I don’t like house music. I don’t like techno. I don’t even know what the difference is, if there even is one. So when I browse through selection of a record store and most of the records are brand new vinyl from modern artists for DJ’s to spin at some freaky club where everyone is so hopped up on X that they couldn’t care less if the DJ was a robot playing an Ipod, I leave. This sums up Spindizzy for me. They do have a wall(the smallest wall about 6 feet wide) of used rock, jazz and other stuff but it is a bit overpriced. Bottom line. The best way to listen to music is on a vinyl record that was not transfered from a digital recording. That means modern vinyl is out. If your selection is mostly modern bands and techno for DJ’s, I’m not listening.

Apart from the terrific name and the free badges, Spin Dizzy has a marvellous selection of second hand vinyl, a wealth of dance/hip hop new releases, and plenty of turntables so you can have a listen before you lay down your money. They know the value of things, but the stock isn’t over-priced. It has the rarest and most desired records mounted on the wall, away from sticky fingers but within reach of(only if they are clean) adult hands.

This place is a definitely must for vinyl collectors as they sell an impressive array of new and used records. Even if you don’t have a record player I find that flipping through record bins to be a worthwhile activity for anyone. There are some real gems to be discovered, and they make great art too!

I’m not one of those cool kids who knows all the latest and underground bands, can sing alone to the most obscure songs imaginable and actually listens to vinyl. I wish I was, but I’m not. Just not that cool… I do, however, love the feeling of flicking through album covers, the feeling of anticipation building, until suddenly it happens… you come across an absolute gem of a thing, memories come flooding back and your day is made. That’s the kind of place that this is. Magic happens in this type of stall. It is small, and it does get bloody freezing in winter(it’s as good as being outside), but it’s also pretty rad man… and I do love me a good bargain…

Selling new and recycled records and cd’s for over a decade now in the same store this place really is an awesome champion of good music and making music fun again! So many vinyl lovers are so serious about their music man and the sound man, that I end up walking out of a lot of music joints. But not hear. Come in and just pretend to me looking for something but really just listen to everybody talk about the records the are looking for, they have just found and that they love to spin. It is really refreshing and cool to hear! But apart from that you will find lots of different genres of music here from techno, to rock, jazz, sixties psych, blues, garage, new wave and rare 7 inches! There is so much choice it is pure aural heaven and there is always something amazing and forgotten playing on the sound system to make the hours spent in here browsing an absolute pleasure!

Spindizzy is one of Dublin’s finer record shops for new and second-hand CDs and vinyl alike. Be sure to look at the window display as you walk in. Rare LPs go high up on the wall on the right hand side. New CDs are to the left, second-hand to the right. In the middle is the vinyl. What more could you want? A deep enough wallet, perhaps.
