The Long Hop

An American pub, which is like an English or Irish pub, but with less old furniture and an American Flag flying out front (quite ballsy, these days). The staff was all from England and I found that I could drop the Je Voudray Bierre, sil’vou plait, pretty quick. The porch has an overhang and some heaters, so it was nice to sit and watch the street while having a good old pint of Guinness. They had a DJ night, but everyone was glued to the screens watching the football (association, not gridiron), so I didn’t see the point of them blaring music, but I didn’t mind it. The crowd was very easy going and while busy, service was on the spot. So give me stool, a fresh pint, a good breeze and the world can go to hell on it’s own for a little while. I’m sure I’ll get up after a while and help sort things outs later, but right now, let’s just relax. The Long Hop is a good place to do just that.

I went on a Tuesday night, obviously not the most popular choice but it was pretty slow, just a couple of small groups. I sat at the bar and had a beer, the bartender was fine. It’s nothing spectacular, but the plus side being I didn’t have to butcher the French language for an hour at a French bar.

From the outside, the Long Hop looks like a rather large but unassuming French bar. Don’t let appearances deceive you. The Long Hop is the two-​story party space and bar that every American fraternity house wishes it could have. There are wide screen TVs, a beer pong table and a pool table, and dozens of tables in every configuration conceivable (as well as super comfy couches and little armchairs!).
The drinks are about average price for Paris. Beer is still the best value (7 €/​pint), but simple mixed drinks are only 1 to 1,5 € more. If you’re nice to the bartenders (who all speak great English and smile a lot), they give pretty decent pours.
We came here with a group of maybe thirty (of course we let them know ahead of time), and they basically gave us the entire second floor.
I wouldn’t come here for a quiet drink, but in a group, even a small one, I feel like one couldn’t help spending a super fun evening.

I was recently in Paris on a solo trip and craved some english speaking company. This place did not disappoint! I happened to be there on an earlier time on a weekday so it was that crazy.
Prices were fair, and the service is really good. Tatenda (sp? I just know his name rhymes with bartendaaaaa and he in fact, was the bartender) was really cool and he even helped me look up some crazy requests I had (at one point I wanted karaōke, and at another point I was asking about local beers… which, stupid me, the french much prefer their wines). but all in all, fantastic experience and will be back to visit if I’m ever missing home!

Situé au pied de la montagne Sainte Geneviève, le Long Hop est le «pub» par excellence.
Grande terrasse pour faire du «people watching» en buvant une bonne pinte. (bonne selection de bières anglaises et irlandaises).
On apprécie l’atmosphère pas trop bondée où on peut discuter voir même danser sans écraser le pied de son voisin.
Table de billards à disposition des clients.
Il y a également un étage pouvant accueillir une vingtaine de gens, pratique pour discuter au calme et contempler le bar.
Le staff est souriant et efficace.
Un endroit à recommander aussi bien pour les soirs de matchs (nombreuses tv diffusant les matchs de foot et rugby) que pour prendre une pinte entre potes.

Beer selection is good, happy hour prices were great relative the location.
Bartenders/​servers were friendly and attentive. Nice find for any English speaking ex-​pat.

Des années et des années que j’y vais ! Une terrasse agréable même si les chaises sont mortes ! Le petit hic, j’ai beau y être toutes les semaines depuis 5 ans, ils m’ont encore calculé comme un habitué.
Le plus: serveur sympa, bonne ambiance, pinte au prix de paris, soirée à thème, ils font de la bouffe depuis peu !
J’adore cet endroit !

Ce bar possède une terrasse avec vue sur la cathédrale Notre-​dame.
Une table de billard américain trôné sur ce qui devient une piste de danse dans la soirée.
Quelques parties de bière pong s’organisent parfois.
La clientèle est anglosaxonne comme une partie du personnel. .
Ils diffusent pratiquement tout les sports (baseball. .)
Toute fois les jours de match, ça devient un repaire des pro-​PSG.^^

Un bar comme parmi tant d’autres dans le Vème, un mix entre le O’Sullivan et le Café Oz.
Beaucoup de monde, musique commerciale ou Electro Cheap très forte.
Bar appréciable quand on est déjà un peu éméché sinon passez vot’chemin.
Les prix sont pas exorbitants.

Ask the bartender for the WiFi code. Overall, I think this place is sort of a casual bar that probably gets crowded at night, but I was here for a few drinks on a Sunday during the day. The place was not crowded at all, and we were able to grab seats at the bar. Drink prices are a bit high for the venue but I’m assuming they’re more reasonable during happy hour. Bartenders were not too chatty, but didn’t ignore me either.

Are you American or Brit? Do you love American or Brit sports (or, as Brits incorrectly say, «sport”– those Brits… they are still learning how to speak English ;-) And yet… with all the wonderful things the U.S. and U.K. have to offer… you STILL love Paris more than life itself? Well, then… THIS is the place for you! Extremely friendly staff, wonderful pub food and, late in the evening, a great place to meet someone! One of my favorite local haunts. A «must try.»

Bjr, bon espace de détente ouvert à toutes les nationalités, et plus particulièrement anglo-​saxonnes! C’est l’occasion de presser un bon moment à la Parisienne avec un beau mélange de bulles de bière ;-)… Cadre typique orienté rugby… @ né pas manquer

Une bonne adresse vers Maubert avec terrasse et privatisation possible du haut, musique commerciale avec les clips qui passent derrière (sympathique moi qui n’avait pas allumé MCM depuis mes 16 ans c’était chouette), service efficace autant pour servir que pour ramasser les verres, population jeune et cool. Bref rien d’incroyable mais juste un bon pub comme on les aime pour une soirée entre potes sans étouffer où il est possible de se poser, de danser ou de sortir fumer.
Petit plus: il est possible de rapporter à manger: pratique pour les anniversaires et autre apéro.
Il ferme à 2h par contre et à part le Violon dingue (sympa mais bondé) ou La pomme d’Eve (pas de queue mais videurs relou) il n’y a pas grand chose pour continuer la soirée… Il faut prévoir de marcher ou de bouger avant les derniers métro

I had the absolute pleasure of going to The Long Hop to watch the Super Bowl this year and was blown away by this heavily packed, American friendly bar.
First off, the place will get PACKED for a popular American sporting event, regardless of the time. The Super Bowl was Midnight through 4:30 AM and it was jam packed, regardless of the slaughter. The atmosphere was very friendly and it’s one of those bars you meet your best friend in.
As far as the drinks go, it’s best to order straight from the bar. And be forwarned that the drinks here are not cheap. Pints start at 6 Euro and go up from there. A friend ordered 3 «shots of Jameson that were maybe 1 ounce each (¹⁄₃ under the standard shot) and the total was 28 I believe. Crazy.
Other than the expensive drinks here, this will make you feel like you’re back home in the states if you find yourself abroad in Paris and need some comfort.

J’y suis allé pour le super bowl c’était vraiment génial! Les prix sont correct (pinte a partir de 6 €) et l’ambiance est la !

Came in for an FA Cup match and the bartender was very accommodating to not just get me a good TV but to give me audio, despite the fact that I could only afford a 3 euro mango juice. Friendly, warm, accommodating bar, with some (not accidental) good-​looking staff :-)
Definitely an Anglo/​Anglophone hangout spot.

The place was packed every time we walked by, so we had to check it out. Very fun atmosphere, the bartenders speak English fluently. Late twenties, early thirties crowd., mix of locals and tourists. The upstairs is fun and they give you chips to munch on if you need a snack. The patio is cool too!

Everyone who works there is really polite and friendly. I love the atmosphere! Get the house white wine! It’s only 4 euro and tastes amazing!
Allmost everyone there speaks English.

L’assurance de passer une bonne soirée ! La musique est bonne, une grande terrasse, une ambiance au top, une carte complète, un baby-​foot, un billard en journée, une piste de dance le soir, ! Que de mander de plus?

Les carte des bières est importante qu’un bar lambda, les prix aussi. pas d’happy hours. Mais l’ambiance est bonne et le décor est typique d’un bar uk. Passée une certaine heure les videurs font leur entrée, et cela devient nettement moins agréable.

Passé un samedi soir, bonne ambiance, musique sympa, quelques petits endroits pour danser… Se remplit assez rapidement.

Hooray for American-​style pubs (though more English style) with free wi-​fi (unusual) and a bunch of friendly folks. A couple of beers on tap, I had a very large Kronenbourg that only set me back € 6. (eek!)
Seating outdoors and in. Only a block from Notre Dame, if you’re thirsty, this is a good break. Loud music at times, lots of people at times, it’s a decent place for a brew and some American accents.

Une des plus belles terrasses de Saint-​Germain appartient à un pub: the Long Hop! Elle est même plutôt imposante cette terrasse!
Et par une belle journée comme aujourd’hui, 25 mars, 21 degrés à l’ombré, l’endroit est idéal pour poser son séant.
Mais avant de se poser, comme dans tout pub qui se respecte, il faut aller commander au bar… en espérant que la table sera toujours libre!!!
Je me dirige donc vers le comptoir où une charmante serveuse (américaine?) m’accueille de son plus large sourire.
Moi: Vous faites le Happy Hour? (Il est 18h30).
Elle: Nouzavons student night le… hmm…mercredi…et…hmm
Moi (voulant aider): My question was: Is there a Happy Hour now?
Elle (In English): Non, seulement les students et girls nights en semaine.
Moi: Je vais prendre une Kronenbourg alors (la moins chère: 5,90)
Le choix est restreint en bières. Toujours les mêmes: Guiness, Kilkenny, Carlsberg, Kronenbourg, Forsters… et là, voilà que je comprends trop tard qu’il y a de la Ale, oui, de la Newcastle à la pression (7 euros la pinte… Ouille), caché à l’autre bout du bar.
Bön, je reviendrai pour la Newcastle un soir de match mais je la dégusterai leeeeeeennnnntement!
Pas de Happy Hour, sauf pour les étudiants en milieu de semaine? M’enfin?
P.S: Beau décor et Free Wifi! Superbe terrasse, service en V. O et Ale on tap. C’est aussi pour ça que je mets 4 étoiles. Mais c’est cher.

At night, this bar is pretty cool for an American to come to. Their playlist of music is filled with songs familiar to Californians. They do range quite a bit from what era they come from but they mostly are older songs. I’ve notice that the songs repeat night after night, so i think it’s the same playlist on the ipod or something.
This is kinda weird, but you can also play beer pong and I’ve heard they have a beer bong here upon request.
Their drinks are descent. They have a student night special of 5 € for cocktails. They’re a bit weak, but whatever…
One of the great things here though is that the number of creepers is down. My lady friends have gotten the least amount of harassment here compared to other bars and clubs. This is surprising especially when you see a bunch of pretty girls dancing and singing to the music in the bar. But hey. maybe all the Americans watch out for each other =)
If you’re homesick for the states… hopefully this bar will help a bit.

Very bad service, don’t go there
A couple of weeks ago the bouncer did not let us in (a group of 2 couples) because my friend had an empty cup in his hand. We threw it in a garbage can on the sidewalk but we were still not allowed to sit down on one of the free terrace tables by this very rude bouncer. I complained to the management by e-​mail and it took them three weeks to get back to me with a disrespectful answer.

This is a bit of a rant about the quality of beers in Paris rather than a proper review but seriously what’s with the Fosters and Carlsberg? Why does Paris loves these beers of failure so much?
Long Hop has some other options (in addition to the standard Paris fare of Kronenbourg and Leffe) like… Leffe blonde. I also saw some tins of Bud in their fridge.
This is a great patio. It’s sunken in from the street and they have lots of chairs and umbrellas. They don’t really care if you move things around and it’s in a great location. And wifi. That was very convenient for me.
Good bathrooms, medium prices on pints but a great patio.

Né pas y mettre les pieds
Un bar où on se demande comment sont recrutés les serveurs… L’attitude de l’un d’eux notamment s’est révélée totalement inadmissible. La politesse et le sens du service né sont visiblement pas des qualités requises pour travailler dans ce bar. Je vous incite à né pas mettre les pieds dans ce bar, car il est loin d’en valoir la peine, à moins d’aimer vous faire traiter mauvais, pour ensuite tendre l’autre joue, lorsque le pseudo «serveur» (ose !) exiger des excuses. Il n’y a malheureusement pas la note 0 pour exprimer à quel point ce bar est mauvais.

Decevant, service à revoir
Je suis allé à «The Long Hop» pour voir un match de coupe du monde, le staff du bar était vraiment irrespectueux de la clientèle comme si il était énervé d’avoir un Pub rempli à 20h. Les serveurs étaient super désagréables avec les clients se trouvant sur «leur chemin «et mettant même des gens dehors sans aucune raison. Franchement, ça né vaut pas le coup d’y aller. Surtout né sortez pas du bar en y laissant votre veste, car on né vous laissera pas rentrer la reprendre car: «le bar est trop plein «.

Quand j’ai débarqué sur Paris, il y a quelques années, j’ai eu la chance d’habiter dans le 6ème arrondissement. J’allais donc de temps en temps dans ce bar…
J’ai bien aimé parce que, à chaque fois, il n’y avait pas grand monde. Et j’aime les endroits où il n’y a personne, plus d’intimité, service meilleur (normalement!)…
Bref, j’ai trouvé ça pas mal, surtout leur terrasse pour les beaux jours…
Leur Happy hour était hyper intéressant à l’époque…

Le Long Hop a une grande terrasse qui donne sur le boulevard Saint-​Germain, et fait de bons happy hour. C’est en soit une raison suffisante pour y aller. Mon beau-​frère américain y trouve un autre intérêt, celui de voir les matchs de football américain en bonne compagnie. Les soirs de match, la salle est bondée, l’ambiance est masculine.
Le weekend, c’est plus ambiance bar de soirée d’écoles de commerce, avec un dj pas terrible, du gros son qui tâche, des mecs en goguette. Sur un coup de chance, on peut rencontrer des gens intéressants, mais en règle générale, c’est plutôt rasant.

Tres sympa… Bar international
Certes il est possible d’entendre plus anglais que francais, il y a beaucoup beaucoup d’etranger…Les prix sont correctes sans plus… Dans la norme dans un pub, et je trouve la decoration assez sympa… Ambiance pub australien anglais, ou il est possible de dancer s’ils ont a envie, mais aussi d’etre accoudé au bar… Il ya des jeunes et moins jeunes, ce qui est tres sympa et fait une ambiance assez survolté… Perso un tres bon bar, a allé de temps en temps… Il y a une piece en haut plus bar, et en bas dans la voute, plus cocktails shots… R.A.S.Entre potes, soirée reussie plusieurs fois.

I used to go here back in the day when I lived in Paris as a kid. The venue is a decent size with some good happy hr offers; unfortunately most of the time it is dead!
I recommend it for a NYE venue — for some bizarre reason, it magically turns into a super-​venue; with loads of fit people having a great time.
In summertime the terrace can be nice. Be prepared to part with EUR7ish for a pint (yes i know! but thats standard paris pub prices) :P

Très bonne adresse
Pub super agréable avec un personnel très sympa ! Un très large choix de matchs avec de nombreux écrans pour ceux qui cherchent à voir du sport dans une bonne ambiance et autour d’une bière. La terrasse peut être super agréable car un peu retirée de la circulation même si, perso, je préfère être accoudé au bar. Sinon très bonne ambiance avec de nombreuses animations au choix: DJ, beer-​pong,…

Un pub tel qu’on en cherche partout On a l’impression d’être de retour à Londres ! L’ambiance est très festive (surtout le lundi avec le célèbre Pub Quizz), le patron et le personnel adorables. Les consommations sont dans la norme de prix ! Le Long hop est l’assurance de passer une bonne soirée entre amis !

So this review may not be that helpful due to time period during which I frequented this place, but I feel like I need to give a shout out to what was one of my favorite bars when I was studying in ParisThe Long Hop.
Known cordially as The Hop, it’s an English pub, located in the heart of the Latin Quarter. It catered to English-​speaking expats, foreign students, and it was made up a crowd that loved to throw down pints like it was nobody’s business.
Snippets of soccer (football) matches, dancing, chugging contests, the Super Bowl, and complete insanity are all that remain of my cloudy, drunken memories of this place.
Michael was an amazing manager, who would push his patrons out of the way to come greet me every time I came with my friends, and he’d buy me my first pint. You don’t find that kind of warmth anywhere.
Great English and Irish beers on tap, a huge interior with an upstairs, great DJs, and fun times had by all are what the Hop has to offer.

Popular with English rugby-​playing students. If you can ignore that, then it’s a good place as the beer’s quite cheap. Wear what you want in the daytime, the there’s a (fairly liberal) dress code in the evening, when it gets quite crowded.
