Dupont Versailles

Had dinner here on a rainy Friday evening. The service was a bit slow at times, but this was understandable: (1) it was Friday evening; (2) I was seated behind a pillar; and (3) my waitress dropped some dishes and was otherwise occupied. Excellent food, drink, and dessert.

Came here twice out of convenience. It’s across the street from the Paris expo. The servers are quite friendly and converse with you in English.
Once for breakfast– we had espressos and shared a Nutella crêpe. Unfortunately, if there can be such a thing. this crêpe had a bit too much Nutella and the crêpe was too gummy. I was so turned off by this crêpe, I couldn’t fathom trying any other crêpe during my stay in Paris. Boo hoo.
Once for dinner– My first time escargot experience was here! I am an escargot believer now. They were favorful and oh so juicy! I soaked up the remaining sauce with the bread and it was soooo delicious! I also tried the beef tartare. It was okay, but nothing special. Tasted bland though the portion was huge.
The prices are a bit high for what you get but I’d come back for the yummy escargot. :)

Eating at the center of Paris can be a bit of a nightmare. You will fork over the big bucks (or in this case euros). I remember being at the Avenue de l’Opera and looking over the outside menus for various restaurants only to see ridiculously high prices for everything including water.
In comes Dupont Café to the rescue. It was a good walking distance from our hotel at the Port du Versailles. I ordered a steak (well done) with rice. The waiter was super nice. My mother spoke to him in her native Spanish and broken English and got her point across. He understood us or tried to and it showed. My steak was pretty good but the texture of the rice was weird. It didn’t taste like anything. I also ordered dessert. A chocolate tart. It was AMAZING. But the portion is super tiny.

Cette brasserie, idéalement située, est un soulagement pour qui veut échapper à la pluie parisienne. Et le personnel se révèle chaleureux et efficace, la carte est classique avec heureusement un assortiment de pâtisseries du jour délectables. Un bemol, c’est un peu cher, on sent qu’on est à Paris.

L’attrape-touriste idéal des visiteurs du salon.
L’endroit est plutôt bruyant et généralement très fréquenté.
A de multiples reprises et sans raison, les serveurs m’ont fait de désagréables remarques ou commentaires.
Les boissons sont extrêmement chères et je me suis systématiquement vu refuser de payer par carte de crédit pour une consommation inférieure à 15 euros (!).
Cette brasserie présente l’avantage d’être ouverte en continu sur une large plage horaire.
J’y ai un jour commandé un plant en milieu d’après-midi et j’ai trouvé des petits cafards dans ma salade.
Je l’ai signalé au serveur qui n’a présenté aucune excuse, apportant ensuite un plat identique et l’addition !
Depuis ce jour, je n”y ai jamais remis les pieds et déconseille à tous d’y aller. Sur le Boulevard Victor, ce né sont pas les restaurants qui manquent !

A solid three stars.
The good is decent — nothing to write home about (or the modern equivalent, post Facebook pics to make your friends jealous about), but filling. The service was really good; attentive without rushing (I was jetlagged and managed to get in and out in just over an hour, which is lightening fast for diner français). The servers seem to speak English (at least one did — I stuck with French) and the menu is in both languages, if that’s helpful.
I had a goat cheese on toast entrée, farmer’s crêpe, and crème caramel with café. The glass of Sancerre was delicious, the food was adequate. Perhaps a bit overpriced for the value; € 34 for what I mentioned.
Due to the proximity to the Mercure where I’m staying and its paltry-​looking room service menu, I’ll likely come back to DuPont Versailles, but not before trying out a couple others nearby.

La dernière fois que j’ai déjeuné dans le coin avec des collègues, je suis allé Chez Clément juste en face alors pour changer, j’ai opté pour le café d’en face, d’autant qu’on m’avait dit que c’était un endroit sympa pour déjeuner…
Nous avons évité la terrasse qui est assez bruyante et dont le confort né doit pas être au top en raison des tables relativement petites et en pente… A l’intérieur, il y a donc plus d’espace et c’est bien plus confortable. La carte surprend un peu avec des morceaux de papier scotchés en fonction des plats du jour, etc…
Il existe une formule mais malheureusement, peu de plats figurent dedans et les amateurs de poissons n’y ont pas le droit car il n’y a que de la viande ! J’ai pris une bavette avec frites, classique mais étant une valeur sûre !
La tarte aux fraises en dessert était très bonne et le café comme il faut ! Un service sympathique sauf lorsque j’ai demandé à une dame la possibilité de mettre le poisson dans la formule, je me suis fait renvoyer dans mes 26 mètres !
Au final, c’est à peu près comme en face !

The escargot was delicious, especially for a 1^st timer… I wish the service was as good. I had to wait a long time for someone to take my order and even longer to get a glass of water (there were 2 people and they brought 1 glass). The service did not make me feel comfortable enough to stay for dinner but, I enjoyed the entrée (appetizer for my American friends). The place was full of people so I know the food was tasty but, when I am out I like good service.

While train-​hopping around Paris we found this place right outside the Versailles expo center. It was mid day and it didn’t look too busy so we decided to have a look. A «Bonjour» to the waiter and he seated us at a bistro table right outside so that we could people-​watch as we enjoyed our meal. He spoke english and helped us with the menu. Since we were in France we had to try the escargot and mussels. The escargot was moist, juicy and cooked just right. The mussels were perfectly seasoned and tasted fresh. As we were finishing, business started picking up and the place got packed. Our waiter stopped by periodically to see how we were doing, but did not rush us. That’s one thing about French waiters. They want you to sit and enjoy your experience. That actually seems to be the etiquette. Eat your meal slowly and relax. Once you’re finished, just hang out, digest, have a cup of coffee.
I like this attitude.

A l’occasion d’une sortie «Salon», fixez votre point de rendez-​vous au café Dupont Versailles…
Facile à trouver, il est placé juste à la bouche du métro Porte de Versailles et face au Parc des Expositions.
L’idéal aussi pour prendre un café à sa grande terrasse, y observer les allées et venues des bus entiers des visiteurs du Parc des Expos…

Le flipper Shrek à tester. C’est le même plateau que le Family Guy, donc assez sympa avec le mini-​plateau en haut à droite, mais un peu frustrant parfois (pas grand chose à faire quand la bille a décidé de passer entre les flips).
Gros bémol tout de même: le son est vraiment réglé au minimum, donc on né profite pas de l’ambiance sonore, et il faut regarder régulièrement l’écran pour savoir où on en est.
