Dahlia is located just about a block or so from my apartment, and so I pass by often. There is always something clever and enticing in the window, but I’m on a strict budget while living here to attend business school. I held off going in as long as possible, but eventually, couldn’t resist. I asked about a beautiful necklace in the window and learned that they had a smaller(more practical, I must admit) version for sale also. When, after Christmas, the shop had a sale, I could resist no longer. I had a special trip coming up, and I decided to buy it at a very good price. I learned that it, and in fact, many items in the shop, are unique or small-run items. My necklace wasn’t just stylish and perfect with almost any neckline, it was also very comfortable. When I returned from my trip, I decided to buy the larger, more«evening» version of the necklace too. I had a nice chat with the owner, and I’d hoped to come back to learn more for this review. Haven’t heard back yet — maybe another time? Anyway, I find that Dahlia does carry shoes and accessories that can easily go from day to evening with flair. And when on sale, offer a great bargain, too! Another reason why Ranelagh is a great place.

Usually I like small, independent shoe shops. Even though they don’t have a lot of variety most of the time and are sometimes a bit more expensive, they tend to have more quirky shoes and less of the major brands. Dahlia had a really nice pair of knee-high, black, high-heeled boots in the window and I decided to go inside to check the price even though I really shouldn’t buy shoes before christmas. However, I never made it to the shelf with the boots. As soon as I walked in one of the shop assistants came up to me and asked me if I needed help to which I replied that I was just having a look around. She gave me a really filthy look and I just turned around and walked back out. Won’t be giving them my money with that attitude.
