This is a very friendly gallery with unpretentious staff. I immediately feel at ease when I go in, even though I know little about modern art. There is a great range of ceramics, paintings and sculptures wit a few other unusual items. Really great and different one offs which if I had the money I would gladly splash out on. For what is on offer, it is still good value.

Echoing what Annie has said, Zozimus is a cool gallery packed with paintings, photographs, ceramics and wood sculptures by established artists and up-and-coming talents. Colourful ceramic statues of women with big beach-hats in the window made me stop for a closer look. Inside, countless numbers of unique pieces decorate the walls, tables and floor. The gallery opened in 2007, and has managed to indulge art lovers and build a growing reputation for its diverse and intriguing collection. Check out their website for upcoming exhibitions.

Francis street is more commonly known as the antique quarter of Dublin and it also is home to many small art galleries. But this place, wow. Vincent, the owner, explained to me that they wanted a gallery that is welcoming to the public. A place that you don’t feel intimidated to buy, a place to explore and not feel like you have to know anything about art. They achieved that easily with this place. I got lucky because one of the artists, Keith Richardson, happened to be there. He kindly gave me a tour of the place. There is so much going on there that not all my photos could capture but essentially what I got from Keith is that they are trying to be accessible to the public and reflect the hard-times. Their current project that was launched this week, is canvases that established artists have been asked to paint. The catch is they must use smaller canvas sizes to reflect the recession and thus bring the price down, all the pieces are under € 500 which, trust me, is cheap because we are talking top modern artists. There is a downstairs and Keith explained that they are the only true ceramic gallery in Ireland, he showed me the work of a Texan artist, amazing stuff… Truly amazing. You will leave with a smile on your face and an urge to return with friends, because they are so welcoming and the work is so eclectic that everyone will find something that they like.
