I came across this hotel in Paris while trying to find a place to stay for Paris Pride. We needed a double room and ideally wanted to stay in a hostel to save money, but since none of the hostels could put us up for 5 nights together, this hotel was actually in the same price range and, compared to the one hostel that could put us up, cheaper. This is a good hotel for singles or young couples without kids that need a place to sleep while in Paris and don’t plan on spending a lot of time in the room. First, the positives. The location could not be better. The hotel is located a block away from the closest metro station(Line 8, Faidherbe-Chaligny) and within easy walking distance to both Place de la Bastille and Gare de Lyon. There’s also a Velib(bikeshare) station a few blocks away closer to the Ledru-Rollin station. Additionally, are also lots of nearby boulangeries, patisseries, bars, cafes, and bistros nearby that provide plenty of alternative dining options(if you’re not willing to shell out 15 Euros for the Hotel Breakfast). And finally, the bed is SUPERCOMFORTABLE(probably as comfortable as a Westin or Sheraton bed), not to the mention the interiors are definitely very modern and perfect for young people looking for trendy interior design. However, there are several drawbacks. First, space is very much at a premium. The hotel is small, as are the elevators, hallways, rooms, etc… I also didn’t really like the fact that I had to walk outside through what is essentially a repurposed fire escape to get to the room(although at the end of the day it didn’t matter that much). In addition, our shower clogged and our bathroom flooded every time we took a shower(in hindsight, we should have asked to fix that but I’m not sure if that would have helped). Finally, the staff was sort of a hit or miss in terms of being nice and hospitable. About half of them seemed willing to help and go out of their way, while the other half seemed pretty cold. And finally, the hotel has virtually no amenities, which is fine for guests like us who want to see the city, but may not be suitable for those looking for a pool/gym/business center etc… Overall, despite several setbacks in terms of space and service, the hotel’s superior location and comfy bed were enough for me to garner it four stars. I think next time I would stay elsewhere only so that I would be able to experience another neighborhood, but this hotel is great for young travelers who want to spend more time exploring the city and less time in their room, while still having a comfortable bed to come home to every night. Other important information: Breakfast is served every morning from 7−10am for 15 Euros, although it is much cheaper to walk down Boul. Faubourg and get a coffee and pain au chocolat from one of the many local cafes. The hotel will also print documents for you free of charge(i.e. tickets) if you email them. There’s also free wi-fi, and they also offer door-to-door shuttles from the hotel to Charles de Gaulle and Orly.
