I live in the village and was eagerly awaiting the opening of this bar. We, the residents, had been promised an upmarket cocktail bar. When it eventually opened my partner and I went for a few drinks to check it out. We encountered a hen party, like something from Geordie Shore or similar tripe. Then we were harassed and verbally abused by a drunk couple, because they thought it would be entertaining. The bar is now frequented by the dregs of society. It’s hugely popular on the weekends with a horrible crowd. It has big screens and TVs showing soccer. We haven’t set foot in it since that one experience and judging by the sc*mbags we see and hear falling out the door every weekend we won’t be back! It’s such a pity as the location is fantastic.

I find it hard to be too enthusiastic about this place considering I only had a short afternoon pit stop here one day when I was out for a walk. It was a Thursday late afternoon and I had wanted to check this place out for a while. The bar staff were friendly when I ordered my juice and I sat at the window and observed. It was decorated well in a modern almost soul less fashion. Most people appeared to be here for food and the place was full of children. NOT my kind of bar experience. [Or most people’s for that matter.] I think this place represents what this area is. Soul less blocks of apartments with people living in them who don’t talk or interact with their neighbours. All these apartments were built up around here and the closet pub for people was the Halfway House. So this was well needed but just severely lacks character. As an original local to the area I want to be in a pub with some life to it and I doubt I will be rushing back any time soon for a few pints but I may try the food they have on offer some lunch time as it looked pretty good!

Usually I hate live music. I think we can all agree that there’s nothing worse than going for a few quiet drinks with your mates, and some poxnugget with guitar and an amplifier ends up making it impossible to do anything other than sip your drink and nod at ur mates, pretending you’ve heard what they just said. ANNYYWWAAYY… This was not how I felt about the entertainment in the canal bar. The guy singing was so good that I didn’t even realize it was live. I genuinely thought someone had put a Michael Jackson CD on. Dude should be on the X factor or something, he was fantastic and was great for interacting with the crowd Bar staff were great(although I’m being biased because I play football with one of them), but they were very friendly and made an awesome cocktail for my GF.(I’ll post the picture after I steal it from her instagram). Drinks were pricey, but I’ll definitely be back again

My favorite bar, it is so handy to stop by right beside the Ashtown Train Station. I am not a beer person, went there for lunches coffees and dinners. The seats by the windows with view of canal is my favorite spot, bright and warm and comfy. The food taste is A+ with very generous amount in portion. cocktails are amazing. staffs also friendly and cute. I would certainly recommend to everyone,
