I love this place! During my 5 day in Paris, I really tempted to come here more than one time. We did not make reservation but came here a bit early for dinner so we got seated right away. My husband and I order snails, foie gras, grilled duck and onion soup. Onion soup was amazing, or beyond amazing. It’s rich, creamy, flavorful … all the goodness in one cup of soup. My husband never had onion soup before and when he tried a sip of my soup, he was like, omg wtf is this, why is it soooooo good? Snails were so so, but note that my opinion is very biased here as I am from Vietnam where people make hundreds of different dishes from snails, eat snails for super, breakfast, lunch, dinner dish. Highly recommend anyone who wants to discover the arts of eating snails to travel to Vietnam and try some local snail places. Foie gras to me is more like a must try dish in Paris. I am really into the fatty liver, it tasted like raw fat to me…

First night in town and I had a massive craving for foie gras. Just recently allowed its sale back home but I had to have it here. Hey, it’s France! Found this place on Unilocal, and after a some sightseeing, made a B-Line here around 5 or so. It was still pretty early for dinner by Parisian standards but this place was pretty busy already. Admittedly, the place is small but it does have tables outside if you’re willing to brave the cold. The service and atmosphere is incredible here. It will definitely give you that feeling you’re looking for when you’re dining in Paris. Ok, so now the food. I started with onion soup and then the seared foie gras. The onion soup was solid. Yes, maybe it isn’t the best in town but it was damn good! Now for that which I came to this place for and for what dish brings me great joy and guilt, the seared foie gras. I absolutely loved it! OK, quick disclaimer, if you haven’t eaten foie gras before be prepared for some serious richness. Honestly, I ate one all myself… The greens they serve with it is a must because of how decadent the dish is you need to cut the richness. I’ve had it a few places in Paris, but man did I love this dish. Finished off with foie gras ravioli in truffle cream sauce. A little too much foie gras, maybe, but this dish was excellent. The serving is not large, but after all I had eaten, was perfect for me. I would definitely recommend this place.

The foie gras ravioli in truffle sauce was the single most decadent dish I’ve ever tasted in my life. I literally looked up towards to sky after my first bite. It so balanced(rich yet light) with a sauce that deserves its own Michelin star. Restaurant is attached to a corner mart of sorts, selling meats/cheeses/foie. Café is on the smaller side but I didn’t encounter any crowds around 2pm on a weekday.

Quelle adresse !

Good food, friendly service, and cute(but crowded) restaurant. Per the recommendations of other Unilocalers, we ordered the escargot, the seared foie gras with apple and ginger toast(which also comes with a small side salad) and the foie gras ravioli in truffle cream sauce, and of course, a glass of the house red wine. The escargot was big, but unfortunately didn’t have much flavor. I still enjoyed the texture of the meat though and it was cooked well. The seared foie gras was my favorite. It’s a very generous piece for 18 € and the apple/ginger toast complimented it well. The ravioli was delicious, but only 6 small pieces! The ravioli skin is like wonton skin and a bit overcooked for my liking, but the truffle cream sauce made up for it. Just dip the complimentary bread into the sauce and that is reason enough to order this dish! Our server was very friendly, although he struggled with giving us recommendations. I think giving recs is only a thing in America.

When in Paris, eat as the Parisians do. And that is exactly what I did. Comptoir de la Gastronomie is a foie gras lover’s paradise. It is all about foie gras here and it tastes amazing, although it can be an acquired taste. I’m salivating as I write this review! The last time I visited this restaurant, my order consisted of French onion soup, escargot, foie gras ravioli, a cow head entrée, and a rabbit stew entrée. Each dish bursted with harmonious flavors. The meal also comes with an endless supply of complimentary French bread, which I dipped plenty of times into the French onion soup(that got quickly devoured!) I’ve included some photos to make up for my loss of words for such an incredible meal. I cannot wait to eat here again one day.

Visiting Paris on my honeymoon was basically an excuse to go NUTS with restaurants. We hadn’t planned much else than eating, so I was KINDA disappointed in the food at most places. I’m so happy Unilocal came through with Comptoir de la Gastronomie. We had a reservation(a little difficult to make over the phone, but most of the staff speaks some English) and when we walked in they wanted to seat us inside in between two very cozy two-tops. We had just booked it on foot from Notre Dame so we wouldn’t be late and I was SWEATY. I really didn’t want to sit inside and plus I wanted to smoke, so I asked if we could be moved outside and there was no problem. Our server put us at a 4-top that he separated into two 2-tops, but one side was a bench that wasn’t really working to split up. Luckily, the couple they seated next to us was super fun and cool and we had actually seen them at the Catacombs earlier in the day. We ended up just having dinner together and sharing escargot, cheese and wine. It was so fun!(Hi Amberly and Christian!) The escargot is fantastic, perfectly plump and decadent, perfect for topping a baguette round. My husband ordered the duck shepards pie and I had to get the ultimate French dish — foie gras ravioli with truffle cream sauce. It’s basically the best thing I’ve ever eaten. It’s just… so good. Can’t even describe. I really fell in love with foie on this trip and now I want it all the time. I had a few bites of the pure and it was also outstanding. Pretty sure anything you order here will be good. The servers are friendly and the food is amazing!

It’s all about that foie, that foie, that foie and onion soup! So prior to our arrival in Paris I had Comptoir de la Gastronomie bookmarked, but little did I realize how big Paris actually was. Had I not left my passport at the hotel when I went to Christian Loubotin nearby then I would have probably not stop by for a late lunch after coming back to start the VAT paperwork. We ordered and shared: onion soup, foie gras ravioli in a truffle sauce, and seared foie gras over toast with apple and salad. The onion soup was as good as it gets. The broth was perfectly balanced, oozy cheese, sweet onions. Hearty and comforting. The foie gras ravioli was mine, and they were perfectly plumped with silky foie gras pieces. The truffle cream sauce was thin, but they may have done this to prevent the dish from feeling too rich. It was a wonderful accompliment to the foie gras ravioli. Next up was the hunk of foie gras. It melted like butter in our mouths. The salad was a nice simple mix of greens to help ease your guilt from eating such a big portion of fatty foie gras. Loved the salty, sweet, semi acidic and fatty combinations of flavors from the foie gras, greens, and apple. If you are a foie gras and duck fan you definitely have to come to Comptoir de la Gastronomie! It’s a restaurant/food purveyor combo. We got lucky with getting a table for a late lunch after 3PM, but you can always make a reservation online or by phone. This spot seems to be a hit with locals and tourists alike. To this day, I still think about the magical foie gras experience here.

Not quite sure how to rate this place as most people seem to really enjoy their meal, especially the canard(duck). We only tried two dishes: Fried Fois Gras: This was way over the top. While I don’t doubt their fois gras is solid, it was waaaaay too much for two people. The fried fois gras here is similar to the taste of bone marrow, extremely rich, pure fattiness, and not much in terms of flavor. Maybe we should have tried the other Mixed Fois Gras plate instead. French Onion Soup: This was just okay. I read some reviews where they claimed this as the best french onion soup ever, yet I thought it was just average. While service was decent, I felt we should have ordered other dishes instead of the above mentioned. 3 stars.

This is very small bistro, and definitely a great place for lunch. They had a delicious foie gras ravioli which was delicious. I believe they take reservations as well. The waiter got my order wrong, but we didn’t have time to wait for the dish to come out so I took what I was given. It was still good. It is a little out of the way from public transportation, but it definitely a well-known local bistro. There is a deli/store adjacent to it that is very cool. This place was good, but I would definitely keep exploring different bistros.

Foie gras ravioli with truffle sauce is what I came here for. It was my first time having duck liver and I thought I would like it but I couldn’t eat all the liver. However, I did like the truffle oil sauce. I also tried the escargots with green sauce but it wasn’t enjoyable for me either because my tastebuds thought they tasted blah. I liked the duck breast with balsamic sauce better.

On my first day in Paris, I was eager to dive into some good French eats. I saw that Comptoir de la Gastronomie got some great reviews and decided to check it out. I saw a logo of a duck and on the window some French staples such as foie gras, confit, cassoulet, and terrines were listed in big bold letters. It was the middle of a weekday and it wasn’t that busy. I wasn’t sure what the protocol is when eating out in Paris, so I just asked somebody for a table for 1. They gave me a table outside facing the street and brought out some fresh cut bread. I noticed that everyone in Paris loves to eat outside. Every restaurant seemed to have tables outside just facing the street so you could just people watch instead of actually facing each other. I started off with some random wine that they suggested since wine was actually cheaper than water in France. I already knew what I was gonna get, since I kept seeing people talk about their signature item, the foie gras ravioli in white truffle cream sauce. In Chicago, foie gras is kind of a trendy delicacy. For a while it wasn’t even legal to serve it, but now a lot of restaurants use it as a buzzword on the menu and top it on everything from hot dogs/burgers to scrambled eggs. The ravioli was amazing. The pasta seemed to be hand made and the foie gras inside was silky smooth and just melted in your mouth. The cream sauce was a thinner sauce that didn’t really coat the noodles too much, but had a lot of flavor without being too rich. I actually dipped my bread in it and used a spoon to finish it off like soup haha. Everything about that meal was just delicious with very light and clean flavors, but it wasn’t that filling. It was definitely more of an appetizer type dish in my book. Overall, it was a pretty expensive meal, especially given that it wasn’t that much food, but the awesome flavors made it well worth it.

Found this place on Unilocal want wanted to give it a try. So I tried to call to make a reservation but it was all booked up for the night. I asked the server what time would be the best to arrive with no reservation and she told me that anytime before 7pm would be good because it gets really busy after that. Arrived at 6:30pm and asked for a seat outside because we wanted to experience eating out on the sidewalk while in Paris… keep in mind that if you sit out there, be prepare to smell cigarette smoke. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main course to share. Appetizers: Onion soup — Yummy! This was even better tasting than the one I had the night before. Foie gras ravioli in truffle cream sauce — O.M.G. I think I’m in heaven. The sauce in this this is absolutely delicious! Came with only 4 ravioli. Didn’t taste too much foie gras, but the truffle sauce is wonderful. I use the bread and cleaned up all the sauce on this place… if there was no one there, I would like the plate clean… that was how good it was. Main Course: Duck filet with balsamic vinegar sauce — this is like a duck steak. Must have been a fat duck in order to get a piece of steak like that. The dish was okay. Wish the duck was a little more tender. The balsamic vinegar sauce is what made the dish pretty good. Shepard’s Pie with Canard — basically this is dish of duck pieces with mash potatoes. It was alright. The duck in this dish is pretty gamy. Overall, the appetizers are very delicious and the main course was okay. Would of given it 3.5 stars, but since the service was good, I rounded up.

Make reservations online! We celebrated our 5 year anniversary at this cute restaurant. It was actually my 2nd time eating here, but first time with my family. We were promptly seated as we informed the host of our reservations. We chose to sit outside given it was a nice evening. They are BABY Friendly! We ordered the foie gras capriccio, escargot, ravioli, and truffle foie gras pasta. We were foie gras’d out! Each dish was delicious and had generous portions. I think the word has gotten out because it was 90% tourists. The service was excellent! Can’t wait till we come back to Paris again!

I was soooooo excited to come and eat here. Like no joke, I planned my entire day around making it here on time for my lunch reservation. Reading all the 5 star reviews and looking at all the pictures made me salivate and I was looking forward to trying everything. I don’t know if my expectations were too high, but they were not met. :( I had a 12:00 lunch reservation, which I don’t think I really needed, as there weren’t that many people. But again, I was SO excited to eat here that I made sure nothing could get in my way of trying the food here. I ordered the onion soup and the duck breast. The onion soup was really good, and I’m definitely not complaining about that huge chunk of melted cheese on the top. What I will complain about though is the duck. The waiter told me that the duck would be cooked to a medium rare, which is my preference anyway, but when it came out, it was more of a medium. The duck breast was so hard to cut, I was afraid I was gonna elbow the girl next to me from sawing the duck with my knife so hard. The duck was extremely chewy, and I felt like I was chewing gum, as no matter how much I chewed, the meat just wouldn’t break. I’m not sure if it’s just me, and maybe I haven’t had enough duck in my life to justify calling this duck terrible, but… it was terrible. I only ate half of it, and felt bad about wasting the rest, but I just couldn’t eat any more of it. Unfortunately, I left this place very disappointed. The saving grace for this place for me was strictly the onion soup.

I’m going backwards. Starting with the Éclair. Our very sweet server recommended it for dessert(paired w cognac) and indicated that it was big but his favorite. It came to our table and we burst out in laughter. HOW did sweet server think two of us could finish this fresh berry éclair that was bigger than my head? He just winked and walked off. We started eating… There were two types of cream — a vanilla bean airy cream and another fuller but light crème. One bite, two bites… 6 bites. How were we not full? We were devouring this magnanimous thing on our dish. Server comes over and says«you like? Yes it’s big but it is LIGHT». I will never view eclairs in the same way. This was SO excellent and it felt like I ate nothing after eating half of it. The best part of our meal. We also ordered the escargot — spouse enjoyed them. I liked them but thought the sauce at Le comptoir du relais was better. We also ordered the French Onion soup. It was very good — but not any better than very good French onion soups we have had in NYC. Worth it — but nothing new. The wine and salad was also pretty good. We were spoiled by a very sweet server and staff — which really made the night enjoyable. Excellent service. The food was good(3 – 4 stars). The dessert unbelievable and something I have never known existed(5 stars for the dessert).

Similar to my experience at East Mamma( ), I strolled into Comptoir de la Gastronomie on a Saturday afternoon with sky high expectations. A bit unlike East Mamma however, my culinary experience fell a tad bit short of expectation. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? One thing I will say is that the service and atmosphere at Comptoir de la Gastronomie are both fantastic. The old cheese shop atmosphere is fantastic in it’s own right, but it combo’s very nicely as a dining area, and while seating can be limited at peak times, the location really is ideal right there on rue Montmarte. My server was excellent and spoke perfect English, and my dish came out very quickly. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I knew I was going to order the foie gras ravioli in truffle oil long before I even touched down in Paris, and I was actually pleasantly surprised that such an exotic dish(one that I can’t even legally get in some parts of my home country) came with a price tag of only € 18,00. I’ll admit that the portion was a tad bit small, with maybe only four pieces of ravioli, but all in all this was a fair price for something so unique and freshly prepared. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Was it good? Yes. Did it blow me away? Not so much. The concept is a great one, and while I’m not the world’s biggest foie gras fan, it’s something that certainly pairs nicely when cased in ravioli. My gripe here was the ratio between ravioli and what was(as you can see in the picture) an absolutely overwhelming quantity of truffle oil and cream sauce. Have another look at the picture — it’s a bit much no? Not surprisingly, the result was the entire dish tasting like, well, truffle oil and cream sauce, and I honestly couldn’t tell you if the foie gras ravioli had any intrinsic flavor of it’s own. That’s a problem with a dish like foie gras, and it left me wanting something a bit different. The sauce ended up being great for dipping bread after my meal, but I would have liked it tapered down just a bit. Single Star granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? If you’re a foie gras enthusiast than you should absolutely come here, and even if you just want a good atmosphere for people watching Comptoir de la Gastrnomie checks the box, but know what you’re getting prior to ordering to avoid any surprises. No Star Granted.

We had a very duck centric meal! Three of us shared the pan seared foie gras, duck breast with balsamic reduction, escargot(6), and the duck & orange salad. This was perfect amount of food, as we were full, but not stuffed. The foie gras was served on top of a cooked apple slice, and gingerbread. The combination of flavors were wonderful, and balanced well. The foie was a little rich, but not too heavy. The duct breast was cooked medium rare. It was tender and juicy. The balsamic reduction was very good as well. The escargot was not drenched in butter like most escargot dishes elsewhere. There was some butter & parsley, but I could still taste the escargot. This was well done. Lastly, the duck & orange salad was unique. It was shredded duck meat with orange essence. There were small pieces of orange, but you can tell the duck was marinated in its juice. The duck meat was encased in a thin tart-like crust made out of bread. It was topped with what tasted like whipped cream, which was a little weird to me, but it still worked. The meal was great! I would definitely recommend this place for visitors & locals alike. The waitress is pretty fluent in English, so it was no problem.

For all the true foodie adventurers who don’t pay strong attention to PETA or if you’re a human who just likes to eat new/tasty things Comptoir de la Gastronomie is the place to be for a very authentic French food experience in the setting of amazing foie gras. If you don’t know what foie gras here, let me paste the wikipedia definition for you here: Foie gras is a food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened. By French law, foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by force-feeding corn with a feeding tube, a process also known as gavage. Doesn’t that actually sound kind of terrible? That’s where my PETA comment comes from. I’m from California and foie gras was banned recently because of the way it’s produced so it’s nice to have access to it in a place that specialized in it. So if you’re one to appreciate the culinary arts, you must 100% visit this place. I was privileged to be here and try: 1) Foie gras ravioli 2) French onion soup 3) Duck breast 4) Escargot Everything was exquisite and will leave you satisfied(don’t forget to grab a glass a wine with your meal). This is my favorite restaurant in Paris(competing with places like Les Cocettes) and if I only had one place to go to, this would be it for the best most authentic unique French dining experience. It’s cozy, well-decorated, service is great, and does not seem touristy. I give my highest recommendation to this joint. It’s located near many clothing shops(to include Christian Louboutin) if you’re in the mood to buy something before/after a good meal.
