Nice looking restaurant, but the service was slow and they only had Heineken and Miller beers. The Heineken when it arrived was in bottles, not draught, and it was warm. And the waiter, when I told him that the beer was warm, insisted that I was wrong and that the beer was cold. This despite my three companions agreeing that the beer was warm. The food was ok — avoid the curry. The burger was good, I was told.

Dropped in for a late night bite with a party of six. Enjoyed beers and cider while waiting for our meal. Appetizer of melon and prosciutto with feta and a honey drizzle was not only beautiful but delicious and refreshing. I would order this again. We also enjoyed the pasta with mussels and prawns, and a few variations of their pizzas. The food was great and the décor delightful. I would recommend Currans and would definitely go back if in the Cork area.

Food: Not great. Could prepare better at home. eg «Tagliatelle Carbonara»: Pasta like pasta from a supermarket, broken lunchmeat scattered on top with sauce which tasted exactly like packet soup. Partners meal was like a ready meal pack put on a plate. Staff: One friendly waitress. The rest were not interested. Price: Reasonable, but the same meal could be prepared at home for a fraction of the price. Other: Used chewing gum from a previous customer in one of our napkins. Clearly they dont replace items if it looks like they haven’t been used. Same with cutlery you begin to wonder?

Situated just off the busy thoroughfare of North Main Street, Currans is something of a hidden jewel in the crown of the city’s restaurants. With more than a hint of traditional Irish in its antique signs and solid wooden furniture, the interior also has a twist of French influence with internal and external ivy-covered trellises, plenty of mirrors and gorgeous wrough iron work through their two floors and rooftop café. The menu is also something of an interesting mix — pizzas feature, but aren’t prevalent; it’s possible to get an excellent steak, and they also have a wide range of lunch dishes, should you be in at that time. While the range of food available may be unexceptional, the quality isn’t — every meal is obviously hand-cooked from scratch using only the freshest ingredieents, resulting in a proper, honest-to-goodness feed every time. And with main courses ranging from € 12 to € 25 for a steak, it’s the perfect place for a romantic night out that won’t break the bank. Currans’ provides their customers with a meal the way restaurant food should be, but unfortunately all too often isn’t — the kind of food your mother might make, if she was a professional cook in a top-of-the-range kitchen.

This is a really nice restaurant, with a great laid-back air to it. The range of dishes is good, and the food is delicious and quite reasonably priced. It’s quite big too, so you don’t get that uncomfortable squashed-in feeling! It’s also good for larger groups — they catered quite well for a party of around 15 I was in last Christmas(2007).
