Le Départ Saint Michel

Stopped by this place for a late night bite. It was the only restaurant open at that time since when we visited it was the off season around the holidays. The location is very convenient but the food was abysmal.
We ordered two cocktails which tasted very watered down, a cheese platter which was the only upside to the meal. For our main course we ordered onion soup and 2 croque monsieur. Which was by far the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten in Paris. It was made on bland white bread and the cheese was overwhelmingly bland and soggy. It was so bad I had to smuggle it out of the restaurant and throw it away.
I would certainly never return and would suggest visiting any other café in the area.

Great not-​so-​french restaurant close to Notre Dame and La Seine.
If you are fed up with tradiitonal french food and simply want to enjoy a mix and match of American food, this is the way to go.
I esspecially recommend this place if going out with a big group, as they offer a big menu, so everyone should be able to find something according their liking.
The only ´typical´ French aspect of this restaurant is their loud singing snotty waiters.

The location of this place is convenient. Right by the RER/​Metro station and close to Notre Dame. However, I was floored with the service of this restaurant. Our waiter was originally friendly but after a while, I found he kept wanting us to order more such as drinks and desserts which we’ve said no. The service was quick initially and then it started to slow down near the end especially when we wanted to get the bill.
The food was okay. I had the escargots, and some steak and asked for medium. It was pretty much well done and the knife they had (butter knife) was not up to par which made it difficult to cut. The steak was super chewy but everything else was okay.
Time for the bill story. we got our bill. We paid with a 100 euro bill. The waiter left a few coins for us at the table at first and then went somewhere to get some cash. At first we were just going to take the change and then leave but after looking at it again — we noticed we were short change by 10 euros. The manager/​boss of the restaurant happened to have been walking around so we got his attention. We told him we were short changed and he immediately got the waiter to give us back the 10 euros. He dropped the bill at our table and left abruptly without saying anything.

Our trip to Paris was this past Christmas (2014) — we had dinner twice because of our experience. The food was exceptional and the price was reasonable given the exchange rate and the standard experience in Paris. Christmas eve we were able to get in and out with time to spare for midnight mass at Notre Dame. Christmas day we decided to repeat the performance and eat here a second time, again the food was exceptional and the service phenomenal. Our French is at best poor — this was the first place we went where we did not experience the traditional Parisian vibe — so much so that we spoke directly to the manager and told him how welcomed we felt. Le Depart will continue to be a standard visit when we come to the city of light.

Onion soup was good, the location is great to watch people walk by. Nice place to sit on a sunny day and enjoy the sights.

Pour un café très touristique et en plein centre je dis chapeau ! Nous avons été très étonné de la qualité du service et des plats de notre déjeuner !
Nous avions commandé un croque monsieur végétarien, des frites et une crêpe paysanne (lardons fûmés/​pommes de terre/​oeuf): nous nous sommes régalés! Puis en dessert nous avions pris une gauffre au sucre et une crêpe Belle Hélèné: à tomber !
Le serveur a été extrêmement sympa ! Le barman également, qui nous a gentillement proposé de nous asseoir où nous voulions (ce qui est rare pour des restaurants à succès).
A refaire ! (Par contre en terrasse, faire attention à vos sacs et vestes, vous n’êtes pas à l’abri de pickpockets !)

At first, the server seemed very diligent but it came to the point where I felt that my boyfriend and I, waited about 20 minutes in order to pay for the crepes we ate. It wasn’t very busy so no excuse there and it wasn’t our server who came to collect the payment. I wanted to try somethig different other than nutella and banana, therefore, I picked the chocolate and banana crêpe. The chocolate tasted disgusting, I don’t know what they used… but it was bitter so the bananas helped a bit in drowing out the horrible taste. This is the second crêpe place that I went to, this is one of the reasons my boyfriend and I went to France but disappointed since I have tasted better crepes in New York, Southampton, and London. I would have expected crepes to taste great in France where they originated.

Situated right across the Seine from Notre Dame Cathedral, this brasserie was a good stop for my husband and I to have dinner on a whim.
We chose to go with a pre fixe dinner menu, which included an entrée (appetizer, that is), plate (dinner), and a dessert. My husband’s salmon was well prepared and came with a delightful dill cream sauce. I opted for the Boeuf Bourguignon and thought it was good, not fantastic, but good. You really can’t beat the view and, truth be told, for where it is situated, the price was not too bad.

On my way to Notre dame, I stumbled across Le Depart. Fixed price breakfast menus… parfait! I ordered the crêpe breakfast which came with orange juice, coffee/​tea, and both bread and croissant with jam.
The food came out almost instantly; literally under five minutes! The crêpe was awesome, the croissant was light and flaky, and the Orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. The service was great too but I had to grab another waiter for my check since my first one disappeared! It was a great filling breakfast people watching and view of Notre Dame before climbing the 400 steps in Notre Dame to work it off!

The European breakfast is a pretty good deal and the croissants are buttery and flakey, they didn’t need anything on them. We stopped back in for dinner and the carbonara was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had, delicious. We’ll definitely stop in again.

We stopped in here for a quick breakfast before boarding train for day at Versailles. I had the European breakfast which consisted of a very bland omelette, bread, tiny orange juice and coffee. My wife had a crêpe.
food was bland and waiter was not friendly bordering on rude. Pass on this one.

Sun-​baked and exhausted from trying to fit two days into one, we limped into this sidewalk café mere shells of ourselves.
We only ordered drinks. Fizzy water to exact, and they were served to us beautifully with slices of lemons and ICE!!!
We sat for s good 30 minutes nursing our waters and watched the beverages go by:

Brasserie parisienne à 2 pas de ND, le long des quais où des voitures passent évidemment non stop… il y a certainement mieux dans Paris comme petit coin tranquille car là, bonjour la pollution en terrasse !
Quant aux plats, ils n’ont rien de terrible, c’est vraiment de la cuisine basique, le tout à un prix hors de propos… bonjour les brasseries «arnaque-​touristes» si célèbres à Paris… malheureusement les kids avaient faim et quand les kids ont faim, dur de chercher + loin, alors on est allés là, en connaissance de cause :)

An excellent view at the Notre-​Dame and Sainte-​Chapelle. A appetising traditional French lunch — Croque Madamme. Before leaving make sure to get a shot of coffee and one of the superb deserts to go with it.

Sitting on the corner St Michel near the river this place has an amazing view of Notre Dame and great for people watching. For late lunch/​early dinner I had the Steak AuPoiver. I’m not sure my waiter hear my order, and even though my steak was a little over cooked on one side it was still pretty tasty, I’ve made better Au Poiver sauce though. There are a few prefix menu options if you are a bit hungrier, and can handle three courses. I’d maybe come here again if there weren’t so many other places to try.

La terrasse dehors est sympathique à proximité de la fontaine St Michel.
Cependant j’aime moins me poser à l’intérieur où la décoration est fade, même si les sièges sont confortables.
J’avais commandé une crêpe paysanne (comptez entre 8 et 14 euros une crêpe), bonne mais vraiment sans plus.
Les prix sont excessifs, mais vous me direz on est dans un lieu touristique, à St Michel.
Mais bon…8E le coca, ou le soda, ou le lait ou l’eau pétillante. Oui vous avez bien lu, huit euros. Je n’ai jamais rien vu de tel, c’est limite aussi cher que de prendre une crêpe jambon fromage ce que je trouve absurde. Je n’en croyais pas mes yeux.
Le bon point a été la rapidité du service; les serveurs sont aimables.

Yes, dear friends, this is tourist central. But you’re right near the Seine, and if you’re lucky to get a window seat you might also have a view of Notre Dame.
The service is typical; slow but not annoyingly so. The prices are tourist-​inflated and are of course terrible, but if you know that going in then you won’t be shocked. I wouldn’t come here for a meal, but it’s just fine for an espresso.
One unexpected boon– they do have free wifi! So if you need to get some work done then you can more easily justify that 5 EUR price tag on the espresso you just downed in a few sips.

I was in desperate need of a coffee wandering around St Michel, so we foolishly jumped into the first busy-​looking café we could find. Big mistake.
Awful, awful coffee — acidic, bland, and grainy. This place is busy by default, not because of quality. Perhaps their food is decent, but from what I could see of dishes arriving at the tables around me, I wouldn’t bet on it. The only thing Le Départ has going for it is the view.
Take a few moments and head down one of the smaller streets for a smaller café. Your wallet, tastebuds, and sense of adventure will thank you.

Alors c’est horriblement cher (6 € 50 l’assiette de frite…), c’est ultra long pour se faire servir, mais c’est tellement bien d’avoir un endroit où aller quand tu sors de soirée et que tu as la fringale de 4, 5 ou 6 heure du mat’, qu’importe le prix, a cette heure là je bénie cet endroit d’être ouvert.
En revanche, je n’irais JAMAIS la journée, je pense que ce n’est vraiment pas le meilleur endroit où aller…

Voila déja quelques temps que j’avais envie de tester ce restaurant à Caen. C’est lors de mon dernier déplacement dans la région que j’en ai eu l’occasion. Et je vous le recommande d’ores et déja !
Bien situé à Caen, le Bistrot Basque se situe sur le port. Une terrasse exterieure couvert et chauffée (non fumeur) et une salle interieure un peu plus moderne.
Une carte qui offre pas mal de choix, des spécialités basques (espagnoles et françaises) et de bons produits. Au niveau des quantités c’est très correcte. Quelques spécialités du moments à la carte en plus, très appréciable. Bön choix de vins, et sangrria maison sympa!
Le service est agréable. Parfois un peu long, mais si l’on n’est pas pressé ça va.
Au niveau des prix ça peut grimper assez vite suivant ce que l’on prend, mais au niveau qualité prix c’est correct.

Très bien situé, le décor est sympa et les serveurs professionnels (sympathiques, même à 4h du matin !) sont un plus indéniable.
La soupe à l’oignon gratinée que j’avais commandé était très bonne quoique un peu salée. (Mais bon, question de goût après.)
C’est quand même cher (5EUR et quelques pour un café crème) mais bon, c’est Paris, c’est Saint-​Michel et c’est ouvert 24/​24h.

Certes ce café reste ouvert toute la nuit et ce tous les jours de la semaine, mais cela n’explique pas les serveurs que l’on dérange presque en venant. Aucune amabilité, ils né sont pas disponibles pour leurs clients. Heureusement que les plats et consommations arrivent rapidement pour partir au plus vite !
Sinon c’est cher mais bon voyez l’emplacement et l’ouverture en non-​stop, et pas toujours génial.

Il faudrait des grandes pancartes dans la ville pour prévenir les touristes des endroits où ils risquent de se faire pigeonner.

Gare au serveur !
Donnant sur les bords de la Seine, et tout près de Notre Dame, cette adresse, juste à l’entrée du Métro Saint Michel, peut s’avérer plaisante. Une carte variée, et bien mise en valeur dans l’assiette. Malheureusement, le tout vous est apporté par un serveur grincheux, qui semble n’atendre qu’une chose, que vous quittiez au plus tôt l’établissement. Dommage, car la cuisine mérite mieux que ce service quasiment irrespectueux de la clientèle.

Service wasn’t too great… they took a long time to take our order and take our bill… but at least our waiter was funny. With my broken French, I asked if he spoke English, and in English he responded with some sarcastic comment, which is a nice/​funny way to welcome me to Paris!
Went here for breakfast twice… first time, I got a dessert crêpe that had almonds and bananas in it, and to be honest, it’s not worth it. Not enough flavor, too much whipped cream. Second day I went, I got the Croque Madame, and this seemed to be a pretty authentic French breakfast, in my opinion. It was delicious. The ham, the cheese, the egg on top… everything just melted in your mouth perfectly.
Conveniently located near Fontaine Saint-​Michel, where our tour group was leaving from.
I’d definitely go here again!

— Menu à 17EUR50 qui n’est qu’un menu gros pigeon de touriste comme partout dans St Michel (mais je m’attendais à mieux pour ce resto là justement). steak servi avec des frites pas cuites, une sauce au poivre dont la recette a du être piqué au Flunch, et une salade avec trop de vinaigrette inutile surtout quand en entrée on vient de prendre une salade également !
— Le menu était à 16EUR50 avant, c’est la baisse de la TVA qui fait que ça augmente c’est ça? Elle était censée favoriser l’embauche, ils auraient pu en profiter pour mettre des femmes parce que des hommes partout ça fait vraiment vieux resto des années 70.
— Coca à 6EUR10, plus cher que sur les Champs non ?
— Toilettes vraiment limite. C’est pas que c’est sale (même si un peu quand même) mais c’est moche et quand on fait ses besoins dans les urinoires, on reçoit le jet dans les mains c’est agréable ! (ou pas)
— Bön et le meilleur pour la fin. On était 15 pour un anniversaire. Donc ils prévoyent un gâteau (que c’est gentil)… l’addition tombe … 60EUR le gâteau =) merci beaucoup la prochaine fois je passerai à Ladurée l’acheter si ça vous dérange pas parce qu’il avait vraiment vraiment rien d’exceptionnel.

Service correct, les prix sont un peu élevés mais expliqués par la situation du café. Disposant d’une grande terrasse chauffée, l’établissement né ferme jamais et c’est très agréable. On regrettera le fait que la terrasse se transforme en refuge pour les recalés des clubs alentours le week-​end, et donc que l’atmosphère soit un peu tendue ces soirs-​là. Mais c’est un détail, et le lieu reste un must.

Une envie de manger a 4h du matin c’est possible car le départ est ouvert 7 jours sur 7 et 24h sur 24h donc n’hésiter pas si vous êtes sur Paris

Ah non, je n’aime point du tout. Enorme machine à touristes, je trouve que cela fait partie de ce qui rend Paris détestable à mes yeux. Prétentieux, à l’angle des quais et face à la Place Saint Michel, c’est de l’élevage en batterie: service pas sympa, café pas bon, menu de snack ni parigot ni touristos ou plutôt un peu les deux, et cher, cher, cher…
Terrasse sous le nez des voitures et des bus avec un beau feu rouge pour bien faire ronfler les pots d’échappements dans le nez des clients…

Une bonne surprise dans un quartier aussi touristique. Service très aimable et prévenant.
Large choix de petits plats (salades, tartines, quiches, croques…), bonne qualité, parfois un peu cher.

Voici un café ouvert en continu, situé près du métro Saint Michel et du bord de la Seine. En été, l’idéal est de s’installer en terrasse pour profiter de la vue soi celle de la Seine, soi celle de la place Saint-​Michel qui est assez animée.
Étant étudiante pas très loin et appréciant ce quartier animé, j’y suis allée plusieurs fois.
J’ai pu y apprécier avec des amis: un chocolat chaud et un délicieux milk shake dont je me souviens encore. Je me rappelle que la carte des glaces proposée par Le Départ Saint-​Michel m’avait mis l’eau à la bouche.
Idéal pour boire un verre, se reposer après une longue promenade, profiter de la vue, déguster une glacé.

Un café très agréable pour une terrasse parisienne. Situé en face de la fontaine de St Michel et de Notre Dame, un service irréprochable, mais les prix de la carte sont plus des attrapes touristes. Le café est à 5 6 euros, et les cocktails à 13 euros.
