Excellent food and service.
The duck confit was perfect. The potatoes — delicious. Salad so-​so. The veal was good, and the sauce with it amazing.
Very nice waiters who will speak English without scowling.
Now, the highlight: the Tarte Tatin, served with a little Crème Fraiche.
We go back tonight.

Très sympa pour un verre avant le diner. Mais il faut se mettre au bar, accoudé au zinc avec un verre, et plein de choses à raconter. Ici, l’ambiance dépend un peu de ceux qui sont au bar (qui prend toute la place de toute façon). Pas de cocktails élaborés sur fond de Nicolas Jaar. Un vieux bar, classique mais avec beaucoup de charme. (On peut y manger dans l’arrière salle)

Great lunch spot to stop for a glass of wine and a duck confit. Don’t do a dinner lunch only — food is great and considering paris pricing it’s a great value

Great bistro to have an awesome duck confit if you are shopping in the le marais area.
We ordered one duck confit originally but upon seeing the other table’s plates, we put in an order for another. It was the best decision ever!
The dish is without a doubt, the best version of duck (canard) confit that we have tried this trip. The skin is crisp and oil-​free, the meat is moist and succulent inside. Even the potato that it was served with is perfect.
We also ordered beef tartare which we didn’t like. The tatare came in a DIY manner and it looked like it came straight from the butcher. Not appetizing at all. I definitely had better ones elsewhere.
The restaurant is charmingly small. It looks like it has not ever been renovated and came complete with a horseshoe bar counter, old school telephone booth and even a toilet (squat type) that probably has not existed in the western world for decades.
For the confit, I would return. It also helps that the le Marais neighborhood is totally charming.

I love this teeny tiny bistro in the heart of the Marais.
The interior space is super charming (the décor looks like it hasn’t changed in forever and the bar in the middle of the place is a slab of marble in the shape of a horseshoe) and it’s great people watching if you can get a seat outside. The food is simple but the ingredients are fresh and the barman is incredibly jovial which makes the service not only fast but friendly as well.
Really this is a great little spot for casual eats or just a glass of wine. I come back here every time I’m in Paris and in the neighborhood and it never disappoints.

Typical French brasserie/​bistro (never sure of the difference theses days between the 2). Don’t think though you have found a hidden gem. In the back dining area there were 4 tables of young Koreans. Each table ordered the same 2 dishes so they must be recommended in Korean guides.
My plat du jour, aiguillettes de canard au miel avec gratin dauphinois et dès de courgettes (duck tenderloins with honey and potato bake + diced zucchini) was accompanied by a delicious sauce and copious. My only complaint was that the duck was slightly on the tough, dry side.
Service was efficient and friendly. It appeared though that Korean customers had to wait longer to place their orders once they had made up their minds regarding dishes. Orders in French were quickly taken by the one waiter who took care of all tables in the dining room.
I would definitely eat here again in this cosy bistro but wouldn’t necessarily cross Paris seeking it out. Would love to sit out on the terrace and have a glass of wine when Paris rediscovers sunny weather.

We made dinner reservations and were seated promptly at a table in the back. The waiter was friendly and the food was very good. They speak enough English to explain the menu and we would definitely go back as everyone enjoyed their food.

I’m disappointed. The waiter was nice but they served a rotten entrecôte (steak). :/​It is difficult to believe they were not aware. Bad choice. I don’t recommend it.

We came here one night and we loved this small quaint place in the Marais. The staff is incredibly friendly and even prevented me from ordering sausage that was prepared a unique way– suggesting the duck instead. Thankfully I listened to his recommendation as the duck was crispy and perfectly prepared.
It also seems to be a favorite spot for locals to come have a mojito… who knew mojitos were so popular in Paris… great bar!

Sadly I did not realize there was a place to eat inside, but I was warmly offered a seat outside where I sipped a very interesting Irish Coffee, that instead of whipped cream had whipped crème fraîche on top. I’d definitely go back, this was an awesome neighborhood. Also apparently this place was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s Layover Paris edition.

My standard go-​to restaurant in the Marais. Always fantastic duck and beef. Get the half litre of house wine and sit outside on a sunny day. A distinctively Parisian people-​watching experience. Cheerful staff which is kind of hard to find in this city. Pricey so I wouldn’t recommend for everyday.

Great and authentic Parisian food. Adding to my top 10 list for future visit. Weird toilets though…

Ambiance:
–Gorgeously retro Parisian — there is a handful of tiny tables with chairs facing onto the bustling Marais neighbourhood street, the rustic marble bar for nursing a coffee or glass of wine, and a surprisingly spacious dimly lit dining room in the back
–The walls feature vintage posters and massive warped mirrors upon which the specials of the day are written
–Assuming you’re interested in the front of the house seating, it’s going to be fairly tight so definitely try to travel light (that is, do your shopping spree after lunch)
–We grabbed a people-​watching seat outside and enjoyed watching Parisian life
Service:
— English-​friendly and cheerful — our server happily translated the menu for us and made suggestions based on the local specialties
— Food and drinks arrive quite quick, making this an ideal spot to grab a quick bite and relax your feet briefly while on the go
Drinks:
–Wine, beer, cocktails, coffee — whatever suits your fancy you can have. For us, on a hot day, it was an ice cold glass bottle of pop
–Caution: don’t drink too much here if you’re someone with a notoriously small bladder (me). The toilet is classic Parisian style — that is, there is a hole in the ground within which you must carefully straddle. I held it.
Food:
–Simple French Bistro food but fresh and of good value
–Here you can find a variety of salads, sandwiches, snacks, and full meat-​centric meals with steak and duck.
Ham, Cheese & Vegetables on Baguette (€ 4.50)
Satisfying and simple– maybe the bread to meat ratio was a little carby for me, but it seems like this is standard.
Salade au Petit Fer a Cheval (Proscuitto, Duck, Melon, Apples, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Mushrooms, Lettuce, Toast and Warm Chevre, € 14)
Woah– what a sexy salad. You tuck into this and you surely won’t go nibbling an hour later. While the combination of apples with tomatoes, cucumber, and lettuce in a creamy French dressing seemed a bit strange at first, I fell in love after a few bites. Maybe I was just craving fresh flavours after so much pastry and foie gras, but I loved this salad.

The only bad dining experience I had in Paris. The service was inept, which stood in marked contrast to the great service we’d experienced almost everywhere else. The menu was laid out strangely, and then, once I’d clarified exactly what I wanted (a sandwich), I received the wrong thing (a meat platter.)
The soup was very good, as were my friends’ meals.
The dining area is completely hidden behind the bar, so you’ll have to squeeze through to find it.
All in all, a poor end-​of-​trip experience.

Elegant et original! Les viandes très bien preparées et les accompagnements bien assortis! Il faut y aller une deuxième fois.

The Paris I met while traveling alone in late-​October was exhilarating, rainy, more romantic than I had dreamt, and quite challenging — as it turns out, 4 years of high school+ 5 semesters of college French don’t get you very far if you’ve done little to maintain it. Still, a fearless me struck up conversations anywhere I could — at numerous cafés, the cemetery (there’s a story there:
), and at the charming Le Petit Fer à Cheval.
Walking by this bar on a lively stretch near my rental flat in the Marais, I caught a glimpse of a picture I wanted to be in — a little horseshoe-​shaped bar surrounded by Parisians in their effortlessly cool ensembles, drinking and laughing and reading. Seating is scarce so don’t be surprised when you spy the impossibly handsome well-​sweatered stranger standing toward the bar intently reading his book whilst drinking a glass of red wine. 1.5 hours later? Still standing; still reading.
I didn’t chat up the stranger, but I made several new friends that cold, rainy night… we drank champagne, spoke more English than French, and talked about the upcoming election (ours). Le Petit Fer à Cheval is where you’ll find the real Paris, along with the people who know her and love her.

Très bon café parisien. Nous l’avons découvert par hasard avec mon amie et y avons bu un chocolat chaud. Il fut merveilleux, préparé avec du vrai chocolat fondu et servi avec une petite dose de lait. Un vrai régal.
En ce qui concerne la nourriture nous n’avons rien mangé, mais au vu des plats servis à nos voisins, ça avait l’air délicieux.
Une remarque importante cependant: il n’y a que des toilettes à la turque. Ce n’est déjà pas rigolo pour un homme, alors je n’ose même pas imaginer pour une femme…

Certes, l’endroit n’a rien d’exceptionnel. Dans n’importe quel autre quartier de Paris, je né prendrai même pas la peine de le mentionner. Mais voilà, nous sommes dans le Marais, quartier où «restaurateur» semble rimer avec «arnaqueur».
Au Petit Fer à Cheval au moins, je suis sûre de mon coup: sélection de vins sympas dont pas mal sont proposés au pichet, petite restauration pas donnée mais les produits sont de qualité (j’ai personnellement un faible pour leur sandwich au poulet avec du vrai poulet et sans mayonnaise industrielle infecte). Et puis il y a le cadre, ce joli zinc en forme de fer à cheval et cette micro-​terrasse donnant sur la rue Vieille du Temple. Alors oui, c’est un poil cher (enfin, pas pour le quartier) et le serveur pourrait sourire plus souvent, mais on oublie vite ces inconvénients.

I’m only reviewing/​recommending my favorite places (5-​stars) and this is at the top of my Paris list. The name is actually Au Petit Fer a Cheval, AT the Little Horeshoe, referring to the shape of the marble bar in the front. This is the most iconic little café in Paris, and I’ve spent a lot of time looking, The salon in back seats maybe 20 people, but somehow we always manage to find a table – reservations are definitely recommended. The food is fabulous, it’s a young friendly crowd; you will have a memorable meal. The bathroom is a must visit – all of Xavier Denamur’s several restaurants on the street have unusual bathrooms worth visiting, but this one is the most unusual, maybe because of the size constraints. to check them all out.) It’s great for a first Paris breakfast, while you’re waiting for the hotel to get your room ready, or for an afternoon glass of wine or hot chocolate.

Was staying just down the block and came here for my last dinner in Paris. I had the vegetarian salad– very fresh, substantial portion and lots of cheese! My husband had a steak with potato medallions and beautiful julienned vegetables. All delicious as well! Dinner for two and drinks for less than $ 50. We sat in the back dining room and the chef called out and asked how the food was. Great service, wonderful French fare. Would send others there in a minute!

J’ai attiré totalement par hasard dans ce bar, et autant la terrasse était sympa, autant les prix l’étaient beaucoup moins. Enfin, j’ai connu bien mieux.

A part en semaine, trop petit dedans pourm’y sentir à l’aise. Donc, terrasse. Le pb c’est qu’entre l’étroitesse de la rue, le flot dense de piétons, le parking à vélos qui ronge le peu de trottoir qui reste et le garçon qui bouche le dernier espace libre pour passer c’est assez déplaisant comme point de vue.

Un petit bistro de grande qualité
Trois ans que je suis habituée des lieux mais il faut dire que ça faisait un moment que je n’y avait pas mis les pieds, contrairement à certaines périodes où j’étais au p’tit fer tous les deux jours ! Donc comme d’habitude, super accueil, excellent service, assiette de qualité… tout se passé très bien, c’est d’ailleurs pour cela qu’on y retourne. Côté assiette, j’ai vraiment un faible pour leur tartare ainsi que le mignon de veau, mais il fait aussi bon de s’arrêter pour une bonne planche de fromages ou une tranche de foie gras accompagnée d’un verre de vin. Cependant la star de la carte reste la tarte tatin. A mes yeux la meilleure de paris. elle a d’ailleurs tellement de succès qu’il n’en reste souvent plus en fin de journée ! Outré la carte, c’est vraiment l’ambiance de ce lieu qui est la grande force de ce petit bistro. le charme du comptoir en forme de fer à cheval et l’accueil du staff font de cet endroit, un endroit ou on se sent bien. Il faut noter que c’est l’un des rares endroits où la cuisine est ouverte jusqu’à 1h15 du matin, ce qui est très appréciable. Cependant, ça faisait un moment que je n’y étais pas retournée car il y a tout de même un petit bémol. les prix ont récemment augmenté alors qu’ils étaient déjà assez élevés auparavant. pourtant la carte né change pas, elle n’a pas bougée d’un iota en trois ans, donc au bout d’un moment on se lasse et on comprend pas pourquoi on paye aussi cher, pour une assiette qui est de qualité certes, mais qui reste une assiette de bistro. Enfin, personnellement je né comprends pas trop la croisade médiatique dans laquelle s’est lancée le patron (les philosophes, la belle hortense, la chaise au plafond, l’étoile manquante). il propose du fait maison, tant mieux. mais je préfère les gens qui brillent parce qu’ils font les choses bien, pas parce qu’ils dénoncent les autres à la télévision. En bref, j’y retournerai, pour sûr. Mais peut être un peu moins qu’avant.

Hyper décevant
Le bistrot promettait des merveilles de cuisine bien faite, et il a finalement fallu 30 minutes d’attente pour obtenir une entrecôte mal cuite, baignant dans un beurre à l’ail que je n’avais pas demandé et qui gâchait tout le goût éventuel de la viande. La déco, habituelle de ce genre de bistrot, ambiance tamisée et tables adjacentes est plutôt agréable. Mais le brouhaha incessant rend le repas pénible. Donc tête comme une pastèque et papilles en berne, je né reviendrai pas et né recommanderai certainement pas ce bistrot bien trop cher pour ce qu’il est.

We met a typical NYC woman with her Parisian boyfriend on a street in Marais and were directed here. Here or Perle were the options. We loved our meal here. The duck confit was fried to crisp perfection. The salad was full of amazing cheese. The bar in the front was magical. Oh, and the bread… ohlala. Really great service. Weird bathroom — women have to squat. All in all though super.

Petit bistro french avec son comptoir en forme de fer à cheval et qui contient une petite arrière salle. J’ai opté pour une salade au magret de canard et chèvre. Bonne quantité, se suffit à elle même pour un plat par contre j’ai été déçue par la qualité du chèvre qui était presque sans goût, moi qui raffole de fromage notamment de chèvre, celui-​ci m’a déçue, je me suis même forcée la saler pour en faire ressortir une saveur.
J’ai trouvé les plats assez chers, compter une vingtaine d’eurosminimum mais le prix de la salade à 14 € était plutôt raisonnable!

Le Petit Fer à Cheval est un minuscule et charmant bar dans ce quartier devenu très touristique. En entrant on comprend pourquoi ce bar est nommé ainsi: un comptoir en forme de U (ou de fer à cheval) trôné en plein milieu du bar et n’a donc rien à voir avec le Rhinolophus hipposideros.
Ce design étonnant représente un certain avantage pour communiquer entre clients.
Le Petit Fer créé au début du siècle (du XXeme !) semble être hors du temps: on a l’impression que rien n’a changé depuis cent ans ! on peut y remarquer entre autre, la très jolie mosaïque du sol, le comptoir en bois et en pierre. l’horloge de gare (qui marche parfaitement), une affiche du film La Jument Verte, qui fut interdit au moins de 21 ans à sa sortie en 1959 et dans un coin accroché au mur, un vieux téléphone en anhydrure de polyoxybenzylméthylèneglycol noir.
Derrière le bar on accède à une petite salle pour se restaurer. Il y a également quelques tables sur le trottoir.
Aujourd’hui le Petit fer à Cheval appartient au même propriétaire que le café Hortense, juste en face.

All my secrets…
This is more or less my ‘stop in and have a drink’… «or two» place. Here, there is the most amazing horseshoe bar. It is soft brown marble — quite small but large enough. It has been here forever and seen thousands of elbows. It is, an old standard that never gets old.

Grosse déception! J’ai testé la salade végétarienne à 12 euros à base de fromage et d’avocat, et j’ai eu du mal à m’en remettre! J’ai eu l’impression qu’on privilégiait la quantité à la qualité! Le tout était certes copieux et bien présenté mais pas d’assaisonnement et rien de vraiment raffiné! Peut-​être était-​ce juste un mauvais choix. Je reconnais toutefois que les produits étaient de qualité! Mais le tout faisait plus penser à du gavage qu’à une vraie dégustation
Point positif: les desserts, notamment la crême brulée et la tarte tatin, ont une bonne tête et donnent clairement envie!
Par ailleurs, l’enseigne a du charme et le patron est accueillant! Une authentique brasserie parisienne!

Nettes, sehr kleines Lokal mit kleinem Speiseraum abgetrennt hinter der Theke. Wir kamen ohne Anmeldung, der Laden war voll, aber nach fünf Minuten hat uns der Kellner einen Tisch für zwei gegeben und sich entschuldigt dass es so lange gedauert hat.
Nachdem der Zweiertisch so ungünstig stand, dass ich den Weg zur Küche versperrte, durfte ich mich an den leeren Zweiertisch daneben setzen.
Das Essen war flott bestellt die Essenkarte ist sehr übersichtlich und nur auf französisch die Bestellung wurde auch schnell zubereitet. Thunfischsteak und Entrecôte. Ersteres war toll, zweiteres war leider etwas durchsetzt, was den Genuss etwas störte.
Abschliessend noch einen Kaffee und ein Stück Limettenkäsekuchen, womit das Restaurant den vierten Stern doch verdient hat.

Das ist Paris wie man es liebt. Es gibt nichts Schöneres als im Herzen des Marais im ‘kleinen Hufeisen’ einen Kir zu trinken und das quirlige Leben in den Strassen zu beobachten. Ohne sich die Füsse wund zu laufen zieht ganz Paris an einem vorbei. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Das Au Petit Fer à Cheval war uns empfohlen worden, als wir mit einem in Paris lebenden Fotografen zufällig ins Gespräch kamen.
Es war ein guter Tip. Wir waren mittags bzw. frühen nachmittag da und bekamen noch um 14:30 die Plat du jour, die sehr lecker war! Als Nachtisch empfehle ich die Crème Brulée. Und der Kellner und der Koch waren supernett und konnten gut mit unseren bruchstückhaften Sprachkenntnisen umgehen. Das hatten wir schon ganz anders erlebt.

Une adresse authentique comme on en voit de moins en moins, et qu’on adopte très vite.
Au coeur du Marais, c’est un café restaurant très agréable, avec un service top.
Je n’y ai pas encore mangé mais c’est dans mes intentions.
Les toilettes viennent tout droit du futur, à essayer absolument !

S’il est en effet un peu trop publié dans les guides touristiques, ce micro café reste une halte obligée (je modifie souvent mes itinéraires pour pouvoir m’y arrêter).
Il n’y a en fait que 4 tables en terrasse, mais prendre un café au zinc en forme de fer à cheval a tout autant de charme.

Que dire de plus?

Un endroit prisé dans le quartier branché du Marais. Il faut attendre un petit moment pour pouvoir s’assoir en terrasse car les chaises sont la plupart du temps déjà occupées. Le petit fer à cheval est fréquenté par de nombreux touristes par les habitants du quartier qui aiment bien le côté café parisien classique avec sa déco un peu ancienne, de nombreux tableaux qui ornent les murs.
On s’y retrouve pour discuter, boire un verre à l’heure de l’apéro et pourquoi accompagner le tout d’un petit plateau de charcuterie et/​ou de fromage si on a un petit creux.

Le petit fer à cheval est la première addresse du Xavier. Le roi du Marais, il est aussi patron des quatre cafés le plus connus dans le coin: Les Philosophes, L’Étoile Manquant, La Chaise au Plafond et La Belle Hortense.
Pour moi, il n y a pas photo. Le Petit Fer est le meilleur de tous. Le plus ancien, le plus minuscule, le plus mignon, le plus authentique, je l’adore tellement que j’ai du mal à me contenter ailleurs.
Qui est très dommage pour moi car il n’y a que 10 place sur le terrasse et c’est toujours rempli. Mais, il faut patienter pour les bons choses, et vous pouvez toujours faire un tour dans le coin, ou prendre un verre dedans en attendent.
Moi, j’adore prendre mon apéro la bas. Le pichet de vin du moi est toujours un bon choix. Faut espérer qu’ils vous donnent les délicieux morceaux de tortillas chaud à grignoter aussi.
Si les pichets enchaînent et vous vous trouver mordre de faim et trop faignant à partir, les plats sont corrects, donc n’hésitez pas a manger sur place.

One of our favorite bars in the Marais. The name (Little Horseshoe Bar in English) comes from the shape of the bar and the size of the place. They have eight cramped seats outside, but the best place to sit is at the Parisian retro bar. They also serve food in the tiny restaurant in back, but we have never eaten here. The wine list is good, if not great, our «usual» being a bottle of the house Morgon.
The last time we were here, on a bitterly cold night in late December, the song «Crazy» by Gnarls Barkley came on the radio. The bartender cranked up the volume, and the mostly French clientele burst out singing along at the tops of their lungs. It was a show of sponteneity you don’t normally expect to see in Paris.
A fun, friendly, very crowded place.

un ambiente muy bueno, puedes cenar y leer un comic de los muchos que hay a la mano. aunque su especialidad es la hamburguesa de caballo y sino lo sabes (como yo) y despues de comertela te enteras no hace mucha gracia

Meine Empfehlung: Tartar.

Super Bar für einen Absacker. Die Bar besteht praktisch gänzlich auf einem zum Hufeisen geformte n Tresen. Deswegen wohl auch der Name. Es ist knautschelig eng. Die Bedienung ist auf Zack.
Im hinteren Teil liegt dann noch ein Restaurant mit jüdischer Küche. …habe ich allerdings nicht getestet.
