This shop is absolutely beautiful. They carry lace, edging, buttons, embroidery thread, ribbons, threads, and appliqués. They have everything you need for your project. Whether you are decorating for a wedding, or a party or just wrapping a present nicely, you can find it here. It is a sewer, stitcher, and crafters delight. Not too inexpensive, but well worth the price.

Hard to go into this place without leaving with a bag of beautiful items that I don’t even know what I’ll do with. Just have to have. Great price silks and trimmings for all eventualities. Love.

well if you like ribbons this is certainly the place to go. It’s a beautiful little shop in the Powerscourt centre with such an array of colours and patterns that even a ribbon sceptic would have to appreciate it. Some can be quite expensive but they also have sale stock which is reduced. Everything is organised by colour so it’s easy to find what you want. I got some really beautiful and unusual ribbon there and the selection is way bigger than Hickeys

Oh the things I could make! This store is filled with adorable accessories for feathered and bejeweled hats, dresses and coats. I could spend a fortune here! Ribbon in every color, feathers in every size, and buttons for every project! I could go on, but if you are crafty and love customizing costumes and outfits you have to check this place out for yourself. Do it!

Fetch me a fan, I’m about to catch a case of the vapours! I had no idea this delicious little trimmings boutique was in Powerscourt Centre(serves me right spending all my time magpie-ing upstairs in the silver hall). A. Rubanesque is perfection for all your delicate ribbons, lace, feathers and fascinators. There’s also a healthy library of gorgeous buttons in all sizes, shades and shapes — displayed so tastily in tall kilner jars and just begging for you to pick a few to take home! At €.50 per button and so much more for those yards of sugar-sweet ribbon, it’s no Hickeys. But then, you’re not in A. Rubanesque for some run of the mill ric-rac. You want flash, glam and something decidedly more fabulous. Honey, it’s all here.

Have you ever shopped at the end of a rainbow? Neither had I until today. Stocking everything you can think of to design your own clothing and accessories, or pretty up something you already own, this shop is a decadent treasure chest. Now, this is no haberdashery — it’s a «passementerie.» Yep, I googled it: the art of making elaborate trimmings for clothing or furniture. Overflowing with beautiful and unusual trimmings in every possible hue, you want to become a milliner or haute couture designer the moment you walk through the door. Buttons, material flowers and feathers entice in glass candy jars. Reels of ribbons and material beckon to you from the walls. The designs range from unusual bold prints to intricate weaves and delicate hand-painted ribbons. You can’t help wandering around and touching everything — and guess what? The staff actually encourage it. They love their products, they love their work and they love you! If you’re stuck for ideas, there’s an array of gorgeous accessories dotted around the shop which are also for sale. Or better still, ask the staff. I chatted with the young guy behind the counter, explaining that I wanted to spruce up an evening dress outfit. He got me to describe the outfit then deftly gathered some items and demonstrated how they might be put together and what they could be used for — a hair piece, a necklace, spice up long gloves. He was amazing — my own personal shopper. The clientele during my visit included a designer, an artist and a couple of students looking to make their clothes spruce up and stand out. I can’t believe this shop has been there for five months and I’ve never discovered it before. I’m already dreaming of returning to collect another pot of gold. This time I’m hoping for bluebirds too.

Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters would have loved this shop, seeing as they were continually on the lookout for a delightful trim for a bonnet or the perfect ribbon to attract a rich suitor. There was obviously a gap in the market for an Ann Summers, but by God, they made do. If you, like the Bennet girls, love to embellish, then A Rubanesque is the store for you, as it is overflowing with gorgeous, internationally sourced ribbons, lace, buttons and geegaws of all kinds.

Ribbons and buttons and notions, oh my! The A in A Rubanesque is a mystery. What does it stand for? Probably Alexa, the owner of this cute boutique that sells thousands of different types of beautiful ribbons in satin, lace, grosgrain and more as well as buttons, embroidery thread and supplies, trims, and more. The is undoubtedly THE place to go if you’re looking for a very specific color in a specific type of ribbon, thread or button, as you can almost guarantee that A Rubanesque has it. The incredible variety of ribbon is only topped by the amazing array of colors. Even if you aren’t on the market for ribbon, the shop is a fun place to browse just because it is so visually stimulating. The items are arranged by color, creating a rainbowed feast for the eyes! The shop is small, but bright and cheery and is just a pleasant place to be. The helpful staff adds to the shop’s great vibe.

I’m not a granny. But I seem to be the only person in all of Dublin who might possibly need embroidery thread. Jeekers it’s hard to find! No craft shops, no art shops, no fabric shops and I was recommended to go to two places that are the other side of the city on my search for thread. But then, oh joy, I passed by Rubanesque. It’s a very fancy button and ribbon shop but it also has, yes, you guessed it, embroidery thread. Woo hoo. And as an added bonus, embroidery needles. Jackpot.
