It was a Saturday evening in Paris when the boyfriend and I found ourselves curbside of our hotel, awaiting the Renault Twingo and driver that would pick us up and two others and carry the five of us away 30 minutes outside the city to a birthday celebration for Olivier, a friend and fellow colleague of the BF in the States. Happy, we were, to be able to have such an adventure and to meet lovely people I won’t soon or ever forget. It was that Saturday night, eating hors d’oeuvres and warm, toasted sandwiches, drinking fifteen year old wine and sharing stories and laughter with new friends when we met Arnaud and learned of his place, La Cave Drouot. Olivier suggested to meet us our last full day in Paris for lunch and we needn’t think twice before saying yes. It goes without saying, anyone who asks me about my food experiences in Paris knows my pupils immediately dilate and I inadvertently begin to salivate. Yes, it IS that exceptional. The meal that I had at La Cave Drouot was divine. In fact… the salmon I had was the best I’ve ever had… and damnit, I’ve had fresh caught salmon from Alaska(caught by my parents, nonetheless). The chef chooses ingredients the morning of and uses only the freshest available. I started with the escargot, sautéed and served sans shells atop toasted bread and followed it with the salmon, which was cooked perfectly and had the crispiest skin… oh my, I can almost still taste it if I close my eyes tight enough to remember… there is a picture on my Unilocal profile. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere while we were there, too. We were there at the peak of lunch time and it was busy, busy and besides — we were there with friends; who could ask for more? Located in the 9th arrondissement and so close to the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur in the 18th, we decided to walk there again for one last view of the City of Light before bidding au revoir. Great meal, great view. Really — heavenly. If you are traveling to Paris or live there and are looking for somewhere new to try, I highly recommend!
