Whether you are visiting or live in Cork city this is a must visit for some excellent food in great surroundings. They don’t take bookings but staff are very friendly and accommodating and you won’t be waiting long. While you wait you can enjoy a drink at the bar. I would recommend the spicy chicken wings and the oreo sundae is amazing

Son of a Bun We visited Son of a Bun in a group of 7. To my knowledge you cannot make reservations — this would be my only issue with this venue. Food was good, Service was good. Small mix up with our Bill but that’s nothing new when there’s such a large single bill. I would return!

Nice place and burgers sound good but if you don’t eat meat there are no real options except a mushroom burger. I love eating in burger joints as every decent burger joint I have been in always offers their burger options with an optional bean patty.

If you live in, or are lucky enough to visit Cork in 2016, your New Year’s resolution should be to visit Son of A Bun! Only open a few months, there’s no doubt the owners have already solidified their spot at the top of Cork’s dining food chain. A step way above a traditional chipper, Son of a Bun has done a great job replicating a traditional American burger joint, and there’s no doubt it’s the best burger I’ve found in my time in Ireland(which is extensive!) The place was jam packed– it was New Year’s Eve, but something tells me the growing popularity of this location makes the crowd fairly common. The hostess politely took our name and gave us an almost to the minute prediction of when we’d be seated. There’s a nice bar to sit and get a drink while you’re waiting if that’s you decide that’s how you want to spend your time waiting for table. Once seated, even with the big crowd, service was excellent, and it wasn’t long until we were all enjoying our burgers– two kids cheeseburgers, a Classic, a Cheese and a Stack. The recommended preparation has it delivered«pink in the middle” — but they had no problem accommodating one request for well done. All were well presented with the necessary condiments, and as hard as it is to satisfy a 12 year old, an 8 year old and a 4 year old, the chef exceeded all expectations! With orders of cheese fries, skinny fries and sweet potato fries everyone’s plate was more than full! Desserts followed, all simple but a satisfying way to end the meal, and exactly what you’d expect from a burger joint. Looking forward to being back soon!

Absolutely gorgeous food and great service. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. Nicest burger I have ever had I think and chicken wings were also delicious. Was not too expensive so is definitely worth trying!

this place was so good that i actually think i will have to start ranking on a curve and change my other burger reviews in cork, i had the cheeseburger and chips — original i know but honestly it was epic, certainly the best burger i have ever had in ireland, it beats all those places in dublin! really… it is top, well cooked and great atmos it was packed in there as well… if you are craving a burger hit, it has to be here…

This place and the new BBQ place next door are really making MacCurtain street into a place to be. It’s was absolutely packed when I went and I had to wait for a table for 30mins. Which was totally cool as I drank a delicious glass of wine while I waited. The meat is so local and good that all burgers come pink unless you ask otherwise. Delicious. The only disappointment was the dessert for me. A classic diner menu of knickerbocker glory and banana split along with churros and brownies and icecream, but just not amazing. I will definitely be going again. It’s great.
