Novotel Paris Gare de Lyon

We booked a room in this hotel for 10 days. We were attracted to it by its French rating (4 stars), its proximity to transportation, the pool and the price offered via Expedia.
THE STAFF: Everyone at the front desk staff was extremely helpful. For example, Alexandra went out of her way to get us an affordable room for a one-​night side trip to Amsterdam. Our attempts were interrupted by a credit card authorization hitch. But, she finished the job with a smile even though Novotel had no vacancies in Amsterdam. They also provided an excellent shaving kit and electrical plug adapters for no extra charge. All four of the people that helped us were patient, thoughtful and spoke English very well.
THE ROOM: very clean with a modern décor. The sheets were crisp and cotton. complementary terry cloth bathrobes were provided. The bathroom shower had a glass wall making the room seem bigger while providing a good view of your honey from the bed. There was no pay-​per-​view, but we didn’t go to Paris to watch movies. You can’t open the window, but the fan is reasonably quiet.
LOCATION: the immediate surroundings of the hotel are not attractive. But, the proximity to Gare de Leon made it very easy to get to Charles de Gaul airport for an early morning flight: just had to catch the RER D train and transfer to to B at Gare du Nord. We also found the one of our favorite neighborhoods: the Asian section near the Pyramids Metro station was just a couple of stops away on the very fast Metro 14 line.
THE POOL: a few things didn’t work as they should in the men“s locker room: the dead bolt on the toilet stall was frozen closed so that the door couldn’t be closed. The dual toilet flush buttons did not activate unless you pushed them both down and held them. The sliding shower door would not stay shut. The hand rail for the steps at the deep end of the pool was loose at its base. If it weren’t for the malfunctioning hardware around the pool, I’d have given this Novotel 5 stars. The water was clean and did not seem overly chlorinated. It’s good that it is always open, because you won’t want to share it with someone else’s kids.
THE PRICE: excellent value. It’s so easy to overpay in Paris.

Buyer Beware! Convenient, maybe, but this hotel location is in such a sketchy area!
I wish this was fiction, but you can’t make this stuff up…
The hotel is right off the train station down a dark alley. The first night, there were 2 people sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the hotel and some people begging. The next morning, no joke, there was a homeless man looking at a porno magazine in broad daylight next to the hotel. The next day, there was a guy passed out in the alley with puke around him.
So disgusting and not a welcome sight coming home or leaving. The whole area around the hotel feels gross and incredibly unsafe. I saw several sketchy people use the lobby as a walk-​through zone as well.
Staff was both pleasant and rude, depending on who you talked to. Room was nice, but we were in one of the bigger ones. Pool is small, we did not get breakfast. All in all, I would absolutely avoid, especially if you have kids, and find a hotel in a nicer area further from the smell of urine.

As this is my first visit to Paris, I have little by which to judge this hotel but my experiences elsewhere.
A big plus for this location is its proximity to the RER rail line coming from CDG airport.
The place is neat and clean. The rooms are on the smallish side, but all you need is there.
The staff are quite helpful. I am amazed at how well they communicate in Engish.

Super emplacement à 2 pas de la gare du nord et du métro ligne 1.
Plus de chambres fumeurs depuis quelques mois à l’exception de certaines chambres exécutives avec terrasse.

de passage a cet hôtel pour une réunion: service correct mais salles pas très bien agencées. Repas plutôt bon.

standard novotel, direkt am bahnhof. nur mercure ist naeher an den gleisen und lauter. sehr netter, professioneller empfang (nicht selbstverstaendlich in der preisklasse). aufgeraeumt sauberer eindruck, aber alles eher ibis standard, insbesondere raumschiff-​plastikbad und wc. wie né angedockte kapsel. also klassisches vertreter– und bahnhofgestrandeten hotel. zu zweit stell ich mir das hier eher etwas unpassend vor.

L’hôtel est une bonne étape pour un séjour professionnel, mais que je né recomanderais pas pour un séjour touristique ou en amoureux, car il est assez impersonnel. La gare de Lyon est à deux pas. Les chambres sont spacieuses, bien isolées, le personnel souriant et disponible. Le petit déjeuner sous forme de buffet est bien achallandé, et globalement de bonne qualité (sauf les gauffres !). On y trouve une piscine et une salle de sport. Le Wifi est offert. Au plan des points négatifs, on notera la mauvaise qualité de la salle de bain, qui est une salle de bain encastrée tout-​en-​un, et la faible qualité de la TV.

Gut gelegenes und sauberes Hotel mit guter Metro-​Verbindung; mit Schwimmbad, schöné Zimmer und leckeres Frühstück mit Buffett und (Frankreichuntypisch) großer Auswahl! Empfehlenswert, es gibt zwar sicher stylishere oder romantischere Hotels, aber das Preis-​Leistungsverhältnis ist perfekt!

Un peu plus de béton à Paris !
Effectivement bien situé aux abords de la gare de Lyon, le Novotel gare de Lyon auraient pu se différencier un peu en terme de conception et de décoration, pour que l’on puisse avoir une impression de dépaysement lorsque l’on y rentre. Et bien non. Quand vous rentrez dedans, vous né voyez que du béton. Aucun autre revêtement sur les murs, tout a été laissé sur le brut, façon chantier inachevé. Les quelques éléments de déco né suffisent pas à briser cet impression de froid, alors que lorsqu’on va dans un hôtel, on cherche généralement un lieu agréable, chaud et rassurant, un lieu où l’on se sent bien. Ca n’a pas été mon ressenti avec celui-​ci. Le bar par contre, tranche complétement. Il a un esprit plus pub anglais mais confortable et cosy. Pour les chambres, ce sont des chambres standardisées «Novotel», spacieuses, confortable et fonctionnelles. La piscine elle aussi est froide. Manqué de déco et de chaleur dans cet espace qui ressemble plus à une piscine de maison médicalisée ! c’est domage car il n’y a pas tant d’hôtels que ça qui ont la chance à Paris d’avoir une grande piscine couverte. Voilà, mon sentiment de déception mais les goûts et les couleurs…
