A bit hard to find, this small museum fills in some gaps in French history. Dedicated to two individuals important to French resistance in WW2, Jean Moulin and Marshal LeClerc, it covers both the Resistance inside France and the Free French forces outside it. Mainly pictures and documents, with some videos, it gives an overview of events and personalities, and particularly the lives of these two French heroes. An upstairs gallery has a bit more on the Resistance in general. Staff spoke little English, and there’s some on the captions but not enough for the average English-speaking visitor. I know some French but still had trouble getting any detail from the captions. The only directions I could get were«it’s on top of the Montparnasse station.» Indeed it is– but I saw no signage in the station for it. I kept going up, and finally got outside sort of behind the station(wondering at some points if I was allowed to be where I was– it looked like an office building.) There I found signage and the museum.

A free museum of the French Resistance on top of the Gare De Montparnasse. Sounds better than it is. It’s interesting and definitely worth a visit if you have time while waiting for your train with an interesting timeline of the resistance and of Jean Moulin’s involvement. There are two sides to the museum– resistance inside, and outside of France. It’s mostly photographs and some documents and films and uniforms— info is in French and in English. But somehow it’s not presented well and we wound up wandering around and being somewhat informed by it and somewhat disappointed. The park on top of the Gare Montparnasse was cool, with very nice tennis courts there. A much better free museum in the neighborhood was the beautiful Musee Bourdelle. .
