This respected Irish NGO was founded in 2002 and now supports thousands of children in primary schools every day in Nairobi, Calcutta, Delhi and Mombasa. Suas recognises the importance of education for development. Improved literacy and numeracy skills can directly improve people’s lives and open the door for new opportunities. Suas aims to help children from underprivileged societies by providing them with education they would otherwise be deprived of. Suas Educational Development supports educational NGOs in India and Kenya and runs different projects for young people in Ireland. Two of my former classmates spent a summer in India as part of the Suas Volunteer Programme and have only good thing to tell from their experience. If interested, log onto their website and see how you can get involved.
