Our other hotel that we planned at staying all of our nights at didn’t have any availability for our first night in the towns, so I found this place around the corner from where we would be staying and decided to book it for one of our nights. The women working at the front desk were very sweet and their English was excellent. If I had a question or needed directions they were very good at assisting my mother and I. This is so close to the train station, really not even 5 minutes away. Very very walkable. The hotel itself is right off of the main street in town and right out the door is where the Christmas Market was, so it was perfect. The room is the downside. It was clean for what it is, but it is old. Simple things that you wouldn’t expect to not be there… weren’t. A shower door or curtain for example, non existent. I think that’s just silly! What a mess it made, I felt worse leaving it wet for the made the next day, but I’m sure they are used to it by now. The bathroom didn’t have any type of shelves or place to set your things down either. The sink and toilet were old. The hotel stairs were creaky and the halls are dark. We skipped out on the breakfast, knowing we could get coffee and a croissant at a bar around the corner in the morning for cheap. It was around 1am when the noise outside on the street was SO loud. I can understand some men partying in the street while walking by and the noise passing– but this was a bunch of noise from the surrounding bars. Meaning a couple of doors down and next door. I was so frustrated I couldn’t believe they don’t make these people quiet down– maybe it doesn’t happen that often, but it definitely kept me up for a good hour. I was tempted to yell out the window, but I didn’t want to be that cranky old lady and then wake up people at our hotel– if they weren’t already awake like we were. This hotel needs some updates for sure. It’s just a bit sad. There are better places in the town to book if you are going to stay for more than two nights. If you’re here for a night or two, you’re fine. Again– it was all about the location and the service for me. Otherwise I’d skip and look into something else. It’s a budget hotel. Just know that going in.

I’ll never stay here again. Let me explain how annoying it was to stay here. We came into Reims on a Monday and when we checked in, Lionel, the guy at the fron desk, told us we were checking in for 2 nights, although it was only 1 night. I argued wtih him that it was only 1 night and eventually he said«oh okay» like he had no clue how to operate his system. Then he asked us if we were doing any champagne tasting, and we told him we didn’t have any places in mind and we’d appreciate his suggestion. He suggested Mumms, which we thought was going to be excellent! When we arrived at Mumms, the awful woman at the desk asked if we had a reservation, and when we said no, she said«then no champagne tasting for you» and didn’t say anything else. When I asked if the woman had any alternative recommendations, she said no and that was the end of her talking to us. So the second annoying thing was Lionel pretty much sending us off, most likely knowing full well that we’d need a reservation, to a champagne tasting room only be to turned away. The second person we interacted with was a dark haired woman, and I asked her for a USB charger so I could charge my American iPhone. SHELITERALLYGAVEMEHALFOFTHECONNECTION. I mean, I was happy they had a USB charger at all, but she only gave me HALF of the plug in, therefore we couldn’t actually use it. So, this was our second encounter with a useless helper at Grand Hotel du Nord. Additionally, my partner left his iPad in the room, which of course is our fault, but we knew exactly where we left it and we learned this within an hour of leaving the hotel at the train station. There is literally no other place it would have been but on the bed. When I called in to ask about it, the woman told us to call in the morning. So I called back in the morning and she said no one saw it. So I can say with gusto that one of the employees STOLE my partner’s iPad. We’ll never stay here again and this was annoying enough for us to potentially never return to Reims.
