Really nice pub! Have only been for some food, but the atmosphere, even on a dreary Monday evening was lively! The staff were really pleasant, and I loved the presentation of the food. Simple, but it worked. We got the bucket of wings and chips to share, was more than enough for two. Very affordable, and they do a good lunch menu too!

As far as the GBB pubs go, this is probably the least conspicuous of the lot. It’s pretty much the same old pub it was before, just with different beers and a few things familiar to the eye of the GBB fan. We had a grand quiet pint here of a Wednesday night. They’re easy going with the closing time, which is sound. Other than that it’s just any old grand pub! If I were in Rathgar more often I’m sure it would be a sound local to have. The bartenders are nice and there’s a good list of beers on tap. Most notably, of all the GBB pubs, they’ve held onto the most macro-brewery beers; Heineken, Budvar, Guinness etc. Handy when there aren’t too many spots in the area for a drink and you have to cater for just about everyone. It looked like there was a nice food menu to be had, particularly a good value lunch menu, but we didn’t get a chance to try that this time around.

The newest bar in the Galway Brewing chain is perfectly at home in Rathgar. A great selection of beers and a nice range of whiskies to choose from. Still nothing more exciting in the rum department than Captain Morgan’s, but then that’s pretty much everywhere in Dublin with a few notable exceptions. I grabbed a bite to eat and watched a football match with a few friends; it’s a nice spot for both, the food is decent gastropub fare and there’s a projector that is turned on for the game. There’s also mirrors behind the bar that transform into TV screens. Nice.
