Been here just the once, unfortunately for the price I was not wowed by the salon nor the stylist who done my hair. € 90 for a wash, cut and blow dry… I was expecting something truly fantastic but instead, whilst I got close to the haircut I wanted unfortunately the stylist left very blunt looking layers in my hair, given I have a short /thin hairstyle, these should not have been cut this way. The quick glance I got with the mirror at the end I didn’t spot them; I should learn to scrutinise more before the mirror is taken away. Normally have no problem styling my hair at home however these layers always seen to show plus has it started to grow it out(short pixie/bob) they became more and more of a nuisance. The biggest irritant was the stylist, who had terrible breath… Assuming a smoker plus mixed with coffee or tea over the day equaled a very unpleasant experience particularly given my short hair style required him to be up close to my face so for a half hour, I had bad breath breathing on my face. At € 90, this should have been a luxurious experience, it stopped very short of that. Am afraid I can’t 5 star this place like the other customers appear to have experienced. I’ve since found a salon which works for me and unfortunately, can’t see myself recommending this place to any of my colleagues or friends/families.

Quick Update — went back for a cut just over a week ago and can still highly endorse this salon. Alan who cut my hair not only listened to me but was able to actually identify all the problems I tend to have with my hair i.e. its very fine and fragile and prone to getting very tangled and as a result I end up breaking it a lot when trying to get the tangles out. I usually find most hairdressers tend to just claim my hair is damaged(even though I try to avoid using heat on it and sulphate shampoos and I deep condition all the time) and they in no way bother to identify that the problems are actually being caused by my hair type and not how I treat it plus they never offer any solutions — unless they are trying to sell me products. This was not the case here at all — I really thought Alan understood my hair and offered great advice without trying to convince me to spend an extra 50 euro in the salon with some magic new products. He did however use a no tangle brush(made by macadamia hair) and it was amazingly gentle and although I did buy it — I was in no way pushed into buying it. In fact I forgot to buy it before I left and had to go back in to get it. The brush also comes with a macadamia hair oil and macadamia hair mask sachet so it’s very good value. He also spent ages talking to me about what types of styling tools and products are bested suited to my hair type and how to use them — seriously couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful — same goes for everyone else I dealt with that day in the salon so I’m sticking with my opinion that this is the only place I plan to go from now on.

one of my best friends back in SF happens to have her own hair salon and ever since i let her loose on my head, i haven’t let anyone else touch my hair. you wouldn’t know it to look at me, but i have uncooperative, random hair — by that i mean 1⁄3 curly(like ringlets!), 1⁄3 one giant wave, and the rest is straight-ish. so once i had someone that truly understood it, i developed a real, wake-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-in-a-sweat, fear of going anywhere else. in the 1−½ years that i’ve lived here, i only had my hair done when i went back home. so you understand the state i was in when i finally broke down and tried somewhere local. i looked up and down Unilocal and some of those other sites, you know the ones, we dare not speak their names… i found several that came highly recommended and highly overpriced. but then ignoring all that, as if it was calling to me, i decided to give Reds a call. i sucked up all my fear and walked up the stairs to the salon. i was seated at a station waiting for my stylist, Solenn, who waved at me from across the room. she seemed nice, she had cool hair. win-win. in about 5 mins she came over, i showed her pictures, pointed at a girl in the salon whose hair i liked. she immediately called over the girl and asked me what i liked about it. very serious. and after a bit of that, she basically told me to shut up and let her figure out what she was gonna do. in a very nice, french sort of way :) then i went over and got my hair washed by a lovely assistant where we shared stories of trying to be unique individuals. hehe. then Solenn worked her magic as i sipped my tea. we chatted a small bit, but mostly she was just really focused on getting my hair right. once she was done, i was so truly happy i felt like a new person! it’s been about a month now and i still love the cut. oh, i forgot the best part — the haircut was going to be 90euro, but with a student discount, it came to just 65. i know that’s a lot for some people, but from what i’ve seen, you really get what you pay for. i’m in love and i’m totally going back.
