Absolutely thrilled by the service and quality of this luxury helmet manufacturer. First — let’s talk about the shop. Beautiful. Sleek metal and beautiful helmets everywhere. I was a little off put by the fact that it was locked during business hours — but maybe that’s just their modus operandi. Second — let’s talk about the product. An absolutely luxurious helmet that will cost at least one arm and probably most of another leg. The interior of the helmet is comprised of lamb leather from Napa. The exterior is a painted carbon fiber shell. The style can be termed as «retro futuristic». When my wife and I go on vacations we like to purchase a piece of art from to bring home and remind ourselves of the good times. I was, surprisingly, able to convince my wife a helmet from Ruby can be classified as our art selection from Paris. A short walk from our Paris apartment we managed to find the store on a snowy afternoon. We walked by the door — there’s no awning and very little signage — trust your GPS to know when you’re there and scan around to find it. Once in the store the sales person was happy(as happy as Parisian sales people can be) to assist me in trying on a few helmets to see what might fit and I settled on a XXL Belvedere. Other than the obvious benefit of being able to try one one, there are two great bonuses to purchasing a helmet directly at this retail store as opposed to the online experience. The first is that you can select a European safety spec helmet. The Euro spec for helmet safety is better than the American DOT spec AND lets Ruby produce a slightly smaller/lighter helmet — if you order online you’re forced to get the American spec by customs shipping rules. Secondly you can order an exclusive color(«Hérold») only available from the store — a bright ruby color that really makes these helmets pop. Quick tip on the European spec ordering — I ended up having to have them ship me the helmet(as they didn’t have the color/size in stock) and it did get held up in American customs because it wasn’t DOT. I told the customs officer the helmet was a piece of artwork and I wasn’t going to ride it on the road and they passed it through(and actually I might’ve saved some other people some grief as the customs person told me they had a shipment of 50+ and he just reclassified them all as artwork).
