My adventures in Paris were centered here near the Eiffel Tower, or as the French call it, Tour Eiffel, at the Hotel Segur. I stayed here for 3 nights in the heart of Paris on a recent October 2014 trip. I arrived here before the room was ready(before 1200), so I checked in and left my luggage in their luggage closet and experienced Paris before returning for the night. The check in process was interesting. I am glad that this property has personnel who speaks English, since I was an American on my 1st trip to Paris and no lick of French in me except for Bonjour and Au Revor. :-/The morning guy at the front desk asked for my ID, versus my Passport and told me to fill out a form with my information. Needless to say, I didn’t really pay for my stay until the afternoon/night guy at the desk informed me of this. I was informed that the sheet I filled out with my CC info was a «back up», in case hotel guests skips out without payment. And so, I paid for my stay with my CC and I was good to go. I actually liked the afternoon/night guy at the desk more, since he had better English than the morning guy. The hotel was not much of a hotel, considering its size, but they do charge quite a bit, considering that it was in the heart of Paris. The Hotel Eiffel Segur is located at the intersection of Rue de Garibaldi & Rue de Segur in Paris, about a mile walk from the iconic Eiffel Tower. A few bus routes cross through here, but I used route 42 to get from the hotel to Gare du Nord upon departure. I received room #10 on the first floor. In Paris, the ground floor is known as floor zero. That got my mind blown a little bit. I didn’t use the Paris metro during my stay, but used the RER«C» line, as it was the closest main thoroughfare to the hotel, that connects to the RER«B» line to CDG Paris airport. The room rates here were comparative to rooms in the USA, paying about 149/night euros, if not more. You’re in the thick of Paris, so you’re bound to pay up to stay here. The hotel Eiffel Segur was not really what I was expecting. The room itself was pretty small, smaller than a regular room at the Hyatt or a Sheraton. The ambiance of the room felt like a dormitory really, but a quaint little property. The bed was comfortable to a certain extent. I was glad to have a private shower and bathroom in the unit. Thought there may have been a shared bathroom in the hotel, but then again, its a hotel in Paris. Could’ve been a motel by US standards, but a hotel in Paris, nonetheless. The hotel has free wifi, so that was good. The hotel accepts the major credit cards, including the international ones without the chips embedded in them. One eventful incident happened on the last night of my stay, when I needed the help of the afternoon/evening guy at the front desk. It was my first time having escargot in Paris and crushed the shell with my right hand and it made a significant gash on my right thumb. So, I received a bandage and some anti sceptic. All the staff here were professional and helpful, especially with the medical issue. The overall experience here was comfortable, although the room itself was small and a little crowded, but my stay was good, nonetheless. While the accommodations were not what I had expected, this place was nearby the tourist of Paris. Overall, I would recommend this property, just because you’re in the thick of Paris and close to everything. Be prepared to find simple accommodations versus what you’ve come to expect and paid for. 3.5 stars, but rounded to 4.0 Support local! B

A very cute little hotel, literally a five-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower and close to everything else you could need in Paris. It was small and old, with a tiny, creaky lift but it still had charm and our room, though cramped, was perfect for our 4 night stay, comfortable and looked to be recently renovated. The receptionists were super friendly and helpful and for a hotel so close to the centre of Paris it was surprisingly inexpensive. Next door was a laundromat, across the road a metro station, restaurants abounded nearby and there were even supermarkets and local markets a few blocks away. While I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast at the hotel, there were several patisseries close by to stop in at for croissants.

We booked this hotel through Eurostar for a quick weekend getaway to Paris. Although it wasn’t exactly 3* as I have scored it, I have awarded it as such because it fulfilled our criteria of being decently located and reasonably priced. Good points? It was clean, located just near several metro stops, and close to the Eiffel tower, if you fancy that sort of thing. Service at reception was courteous and prompt. Also, there was a great restaurant just down the road, and if I remember the name or can find it somewhere, I’ll review it, because it was ace. Bad points? It was pretty small and had a rather unfathomable shower,(although, despite that, it was pretty powerful and pleasant). The tea/coffee tray had weird plastic cups, undoubtedly to encourage you to go for the pricey breakfast(12 euros — we didn’t try it). Although the metro makes everywhere easy to get to, the hotel isn’t exactly central, so you have to do a fair bit of changing. And there’s no lift in the hotel(and a rather steep spirally staircase) so it’s not good for anyone who’s a bit wobbly on their feet. So, it was good for a two night stay, but I doubt I’d have wanted to stay longer. It was definitely worth it for the deal we got through Eurostar.
