as the entrée. This cozy and friendly place is definitely on my future list of favorites places to dine at in Paris.

If you’re using Unilocal in France you might be a tourist. That’s ok, because I was too. Now, I love Unilocal in the mainland States — it’s used a lot there, and the locals post reviews with their Critical Thinking hats on, and almost always it’s steered me straight. Then one day in Puerto Rico, my husband and I realized what tends to happen when Unilocal’s user base is 90% people who just got off a cruise ship from Florida and the local base is nonexistent. You eat some really overhyped Mofungo. So straight dope — I’m a tourist in France and you might be too. What do I know about French cuisine? Dare I make a claim such as «not a tourist trap» or «locals eat here»? I THINK these two things are true. And I can tell you, I am an expert with a PhD if PhD stands for«Phabulously Delicious,» which it does in this context. Chez Toinette is small, and a lot of spots in Montmartre are. It seems to be run by two, possibly three people. Dinner takes a long time. You realize that’s ok. You’re there to enjoy a bevy of food with the appropriate attention that it deserves. I’ve read several negative reviews of French restaurants where the criticism revolves around not being welcomed quickly or served in Outback Steakhouse-minutes. This is not that place, and you don’t want it to be. Try speaking French, if you can, even if it’s just a little. We led with the escargot, which was buttery. I then devoured the veal. My husband had the glazed duck breast, which is more accurately described as a succulent Duck Steak, if such a thing exists. I wish I could remember the veal better so that I could describe the flavor to you exactly, but it was more like an existential experience that I will hold close to my heart forever. I remember that it was amazing, like being gently massaged by an angel in a dream, so I guess you could say that I recommend it. We stayed for dessert(the glazed pear) and aperitifs. We strongly recommend you do the same. This will add another 45 minutes to your stay, but since restaurants in Montmatre seem to have no interest in turning your table, this does not matter. It is, in fact, desired, by you and the restaurant. I tried to order one particular apéritif, and was corrected by the waiter, which I appreciate, because he was right. He knew better. Feel free to ask them what they recommend. The people we sat next to joked around with us as well in broken English. There were some other Americans, some Canadians, and some French. No tables flipped — everyone was there for the night. And what a night it ’twas. Fortunately for me and my American tolerance level, we were staying at an AirBnB across the street. Just let them go at their own pace and enjoy it. I am not an expert in French cuisine — I have enjoyed four good dinners there, and this was the best experience.

This place had hands down the BEST food in Paris I’ve ever had! We had the scallops and duck breast. They were both to die for. The scallops were huge! And the sauce on both of the dishes was amazing.

This place was great! We were literally staying in a flat next door so we walked by and saw them setting up for dinner service around 6pm. The windows and doors were open so we peeked in. Since the owners of the flat recommended it, we thought we should check it out. We asked if we could come back in an hour or so and they said they had availability right at 7pm when they opened so we ran upstairs to freshen up and then came over for dinner. This place is tiny, even by Paris standards. But do not let the size fool you as the food is solid. The staff there is very friendly as well. I got the snails, which were good(although not the best I had in Paris) and the lamb. The lamb was a perfect medium rare and very tasty! My husband got the duck breast and he enjoyed it quite a bit as well. I loved the ambiance and how cozy it was. I definitely would recommend!

Loved, loved, LOVEDDDD!!! Cute little place… Felt intimate and cozy. We had the escargot for appetizer, be careful, it’s HOT! I burned my tongue because I couldn’t wait to stuff my face. Hubby had the Filet de Boeuf with Foie Gras, and it was perfect. I had the Duck Breast, which was freaking great. We loved our food and it seemed everyone else around us did too… The owner was so nice too. Struck up a conversation with us after explaining each dish with passion. You can tell he is proud of his establishment and works hard to give customers a great experience. I wish I could go to Paris all the time just to dine at Chez Toinette. I always recommend this place when I hear someone is visiting Paris.

Came here with a colleague the first time, I was given the address my a Parisienne, and we thought that it was worth to check it out. The restaurant has changed a little since then, but it’s still magical and serves very good food as it used to do. The interior is very cozy, food is very high quality and the area where the restaurant is located is really nice. great place for a romantic dinner.

So yes, here is another rave review on Chez Toinette. Make a reservation, blah blah blah. Though make sure that when you do make a reservation for, let’s say 6 people, have all 6 people show up or you may be asked to buy a plate for all the missing people. We know as we were witness to an incomplete party who left in a huff and puff when asked to do this as one member of their party was not present. Enough of the drama and on to the food. Just like everyone else, my half liked the duck breast with glaze. I had the beef bourguignon which was delicious and very rich. Had to go into a food coma after dinner but well worth it. All in all it was a great experience and the service was excellent.

My wife and I ordered the escargot, scallop, lamb shank and entrecôte and boy do these guys know how to cook! The meats and sauces were perfectly cooked and presented while the service was fantastic. This was easily the best meal I had in a trip spanning 3 weeks across Hong Kong, new york, Madrid and barcelona. In hindsight, I should have forgone all the fine dining in New York and the savings I’d have from the absolutely ridiculous tipping culture there alone would pay for 2 – 3 dinners here. If anyone is planning a trip to Monmatre you should definitely eat here.

This place has the best duck breast with honey and rosemary glaze! It was so memorable that I still remember the taste of it a year later. The portion is huge, and the price for Paris is AWESOME. Roast lamb and steak were both delicious as well. The waiter suggested us to try the steak raw with a yummy mushroom sauce over it, and it was really tender. We’ve also tried the baked cheese with honey and escargot for appetizer. The cheese came with a piece of toasted bread on a bed of salad. Pretty yummy, and I saw a lot of people ordered it. The escargot was cooked out of the shell which made it really flavorful, but I wasn’t a fan of the after taste which tasted like dirt. For dessert, both of the half baked chocolate cake and crème burlee were delicious. The service was great. The waiters and waitress were all very friendly and spoke fluent English. However, don’t forget to make a reservation as this place gets very busy, and the restaurant is small. They close on Sunday and Monday.

This place was a fantastic experience and was probably the highlight of my trip to Paris. The owner/maître d’ was very friendly and was willing to squeeze me in as a walk in, but would suggest making a reservation. He made great recommendations and was perfectly happy speaking English or French. Out of my experiences in this Paris I would say Montmartre in general was more enjoyable than other parts of the city, so definitely check out the area if you’re going to Moulin Rouge or Sacre Couer. I had the lamb shank stew which was very tender and came with a good amount of vegetables. I also has the half baked chocolate cake which was a good ending to a great meal. Would definitely come back to this place in the future.

Unable to walk in late on a Saturday night(silly I know) we made a reservation the following Friday night when we got back into town. The place is small but not too cramped and perfectly romantic for one last dinner in Paris with my wife. The service was fantastic. English was spoken which made my bad French unnecessary. The wine we had(Veyran) was excellent. The food was extraordinary. I had the beef filet(enormous) ala Toinnette which means it included caramelized shallots and a seared foie gras. I ordered it raw expecting a small tiny piece of meat(aka US) and was surprised. All very good. My wife had a fish which was not as good as it was over cooked in the deep fryer. The inside wasn’t bad and her sauce and risotto made up for any lacking flavor. Desert was the special which was the partially cooked chocolate cake(amazing), a strawberry purée(refreshing) and an espresso. All excellent.

Managed to get in without a booking. Extremely lucky. Definitely the best meal in Paris for me. Foie gras for entrée was fantastic followed by the scallop risotto and the chocolate fondant with ice cream. All 3 dishes were impeccable. Would come back for sure. Best to book a day ahead if anyone’s planning to dine here.

It is a small place, and they don’t rush you once you seated so reservation is highly recommended. I had the duck and lamb shank. Duck has a sweet sauce that is bubbling hot when the waiter brings it over. Very good. Large portions. Pear desert is to die for.

So, so delicious! I visited Paris for the first time in September and this was seriously the best meal I had there. The duck and scallops were amazing and the owner was so nice and helpful. We had received a lot of bad service at other establishments in the area(I’m guessing because we speak absolutely no French) but the owner at Chez Toinette couldn’t have been nicer. He explained everything on the menu and even recommended a wine to us that turned out to be fantastic. He said he loves foreign guests and didn’t make us feel bad for our language deficiencies. It’s very busy on weekends so a reservation is a must. The restaurant is also pretty small, but in a cozy way. I usually don’t like dining too close to other people. Highly, highly recommend this spot.

Bottom Line — Make reservations at least a day in advance. The food is fantastic, and the waiters are friendly. Everything we ordered was really good, and I’d definitely come back. I came for dinner on 19 May 2011 with four of my friends. We tried coming the day before, but they told us we needed reservations, so we made them for the next day. Boy are we glad we did! Beware that the main course dishes are pretty generous. We ordered: House Duck foie gras w/Confit Shallot(€ 12.00) — This was nice and buttery. I love foie gras, and this didn’t disappoint. Cassolette of Snails w Garlic and Parsley(€ 9.50) — My friend ordered this and I tried one. It was good; however, I found that the garlic and parsley was so generous that you couldn’t really tell there was snail in it besides a little of the texture. Not sure I’d order this again. Rabbit Thigh w/Purple Grape Mustard Sauce(€ 14.00) — Three of my friends ordered this dish, and they really enjoyed it. I had a bite of the rabbit, and it was quite flavourful. They all said they’d order this dish again. Lamb Shank Stew w/Basil(€ 17.00) — My friend ordered this after seeing it come out to another table. The meat was very tender and flavourful. I had a bite and thought it was among the most tender lamb shank I’d ever had. I’d consider ordering this for myself next time. Duck Breast w/Honey and Thyme(€ 16.00) — This was my dish of choice. The honey reminded me of Moroccan food, and I thought it went surprisingly well with the duck breast. The breast was served pink on the inside, which was perfect. This dish also came with a cauliflower mash, which was amazing with the duck. Mmm! We were too full at the end of dinner to even consider dessert; however, the table next to us ordered some stuff and it looked good. Along with a glass of wine(€ 3.50) and 2 bottles of Perrier(€ 5.00/bottle), our total came to € 116.00 for the five of us. Would love to come back next time I’m in Paris.
