The burger was very small and it didn’t taste as good as it should have been. My family said their food tasted horrible too.

I work close by so have popped in a few times for coffee, and more recently a couple of breakfasts, staff are very nice but don’t suffer from efficiency, with a group of 10 being left waiting 30 minutes for food one morning, then a number of incorrect orders and one poor girl who had to ask twice for her meal which finally arrived long after the rest of us had finished. Saying that they are very pleasant and the food is good, I usually go for poached eggs with mushrooms and toast, lots of mixed mushrooms fried perfectly and a correctly poached egg, a surprising rarity in the city!

At € 29.50, the pre-concert menu offers sumptuous offerings to be savoured. For mains I enjoyed Seared Salmon, with Herbed New Potatoes, Fine French Beans and Forest Mushroom Ragout. A refined concoction that doesn’t compromise any flavour for grandiosity. I have eaten at restaurants in theatres before where the quality has not lived up to the embellished wording on the menu, overstated to be consistent with the ostentatious setting of the theatre and brazen shows. At the Terrace Café however, quality of food comes first, above and beyond any underhanded approach to charge extortionate prices for food — the exorbitant price crazily justified because it is part of the overall context of the experience — being inside the imposing setting of the National Concert Hall it’s almost like people do not mind being ripped off, either that or they have come to expect it and hence show little revolt. What’s the point, every where’s the same. Yet the Terrace Café is earnestly different in that it truly focuses on fineness. For dessert I enjoyed Profiteroles filled with Chantilly Cream and Warm Chocolate Sauce, the Chantilly cream I’m happy to report boasting an abounding taste of vanilla. Overall my experience of eating within this charming establishment was very pleasurable indeed and made me enjoy the show I had come to see even more. NB/The Terrace Café is open whenever a main Auditorium Concert occurs so bookings are strongly recommended well in advance for large parties.
