We booked this hotel for a weekend stay following a recommendation from a magazine. The non-refundable online-rate was 167EUR per room & night, which I found quite steep, but then this is Paris, and as with NYC for example, you should definitely pay more for a room in general to avoid surprises. Bad ones that is. A colleague at work also said that the 10th district(arrondissement) was very interesting, very eclectic and lots of good restaurants and bars. We arrived at Gare du Nord and walked to the hotel, and true to my colleagues words, bars and restaurants lined the streets — I have never seen such an abundance of choice in one area, let alone one street. The area seemed very colorful, too, in terms of nationalities living here, quite dirty and loud. We liked it, as it was so «un-parisian» — a different side of Paris we had not experienced before. Following a ten minute walk or so we arrived and were checked in by a rather unenthusiastic receptionist. Up to the room in an elevator that is not for the claustrophobic, to our standard bedroom. The bedroom itself was nice. Good colors, good bed(hard mattress, simple, clean bathroom, very little closet space though), chair and desk space, window into the courtyard. We did not experience breakfast as I like to go out for croissant and coffee in Paris. What we did experience though were the toilets on the ground floor in the breakfast area, and I do not want to relate to you what they looked like. Suffice it to say, I walked back up to our room. Wifi is free, the code is provided upon check-in, and it worked flawlessly. The receptionist upon check-out was friendly and provided advice on transportation as we were in luck and experienced a full-blown public transport strike on our last day. The area is great, with Canal St. Martin close, and I would love to return, but might look for different accommodation first before staying here again.
