This shop is in an awful state! It was very messy, with products spilling off shelves and staff nowhere to be seen on the floor except those behind the counter taking in sales. It also seems incredibly overpriced, with the likes of 2 movie DVDs for € 20?! Couldn’t find what I was looking for as the signage is terrible, and the revocations aren’t complete yet, with poster bins blocking the stairways to prevent people from venturing into the unfinished areas. It’s just a big gross mess, and I won’t be returning to this branch of the store again if I can help it.

Oh, how I’ve missed you. Long gone from the U.S., I make a point of visiting HMV whenever I come across one in Europe. While they can be overpriced, I fondly remember lunchtime visits to their 5th Avenue shop in NYC, where they’d often have concerts scheduled & I’d see bands like The Chieftains or The Wolfe Tones play free sets to promote a new release. Now of course, there’s a Starbucks or some such in its place, so I go to Amazon or Best Buy, which while arguably cheaper, doesn’t bring the pleasure or immediacy of a visit to HMV or Tower. Granted, It’s still a bit frustrating to go & not find something you’ve got your heart set on, but there’s rarely a time when you’ll leave empty-handed.

Yay. HMV is back on Grafton Street(albeit at a-wares expense). It has also managed to retain the same vibe that the orginal HMV had, for me anyway. I have to be honest though, I rarely buy anything in a music and DVD shop any more. And its my husband who really wants to be here. We now watch movies on Netflix and iTunes. And music, I buy digital. But still, HMV is enjoyable for a browse.

Great to see HMV back on the high street. When they left I suddenly noticed how female focused the high street really is, I had no where to browse! This place is plenty big, three floors, and well stocked with DVDs, Games, and CDs.
