Loved this place! Discovered it on first night in Cork and had a great time here. Cosy pub with a good range of beers/whiskeys/cocktails. Staff so friendly and good fun and were chatting to us all night and making us feel welcome in the city. Have a discount for if staying in Sheilas hostel as well which made it a cheapish night! Ended up here again next day for rugby, which had great craic!

Any person can pour a beer and make a drink. What makes a good pub is its warmth and atmosphere. Though there was but a few souls here last night this is a pub that is warm happy and pleasant. The fireplace was hot and fierce and Colin the bartender and the people who were there were as nice and friendly as it gets!

a solid mcCurtain street venue… nearly always busy and not a bad place to pit-stop for beer… but for me i nearly always continue on past here… not saying i havent had great nights here. just not that many!

The whiskey selection lured us in, but we stayed for the friendly service and patrons. The smoking area outside is also plus, even on a rainy night, it felt cosy enough. The interior of the pub is marked by a big central island bar, which probably helps with the good-humored and warm ambiance of the place. Even though we didn’t order any food, I thought the signs advertising the chipper right across the street were pretty cool, you can basically order food in. When I visit Cork again, I’ll make sure to make a stop here :)

Fab pub! The people here are friendly and up for a bit of craic. If you remember the show«Cheers», that’s what I thought of in this bar. A woman next to me hugged the girls she was talking to as they left. I walked in by myself and got introduced to everyone. Bartenders and patrons were all one big family, and I was welcomed right in. If you feel like having a bite to eat, you can hop across the road to the chipper that will deliver right to the bar. Best fish and chips I’ve had yet and don’t even get me started on the mushy peas…

Decent beer selection and ok prices but only food is for ½ price take-away pizzas from another place. The environment itself is nice, very large particularly for Ireland, great booths and chairs, large TV in front and nice outside area. I’d run across the street to the fish & chips place for some food and eat outside for a nice combination. if just looking for relaxing pint this is great stop.

Great spot. Friendly Bar Men, cosy atmosphere, lovely pints. MaCurtain street is hopping these days. Ask the Bar Man for the convoluted WiFi code.

THESHELBOURNE The Shelbourne Bar in McCurtain is one popular venue, the crowd usually spilling out onto the footpath. But it was relatively unpopulated on Saturday afternoon when I called for refreshment after watching the Lee Swim. Quite an amount of bottled beer from abroad available but went for a pint of Carlsberg. It was cold and beautiful, the most welcome drink ever, after the heat of the streets. The pint and a half cost € 6.80, a full fifty cent dearer than my suburban local. But that extra didn’t take from the pleasure. Service is fine and the seating is comfortable. The stone and tile floor was also quite cool and the Gaelic football game on the telly did nothing to raise the temperature either. Things began to look up with the arrival of what looked like a Scottish stag party. I had been looking at a couple of old photos on the wall and the lady in black and white bore quite a resemblance to Gordon Strachan. Could have been his grandmother.
