Stopped by here for a quick bite to eat. Took a long time to get waited on, once the server came over he was nice. The chips were fine. The pot of tea was good. The place was dark, could have used a few extra lights in there. The outside is really cute and has a large patio area. It had been raining or we would have sat outside.

Visited April 2015: «Oldest Bar in Ireland» We were told to go to this place by a friend who enjoyed it, and told use all about the limericks around the bar So we decided to make a stop there for lunch. They had a multitude of badges from around the world from first responders. For instance, we saw Chicago Police, Lancaster, etc. We were looking for the limericks we were told about but could not locate them in the restaurant, or bathroom. I jumped on the internet to see if I could obtain some information, and learned that the bar has a 400 year old history and it was a location that the nearby castle guards went to for a few beers. We took a few photos of the bar, the castle, and the nearby river before heading off.

This place is over rated. We went with a fairly large group and I don’t think anyone truly loved their meal. Burger was dry and boring. Definitely overpriced for the food we got. Décor is lovely and beer was good. Service on the slow side. Would recommend skipping this one.

Order at the bar and find a seat. Or just go in and sit down if you’re at the castle and need to access wifi. Dirty Nelly’s is a great place, people are the salt of the earth and just really awesome. Atmosphere of the place is really cool and the seafood is great. And well it doesn’t need to be said, but I will, Guinness is a perfect pour :)

This is a nice restaurant pub that’s known for their seafood and that they are one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. I wasn’t really incredible hungry so I just ordered the oysters and their soup which were both great! I kind of regret not being hungrier so I could have tried more! One minor mistake I made was I came in and grabbed a table expecting service. But I’m guessing you were supposed to go to the bar first and then be seated(which is what I eventually did). The food also came out a little slower than I would’ve expected for my simpler order, but still worth the wait. Other than that though — friendly professional service. If you’re just here to experience the old pub — turn right as you go in as it’s really a small room with the original wall on the far right. They have a few small tables and a very small bar there. Pretty neat to see and grab a pint in one of the oldest pubs in all Ireland(est 1620 if memory serves me right), but I’d not recommend dining in there as it is pretty cramped. They also have a gift shop on the second floor, but it’s locked up and you have to ask a staff member to open it. All that being said — I highly recommend this place for those coming in /leaving Bunratty as a great place to either grab a bite to eat or a pint. If you’re passing through, worth it to stop and have a pint at one of the oldest pubs in Ireland!

Came here for a quick snack after a day at bunratty castle. The boyfriend had a really tasty spiked coffee ‘nellys special coffee’. I had a Guinness. To share, we had the mussels and traditional pork sausage. The space is really cute with plenty of outdoor seating. Try to grab a spot on the 2nd level patio that overlooks the country side. Food was pretty good, no complaints.

Outstanding fish chowder, thickened with… a great quantity of fish. This is completely unlike the wallpaper-paste consistency chowder found in much of the US, where you have to search diligently to find much fish at all. Great atmosphere.

Order at the bar, find a seat, and they’ll find ya… they always do. I had soup… which was good but don’t know what it was. Probably left overs from the day before’s chicken and veggies. Great view of the castle and plenty of seats outside.

Went there, out of my way, because 2 people highly recommended it. I had a tasteless burger. Nothing special at all. I must have missed something! I cannot recommend it.

Very cool place, right next to Bunratty Castle! Kind of touristy, but very cozy. Excellent wait staff. Did not have food, but what I saw looked very good. I think I saw more Americans there than anywhere else in Ireland.

Although it’s in a touristy location in a touristy town, Durty Nelly’s is actually pretty decent so far as standard pub fare goes. Prices aren’t too bad, service isn’t too slow and overall it’s a solid, non-shitty experience.

Feels like a tourist trap. It actually does look even a little«Durty» inside with the dusty, cobwebbed animal heads on plaques. There weren’t a ton of people but I usually stear clear of any restaurant that boasts a «gift shop» We stopped here after a tour of Bunratty. My husband ordered the Beef and Guinness stew and I had the vegetable soup. Both were decent. Nothing spectacular. They were both exactly what we needed after walking around in the freezing rain at the folk village so this place served its purpose. I am sure there are better places but there don’t seem to be too many options in this area.

Paid bartender(Davey Jones — Monkees look alike) 25 Euro for a 22.50 Euro check. He kept the change. The«seafood chowder» was really horrible. Tasted like it was made with powder from a packet. Croutons were worse if that is possible. I had some GREAT chowder in Galway that was MILES better than this drivel. Hamburger was tasty but cooked well done and was extremely dry. The Guinness was good. Go to the Creamery Pub across the street next to the Woolen Mills for better food, great bartending, and atmosphere.

Came to Ireland at 19. This and the coastline made the biggest impression! I loved Durty Nelly’s. It was dark inside, but the food was great!

Durty Nelly’s provided my first meal in Ireland. Fresh off the plane, exhausted, and hungry, I couldn’t have picked a better spot to start the journey. Although it took a minute before realizing the way most local pubs and restaurants work(seating = find an open chair and plop down and ordering = sidle up to the bar and tell them what you want), once we figured it out we were good to go. I thought I had had fish n’ chips before — really, I did. Apparently, nothing quite compares to the massive filet of cod served atop golden fries that you’ll find in Ireland. Oh my. Wash it down with a pint of Bulmer’s and you’ll be grinning for the rest of the afternoon. It was easy to see why this original establishment has spawned pubs in the States — the food is great, the atmosphere is casual and friendly, and it has a definitive cool vibe. I also thought it was awesome to see the wall covered with news clippings and other memorabilia from September 11th. The framed NYFD uniform was really something special. If I’m ever lucky enough to find myself in Bunratty again, I will certainly stop in for a bite and a Bulmer’s.

Yeah, it’s a bit of a tourist trap(well duh, it’s next to Bunratty Castle), but the food is decent, and the beer is fresh(not stale). One thing about tourist traps, because they have such a high turnover of patrons this equates(usually) to fresh ingredients and a menu that’s both equally contemporary and yet traditional. It’s a win win scenario. The palm trees on the deck are an unexpected twist of tropical on the misty isle and give one the feeling they’re at a theme park, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your childhood. Not my fav pub in Ireland, but it must have something going for it –it’s been around since 1620!
