At it’s best, Wardes was a chipper, serving standard fare chips, burgers, onion rings etc. It was special in that it often stayed open well into the night and sold Blue Nun wine in a brown paper bag for you to take away after officially licensed alcohol selling hours. Indeed, it was also the scene of manys a late night skirmish. Sadly, this fine establishment is no longer with us. If a late night brawl over a bag of chips is what you’re after, there’s another chipper on Pound Street that should satisfy your Saturday night desires.
