Hippopotamus

This place was great. My husband and I each ordered a small chicken Caesar salad to start and they were awesome. My husband ordered a cheeseburger, the burger was good, ordered medium well but came more medium which wasn’t a big deal. I ordered Salmon and also got a side of Mac and cheese and I was completely happy with both selections. The restaurant also catered to us by giving us a waiter who spoke English and gave us menus in English. Great meal and experience. Price was normal for what we got plus two cocktails.

We enjoyed it better then most people judging by the reviews. Our food was good and the server wasn’t bad either.
We went in on Bastille Day, so they were busy but were able to sit us within 5 minutes. This is a good place for burgers but our margaritas sucked!
I’m sure there are better places then this but also it was mediocre!

Je venais à l’Hippo pour ses bonnes viandes, ses sauces et les accompagnements a volonté. Tout à changer ou presque. Fini les chips maison offertes à l’apéro. C’est maintenant des chips de maïs pas du tout faites maison. Ça commence mal. Sur la carte, je né retrouve pas le «les accompagnements sont à volonté». Je demande à la serveuse qui me dit que la formule à changer car … «on en jetait trop»… Je né suis pas du tout convaincu. J’aimais bien prendre une ptit salade moi avec mon entrecôte et ses frites. Mais non, pour pas gâcher, on né me donnera pas de salade, même après avoir gentiment demandé. J’aimerais pas contre connaître la quantité de salade qui a été jetée le soir ou je suis passé. Vous avez dit gâchis? Le compromis client content et les économies n’est pas bien choisis à mon goût.
Bön, par contre le viande est toujours de qualité. Il faut le dire. Entrecôte cuite comme je le voulais, bien tendre et tout. Les frites sont bonnes mais il en manquerait presque un peu pour finir la viande. A les économies… pardon le gâchis des clients… Depuis que le fournisseur de pain à changer, je n’y touché même pas. On dirait du plastique. C’est bon pour les économies du pain que l’on n’a pas envie de manger. On peut le servir toute la journée !
En tant que «vieux» client, je suis déçu déçu de l’Hippo. Je vais m’en aller manger ailleurs de la bonne viande. C’est dit.

Je passé les commentaires sur la chaîné de restaurants pour m’attarder plus spécifiquement sur celui-​là.
Situé juste sur la place de Bastille, donc restaurant très accessible. La décoration est la même qu’ailleurs; l’accueil est agréable.
Le service est rapide mais pas toujours assuré par le même serveur. Dommage.
A l’occasion de mon anniversaire, la carte fidélité me donnait droit à une coupe de champagne. Il a fallu que le serveur montre l’email (sur mon téléphone) à son patron pour qu’il accepte! Vive la confiance …

cela faitait longtemps que je n’avais pas mis les pieds dans un hippopotamus mais celui la est à fuir de toute urgence. viande trop cuite et trop nerveuse, frite trop salée; Temps d’attente trop long. Né pas y mettre les pieds

Passez votre chemin c’est une honte. Un hamburger à 15,50 € OK ! … mais minable NON ! AFFLIGEANT !

Don’t go here!!! Had our worst meal during our stay in Paris here. The service was very unprofessional and totally not friendly. We’ve been ignored like 10 miutes after entering the restaurant and wating at the entrance, waiters everywhere, but they didn’t talk back to us. Then later, when we got finally a table, we asked kindly if it was possible to change to another free table because my girlfriend got cold next to the door: The yelled answer by the waitress was just: NO! NO! We asked another one and suddenly it was possible?!
The food: I paid 29 EUR for my Hippo plaisir and chose the Entrecôte for additional 4 EUR because I wanted to eat something special. It was the worst piece of meat I’ve been eating in a very long time. 50% fat and craves, disgusting! Fries and the dessert (ben&jerrys) were the best of the whole menu. Entrees were not very good: worst carpaccio ever, and my fried shrimps were almost completely cold. (The crème brulée was)
Please rather go to the hard rock café or a nice french/​italian restaurant. Cheaper, nicer and better food ;)

It was late, we were hungry, it was Hippopotamus!
In the states, a place called Hippopotamus with a scantily-​clad dressed Hippo wouldn’t have any patrons… But this is Paris, it makes sense. Mainly because everyone is hyped up on Wine and Coffee.
We had walked from the 5^th district and decided to get a bite. I was thinking it was going to be McDonalds-​esque but it wasn’t. Oh btw, McDonald’s in Paris ain’t your average McDonald’s. In Paris they have bakeries and bars inside of Mickey D’s.
We were seated, by the worlds most annoying couple. Why were they annoying? Because they ate slow lol. I was hungry and it seemed like they ate every single ingredient individually. It took them an hour to eat a chicken salad. Seriously?
The menu was great. They had something for every price point. And their selection of value meals was right up my alley. I got a burger and something else… sorry it was late didn’t I tell you. The burger was ok, nothing to right home about. I tried not to think about it, in my mind they use Hippo meat and not beef. See, why this wouldn’t work in the states? You think anybody would eat at the burger joint called Cat? or Dog? NO.
The service was decent, and I would come back again for a Parisian late night meal.

Accueil désagréable service long et deplorable,

We walked by this restaurant many times during our stay and it was always full. We finally decided to try it on our last evening there since it was raining and we didn’t feel like going in search of a restaurant.
The restaurant was very clean and bright. The atmosphere is lively. Food was good, steaks cooked to order, no complaints there. Drinks from the bar were okay but on the weak side. Prices are decent and they have several formules options.
So why did I only give it 3 stars? Service. Our server was not necessarily rude, but he was indifferent and abrupt. I admit, my high school French is not the best, but it did help me out quite a bit during our visit. I tried asking about different cuts of meats, (didn’t learn that in H. S) but was basically brushed off. So I just stuck to entrecôte. In hindsight, I should have ordered the 5 cut sampler, but then again, I wouldn’t know which was which.
With so many other options in the area, I would probably skip it next time.

When the feet are tired from all the sight-​seeing and the kids are screaming, this restaurant chain can provide some relief. They do a good steak, small yes, but that’s why the French are so thin (aside from the smoking). The food is well prepared and the staff is very friendly. Prices are what you expect for a touristy spot.

Last year I went here with Elizabeth Y, Matt J, and our Parisian friends! They have so many different things to select from that I didnt’ know what to choose! I ended up selecting the grilled fish with the green bean and scalloped potato sides. The fish wasn’t over done and def. had that burnt grill taste which i love! The green beans were good. but nothing out of the ordinary. As for the scalloped potatoes… i LOVED these (which may be due to the fact that i heart carbs). The great thing at this place is that it includes never ending sides! (maybe thats why the prices are a little steep. and also cuz its paris!)

Hippopotamus is the TGIFridays of France. They have a long list of locations and are well known. That being said the menu and food are what I would consider even better than that sure. They have an amazing selection of steaks along with many other dishes many from America but also many modern French dishes as well. I was quite impressed with this place considering it was a chain and the expectations we had. We each got the T-​bone and it was cooked perfectly. They had an amazing chocolate fondant which was done to perfection as well. It does have that family restaurant chain feel to it, but the food is on a level above what you would expect from such a place. Added bonus — it’s cheaper than TGIFridays.

Que ce soit ouvert tard est un gros point fort de ce resto. En revanche, pour y être retourné hier soir, je confirme un service assez excecrable: d’une lenteur affligeante… il nous a fallu répéter a plusieurs reprises différentes commande. 15mn avant d’avoir des assiettes, 5mn pour obtenir du sel, une viande commandée à point servie saignante, la serveuse qui nous sort un argumentaire de vente pour nous consommer sur le vin qui manifestement n’y connais rien. Bref, très déçu… Le pire est que le resto était loin d’être complet.

Hippopotamus: une chaîné de restos pour les amateurs de viande.
Pendant un moment, c’était devenu dégoûtant, je n’y mettais plus les pieds. Et puis, récemment, toute la déco a été refaite. Et avec elle, la qualité des plats s’est amélioré. Du moins pour l’hippo de Bastille.
On né va pas se mentir, les entrées et les desserts sont toujours très très moyens, mais la viande de boeuf est vraiment bonne.
Prix très attractifs. Ambiance sympathique.

Faut pas être difficile
Pas cher hippo? A voir… Pour le reste, le service confine à la nullité absolue et les viandes sont justes correctes. Alors, franchement, passez votre chemin.

Le temple de la viande !
Les couleurs c’est rouge et noir et la nourriture c’est viande viande et viande ! sous toutes les coutures, de toutes les facons, végétariens passez donc votre chemin mais pour les amateurs de chair bien grillée, vous etes bien tombés ! et honnetement la viande est bonne et savoureuse, surtout pour le prix, en général assez abordable.

Réduction de 30% sur le plat principal si on commande avant 19h30: ceci n’est pas à négliger. Accompagnements (frites, haricots verts …) ainsi que sauces à volonté. La viande est tendre et goûteuse. Le personnel accueillant.

Oui, miam ! Ok tout le monde n’aime pas les chaînes de restaurants, et ils ont souvent raisons, mais il y a des exceptions. Je né parlerai pas de la chaîné en général mais cet Hippo-​là en est une. Alors on né vient pas chez Hippo pour le cadre ou le service, mais pour la viande. Ami (e)s amateur (trice) de côte de boeuf soyez les biens venus. Nous étions 2 et nous nous sommes régalés ! De plus et je tiens à le signaler, le service et correct et le patron très «pro». En effet nous avions commandé en entrée des os à moelle, le mien arriva énorme mais vide. Devant mon mécontentement, non seulement un autre os me fut amené, mais aucun des 2 né m’a été facturé. Bravo !
