This little shop is so great. They actually have nice baked goods. Also stock soft drinks, and prepared foods. Very fresh, brought in daily. Very nice coffee & teas to go. They are a shop, no tables or chairs.

Found this place by accident and was super excited. A random bakery near a neighborhood and park. Honestly the owners or workers of this bakery were the sweetest ladies. They welcomed us and gave me and my american friends advice on what to do in Ireland for the weekend. They even ripped open two cake boxes to show us their beautiful creations and woo us. We bought an apple pie. And some tomato bread. To be quite honest, it was my first pie ever, and maybe I’m not a pie person but the apples were really not sweet but a bit sour. But the tomato bread was so delicious! I know this bakery is good though so definitely worth a visit!

Bit of a mixed bag for me. Usually I’ve been very pleased with their bakery counter, but out of the six or seven times my family has ordered birthday cakes from them, at least three have turned out to be very dissapointing. The first time we ordered a Bailey’s cheesecake which absolutely melted my heart it was so decadently gorgeous. Spured on by that success we tried some other types. Unfortunately not all of them were deserving of praise. The worst was my own birthday cake about 2 years back; a chocolate sponge that was so dry, it was almost like eating carpet. We were astonished, considering it cost € 30.00 and so we complained. They apologised profusely and offered a free fruitcake in return. There were one or two other occassions where I remember being similarly dissappointed and annoyed by the dryness, although generally when it goes right, it is lovely, especially the lemon cream layer. If you like moist cakes and you’re considering ordering a sponge, make sure you state very clearly that you will send it back unless it is perfect, as the prices are far too high not to expect it. Make sure you collect it on the day it is ready too. If I were judging their cakes alone I’d give them a 2* for being inconsistent, but their bread and their ready made meals are delicious, so that brings them up a notch.

Fancy yourself a fancy meal, but don’t fancy heading out to a restaurant? Butler’s Pantry is your answer. It’s got an amazing stock of all kinds of yummy sounding ready-made meals. All you’ve got to do is heat them up and you’ve got yourself a proper meal that appeals to your inner epicurean. My only complaint is that the meal doesn’t come with an actual butler!

The Butlers pantry as the name suggests is no McDonalds, its a posh ready made food shop. They have a few locations scattered throughout Dublin, mostly the more well off areas. Its Irish owned and run been around for around a while so its not just a Celtic tiger thing. They’re a wide ranging menu with mostly the kind of stuff you’d get an expensive(ish) restaurant. I haven’t tried much off the menu and the meal I did have was ok, a rubbery lasagna. BP is really for the can’t cook, won’t cook crowd or ‘the busy’ as a mate of mine who’s their best customer said and they do charge a bit for this as the place is pricey but with a generally good standard of cooking. As well as feeding the ‘time poor’ minions of Dublin 6 Butlers Pantry Rathgar do catering for birthdays, communions, or ‘Events’ as they call them and special dietary requirements are taken into account if you ring them.
