I really enjoyed my stay here for three days. They speak English but I didn’t use their concierge service at all. I found my way around Paris just fine. The rooms are very nice and modern. It forces you to insert your key in the hole for the light to turn on. Thats a smart way to keep energy controlled. The view from my hotel room was amazing!!! You have to leave your key downstairs when you head out in the morning so house cleaning can come by to fix it. I would definitely stay here again because the prices were reasonable.

This hotel is in a great location, only a few steps away from the metro and with many things to do just outside the door. The bed was uncomfortable, the TV didn’t work and it had paper thin walls. My husband and I are heavy sleepers but if you have issues with noise, beware. The staff was very friendly.

The eccentricities of this hotel are clearly forgotten when considering the location, cleanliness and overall reasonable price for the(once again) favorable location. But does housekeeping really have to ignore the red light that was turned on indicating we didn’t want to be disturbed? Even if you aren’t disturbed by housekeeping opening your door, you will hear them cleaning other rooms so this will be your natural alarm clock. It doesn’t matter if you were partying during the Fête de la Musique and desperately need sleep. Housekeeping will clean, you will hear them and so you’ll begin your day. In retrospect, the call from sleep and stirring from bed was actually beneficial for me as I was able to make the most of my time. It also aided local café business in my pursuit of coffee to stimulate my weary brain. Speria is at the footsteps of the Bastille metro and served as an ideal base to explore Paris by foot. In the immediate area you’ll find the Place des Vosges, the Marais and Rue de la Roquette. It’s about a 20 minute walk to Notre Dame. I had the continental breakfast at the hotel once and quickly realized that I was better off exploring the nearby cafes for a more relaxing, less costly and more tasty experience. If you are pressed for time the selection of pastries, cold meats and cereal will do but otherwise, explore! The lobby is fairly small and you’ll need to request a code for free wifi. A small library of books and magazines are available for reading. I did spot the ubiquitous Rick Steves guides on the shelf. If you need your luggage watched, be aware that watching means keeping it in the same room where breakfast is served but slightly off to the side. Our visit coincided with a French victory in the World Cup and an Algerian advancement to the next round. The area around Bastille was bustling with celebrants honking their car horns and singing songs of support for their teams. Once the windows were closed in our room we heard little or nothing of the revelry. The layout of the room was compact but clean. A separate toilet stall was to the left of entry, the main bed area and then a shower/sink in another small room. For two people there was sufficient space, especially since primarily just slept here. A small fridge was useful for storing fruits purchased from the nearby Sunday farmer’s market. Sometimes to enter the property one had to swipe a keycard; on other occasions the doors simply opened. The elevator was slow so taking the stairs is recommended unless you have a lot of luggage to lug. Once again, a clean room and ideal location for exploring make Speria a fine choice for a stay in Paris. You aren’t surrounded by fanny pack wearing tourists(They are all by Ile-de-la-Cite anway) when staying here resulting in a much more authentic travel experience.

I was extremely happy with my stay at Hotel Bastille Speria and I would definitely recommend it to friends! We stayed for 4 nights in July. Things I loved: * 1 block away from the Bastille Metro station. Although it’s away from the Eiffel Tower and Champs-Elysées, the Metro is much faster than the Tube(London), so it didn’t take very long to get from one end to the other. * Clean rooms, house-kept every day. Cleaner than most hotels in America. * Good sized hotel room with in-room bathrooms. Ours had separate shower and toilet, making it easy for 2 people to get ready at once.(Rather than the shower and toilet in the same place.) * Strong air conditioning. * Free Wi-Fi in the room. Moderate speed, fine for internet surfing. * Free breakfast — hard boiled eggs, croissants, toast, fruit, coffee, juice. We only had it one morning before venturing to a nearby Boulangerie. It was nice to know it was an option to have if one person wanted coffee while the other person was getting ready. * Free water! They had a filtered water dispenser available all day which we used to refill our collapsible water bottle we brought. We got a LOT of use of this and it was appreciated! * In-room refrigerators. We brought back some soda and juice to have in the room since we stayed for several days. * Front Desk people spoke English and were able to give directions and advice. * The neighborhood was nice and safe with restaurants and cafes open late. It was nice to come back to the hotel and have a few places to get a drink or a snack. Things to Consider: * The Bastille Metro station is huge! Even though the hotel is only a block away, there are several tunnels and sets of stairs you need to walk through to get to the train. Some stations have the train much closer to the entrance stairs, but this one has more walking. This is important if you have luggage! Although this location is close to the Gare de Nord Metro station for the Eurostar(~8 mins), we ended up taking a taxi back to the Eurostar station at Gare de Nord when we were leaving because we had too much luggage to lug around. There are no ramps, escalators, or elevators in the Metro stations. * The bed is about 2 feet off the ground. * When you check out and have the hotel watch your luggage for the rest of the day, they just keep it behind the desk, rather than putting it in secure area like other hotels do. This might be because they are currently remodeling their lobby? * The hotel layout has a lot of rooms facing the inner courtyard and other rooms. A little weird. * The lights and tv only turn on when a key is stuck in a reader on the wall. I think this saves energy as most people will take the key out when they leave and the lights therefore turn off rather than left on… but I wonder if they can track if you’re in the room too.
