Bodhran Bar

Its a proper day drinking pub, live music a few nights a week, great place to while away a few hours when its sunny outside and trying to get away!

I love the Bodhran — I have fond memories of it from way back in the day when I was visiting Cork on my own, and in the 10+ years since I made those first memories, I am happy to say that it hasn’t changed a bit and remains just as awesome as I remembered.
It’s a relatively smallish place (I agree with the reviewer who said it’s cozy), definitely an old-​school Irish pub, and the clientele is mostly locals. The back room has a small stove that keeps the area warm in the winter, and if you look up/​on the walls, there’s lots of cool stained glass (including the skylights) and Celtic décor. (There are also lots of pictures of Phil Lynott/​Thin Lizzy, for all of you fans.) The Bodhran offers frequent live music, so be sure to try to catch a session if you can.
Drink prices are reasonable, and the Bodhran is a great place to meet up with a couple of friends, grab a quiet corner, and enjoy a true slice of Irish pub life. Or head in on your own, and make some new friends! Then, when you’ve had enough, you can head back out into the craziness of OIiver Plunkett Street!
I hope the Bodhran never changes, and I look forward to visiting again the next time I’m in Cork. When it comes to Irish pubs, I really do think this one is as good as it gets.

Oliver Plunkett Street can be pretty chaotic on a Saturday night, and fighting your way through the bigger pubs gets boring after a while. Good thing there’s the Bodhran. It’s small, but there’s always a great atmosphere. One of the best old-​school pubs in the city.

Seems small from the outside, but is a little bigger inside. Cosy is the word I’d use for the bodhran (nobody calls it ‘an’ bodhran). Excellent place to meet some local Cork people — it’s small, so you can’t help but have a chat. Live music too brings a great atmosphere.
