BUZZBUZZ!

How can this place not get five stars! Drag queen shows with with synchronised dancing and high levels of fabulousness on a Wednesday night?! Very me. The drinks here are mainly the standard stuff you get anywhere else but who is going to take time to critique the bar selection when there are fierce performances from Dublins queens on the stage. Don’t be fooled by the very classic pub front on this place, get inside and party!

I’ve been here about 3 times now and always have a good laugh. Can never get over how busy it is regardless of what day of the week it is! Drinks aren’t too expensive either, € 5 for havana and coke was the special the last time I was there. Came last night for Sunday bingo which is presented by the drag queens after a few singing performances! A great fun and different way to spend you Sunday evening. The prizes are really good too!

A Dublin gay landmark, friendly staff, and a great place to meet and chat with locals.

What can I say about the George that hasnt been said before. Its central, not too expensive and open every evening. I personally always think it looks a bit shabby but maybe thats just me. Its the main gay venue in Dublin and its an institution. I wouldnt say its my favourite bar by any means but it can be fun once in a while.

Great door and bar staff!!! However the Dj karen needs to change her bad attitude. Maybe a little shake up of entertainment(Dj) might make her realise that people are spending their hard earned cash and dont expect her rudeness. Obviously feels that she is more important than the bar itself!!!

Thieves in the coat check. Be very careful not to leave anything valuable. I had my wallet stolen from the coat check boy(had blue or green hair). Not a safe place for tourists.

If you are from the United States… DONOTCHECKYOURCOAT!!! We had a reasonable night. The dance floor was on par with one you might find in a straight club, and the drinks were reasonable. It seems the bartentders have a hard time actually serving the customers. But when they do they do serve good drinks. My partner had his wallet stolen from his coat that he checked… the guy working coat check gave him his coat without his wallet. He had green hair but we didnt get his name. we went back to retrieve the wallet and the guy said that ‘we dont have your wallet’ It was only until that I threatened to involve the United States embassy that he magically found the wallet and returned it to him… What a crock of shit… Obviously we will not be reccommending this place to our friends and I hope that they find it in their ways to change their treatment of non-Irish citizens.

The best gay bar I have ever been to, hands down. What a wonderful space, energy, staff, drinks, and boys. I had an absolute blast while visiting from the States. The George is a class act — wonderful staff, and Adam, the manager, made my weekend. I will definitely be back when I am in Dublin, and thank you so much for making this holiday one I will not forget. Did I mention the guys are gorgeous? Thanks Dublin, and thank you the George, Cheers!

what can i say? — it smells, –its in a terrible state or repair and decoration, –their smoking garden is a back car park, and the show! i went to see the show, but its impossible to see it unless u hold your place for an hour before it starts, however the atmosphere was fun and the crowd lively. and the show sounded good, hopefully the new owners will redesign the stage and viewing areas so at least half the people can see the show.

This place has the best music playing in Dublin! Cost 10 euros pp to get in. But it’s fun so decide for yourself if it’s worth it. I am having a blast.

I’ve been to The George several nights during my partner and my stay in Dublin. It was a down-to-earth pub in my opinion. I didn’t go to the dance side. Just the bar side which is very cozy and had the warm welcome whenever my partner and I get in. The bartenders were excellent at communicating with us since we both are deaf. I often ordered a pint of Guinness and a Jameson whisky on rock.(It’s a great combination between them both, by the way!) my partner ordered Tia Maria on rock sometimes but he found himself prefer drinking the cooler(alcopops, which is what the bartender called it). We hadn’t had any bad experience in the pub. If we ever got back in Dublin, we would stop by The George in a heartbeat. I still don’t know what was their schedule since every time we got there, it was already open :) the customers in there was also friendly. :D

Well my American a$$, was rejected because of my pants. Security was very polite about it, but despite pleading my 1000mi one night visit case I was denied. So much for gay bars being«accepting». Did return with change of pants and bouncer remembered and was nice. No re entry after 2am :/ The whole 30min there was meh unless you’re into super stereotypical packed gay bars

I went from the Front Lounge to here last night. A familiar haunt for me from my youth, I do really like the place. Although it is quite seedy, if you want to experience the typical gay night out in Dublin you MUSTGOHERE! You’re sure not to have a bad night here but make sure to be prepared for tackiness.

If you want to ‘go out on the gay’ this is the alpha and omega of the stereotypical ‘gay scene’. Full to the brim with Drag Queens, cheesy bubble gum pop, that oddly balanced friendly/bitchy atmosphere and kitsch decorations and statues which most people expect when they think Gay. I have had a few very amusing nights in this place; even if it’s a bit out of my comfort zone, I’ve always found myself laughing in the George, starting in a judgmental, snooty way and by the end I’m slapping myself for it and laughing with rather than at it all. The recent addition of budget friendly pitchers and pints of Tuborg/Bavaria brought this place up to 4 stars for me, their other pricing can be rather steep.

Nursing my hangover as I type this review. Going to gay bingo on a Sunday night was an experience, a good one(as far as I could recall). It didn’t help that pints were € 3.50 which went down easily while bopping to drag show acts to catch pop tunes. The crowd was very friendly and up for a good time — a good 1⁄3 were women with their gay associates in tow. The party was just getting started as I left at 11.30 pm to catch the last bus home. I would need to plan in advance, write off a Monday and visit again!

Really interesting bar to walk into for a quick drink(Smithwicks!) and chat. It’s a gay bar with an overly decorated bar area, ‘Thriller’ music videos running on their TV’s, and the crowd is always cool to people-watch.

This Dublin gay scene institution has been going strong for longer than I can remember. Camp as knickers, gay as Christmas. Some call it the gay Copper Face Jacks. Some say Copper Face Jacks is the George for«breeders». For the most part I have an incredible amount of fun any time I come here. Awesome tunes, lots of dancing. It is a cattle market if you let your beef enter the market. It is what you make of it! If all you want to do is score, then you will score. If all you want to do is dance, then you will dance. If all you want to do is have fun with your friends, then you will have fun with your friends! (The last one is usually what I aim for) Just like Annie L said in her recent review, the bar staff and staff in general are incredibly friendly. The drag shows are great craic(Wednesday’s Space N Veda in particular)… The problem I have is with the security on the main door. These guys have attitudes and egos bigger than any drag queen with maximum friend capacity on their Facebook profile. This has gotten significantly worse over the past year. I have been coming here since I was a teenager and the bouncers attitude has changed from, «NO not tonight» to «please come in», over the years and a few years ago I thought all that nonsense of not letting people in for NO valid reason was of days gone by. Sadly this attitude has come back FULLFORCE and has pretty much ruined mine, and my friends nights out on numerous occasions over the past year. My birthday, celebrating my drag debut, other friends birthdays… All of these celebrations have been ruined in some way because of bouncers on the door of the George. I am not 18 years of age. I am 32 and most of my friends are around the same age. We don’t get gee-eyed and fall to the next club looking for alcopops and shots of tequila. Each of these nights I have been grilled on the door for no reason and actually feel like I need to camp it up to make it easier for me to get in. Any straight people with me have huge problems, in particular the guys. This is BULLSH1T in this day and age. I understand for safety reasons in the early 90’s why they would not let big straight guys in but in 2012 I think my straight mates should be able to come and celebrate my birthday with me wherever I choose to celebrate it. The straight guys are not the only casualty of this, sooo many of my gay mates have been refused from the door for no reason at all. Just because the bouncers on the door don’t like the look of them. Now, there are some of the security staff who are LOVELY and I have no problem with these guys, it is unfortunate that the couple of ego’s that are there ruin the reputation for the rest of them and appear to get some kick out of ruining peoples nights out. I am so sick of this situation that all I can muster for this review is a 1 out of 5. Sort it out George management, sort it out!

I don’t even know why I’m bothering writing this review, it’s a story that get’s repeated again and again in Dublin but anyhow maybe it will be good to get it off my chest. I still think that the bar staff in this club are very friendly and pleasant, the door men on the other hand. Nightclubs in Dublin close at 2:30am on a Saturday. We turned up at 2:15am. Yeah late but technically we should still be legally allowed in to have a drink etc. The door man obviously is angry with the world that no one has discovered him yet for the role of Total Recall 3. So yes I can hear the critics already saying, «Ah come on Annie, that’s a bit trivial!» Usually I would agree with you if that policy was enforced to everyone that came to the door but it wasn’t. He let his mates in. As we left I said to my friend, let’s just wait here for fifteen minutes so that I can count all the people he lets in, it was a joke and he let people in after 2:30am too. I really hate that crap of it’s about who you know, that’s what brought this country to it’s knees. A law is a law. Rant over.

My favorite gay bar in Dublin! I love this place. I would go with my friends here just for a change of scenery from the straight clubs. Though I am straight, The George never ceased to amuse me. Costantly crowded, good drinks, and good music mixes. I met a couple of dear friends of mine from here too. This place is great for hen parties and stag parties. The crowd is mixed. You have anyone from college age up to their mid 30s coming here. All the people who go here are pretty attractive too. The men especially. It’s a shame they don’t swing my way. haha Still though, The George will always have a special place in my heart. I love it. They have a smoking patio in the back which I really appreciate because the rest of it is smoke free. Enjoy!

5Sterne TOP!!! :-)
