Nothing spectacular about the food. Good value for money. 12 € for a long skewer of mixed grilled meats with rice, baked potato and salad.

I motion that Unilocal should considering added a 0 out of 5 star rating for«regrets». I’m very prudent, even tactical when it comes to picking a place to eat but the best get had from time to time too. Mexican time share reps and even hustlers at a shady pool hall should take some ques from the guys at the Hellenis. I gotta give credit where credit is due — these guys are smoooooooth. While surveying for a place to eat in the Latin quarters, this gentleman approached us and offered a free bottle of wine with our meal and gave me a business card, then said to come back if we have time for a great meal. That’s one slick opener, I was already piqued. Naturally you ask about stipulations and more info, like what kind of wine, what’s on the menu, etc. He would answer each question by gently herding you deeper into the restaurant and filling your head with ideas of an exquisite meal for a opportune price. Before we knew it we were sitting at the table and none the wiser. — moment of sobriety — He has done his job, now you’re just a butt in a chair and his attention abruptly shifts back to the streets to hook in more. The servers are not in any particular uniform, i wasn’t even sure who were the servers until one decended upon us and demanded«OK, what do you want?» I would have left at this point but I felt rather intimidated and to be honest was afraid to be yelled at or beaten up in an alley should I pick up and go. The curt server almost distracted me from the guy at the bar filling up an empty wine bottle from a box of wine I can only hope is actually French. There was our free bottle of wine. I should have known better but in my defence there are great deals in Paris if you know where to look so I thought this might have been the case. To top things off, they flat out lied. The free bottle of wine magically became some surcharge that was added to our entries at the end. When I asked about the decrepancy in the bill, I was openly brushed off and almost publicly mocked, accused that we didn’t order enough food to deserve a free bottle of wine. Not going to detail how poor the food was, just that it was the worse I’ve had in Paris, by a long shot. Hindsight is 20/20, I’m just a bit embarassed to have been swindled.

Hellenis is located in the Latin Quarter in Paris and is the worst restaurant I‘ve stepped foot into. Let me start by saying that the Latin Quarter is cheerful, fun and we loved the atmosphere. As we walked by this restaurant, there was a man standing outside trying to get customers to come inside and eat. We told him that we already had dinner and the skewers of meat, seafood and vegetables looked delicious, but are too big. “No problem! Come in and have a drink and share some food.“ He seemed super friendly and the restaurant looked like a mom and pop shop. I liked helping out those restaurants and convinced our group to have some snacks here. We sat down and a waiter came by to give us menus. My friend greeted the waiter, but he didn‘t even look at us and just dropped off the menus. When we decided to have 2 skewers, I asked for service from another waiter. Before I can open my mouth, he says “What do you want?“ It caught me offguard and I paused for a second, which prompted him to say “What do you want?“ again. That should have been our queue to leave, but our feet were a little tired from all the walking and we thought, eh, what the hell, we‘ll try the food and I can Unilocal about this later. We asked the waiter for the prices of 2 skewers. The meat skewer was $ 12 and the seafood one was $ 16. We told him we want 1 of each and he took our orders and yelled out something to the cook. I didn‘t understand everything that was said, but judging by the body language, he wasn‘t happy. The food was mediocore as the same sauce were used for all meats and seafood. The sauage was OK, but all the other meats were a little dry. The wine we had was bad quality and we were surprised we would get that in Paris.(FYI — the rest of the trip, we had amazing wine) At the end of our meal, we were overcharged by 2 Euros. When we brought this up to them, they became angry with us, saying that it was too bad and it was because we only ordered 2 dishes of food and there were 4 of us. Are you kidding me? How can you do business like this?! We were firm, but calm when explaining to them that we told the man from the beginning that we had dinner already and just having snacks. Their voices began to get louder and louder and we can see other patrons in the restaurant look over at us. We didn‘t want this to ruin our trip, so we just paid the measley 2 Euros extra and left. It‘s not about the money, but the principle. This restaurant is ridiculous with atrocious service and an embarassment to Paris. I hope this review helps out other people who plan to visit this beautiful city and avoid this restaurant like The Plague!
