I went there while visiting Dublin and had a very so-so experience. The service was very slow at the start, but once the waitress came to the table the service was ok. Had the stew and it was good. Not great for kids but not horrible either. If the service hadn’t been so slow then the experience would have been much better.

Being from Dublin I don’t normally go into the tourist pubs however one of my genius mates thought it would be a great place to meet as it had a smoking terrace on the roof. At about 7pm on Friday there was very few people in the bar. We ordered two pints at a colossal 5.35 each. The beer I got was of dubious quality and my mates cider had almost needed to be resuscitated. The Friday was raining and the beer terrace had a completely ineffective canopy slashed water onto the uneven floor and splashed rain onto the tables.(It wasn’t even raining that hard!) While we were there an American tourist ordered two small shots of sambucha for which she was charged 10.75 and not even a smile from the barman, however he did remind her after she complaied about the price that ‘She was in Ireland now’. If this is the kind of slop and service offered to our visiting brothers and sisters I have no sympathy for bar owners winging that they are having a hard time surviving in this economy. My advise Avoid this place unless you are locked drunk and never bring your English cousin; there are much better placed in Dublin

I’ve actually drank, eaten and slept in Fitzsimons! The time I dined there it was average — not awful but nothing to shout about either. Ditto with the time I stayed there. The rooms are very basic and not exactly the most attractive. The outside of the building is not that pretty either. Regarding having a drink there, it’s the kind of place you end up going to when there’s some big match on. During the last World Cup I passed there one evening and it was mobbed out the door. But that’s typical of Temple Bar. I popped into the bar myself(the upstairs part) to watch the Munster versus Leinster rugby match earlier this year. It was busy but we got seats so it was actually a good spot to be in — we had a perfect view of the TV. It was full of Leinster supporters though and seeing as I was with a Munster group we didn’t really appreciate the atmosphere! But that wasn’t anyone’s fault! I had drinks another time on the roof terrace and I really liked it up there. It’s lovely on a warm summer’s evening and I’d definitely go back there for that.
